I have never cared about graphics that much, since I watch movies only on my tv and I play games only on consoles, but I want to get a 4k monitor because my monitor is getting old and 4k is useful for close up viewing. Any ideas on how I pick one, when I do NOT care about gaming? I want one that is good for video, without paying crazy to get one meant for gaming. I wouldn't buy one at all, but I am just assuming my card I have now won't support that high of resolution.

Is it true that your motherboard has to have pcie 3.0 toe even use the good cards such as gtx970? And how would I even find out if mine supports it? I also see someone selling a lenovo refurbished desktop for only $200. If I knew the motherboard would support it, I'd just get that, the card, and the monitor and all total be out under $1k.

Gamer or not, good video is driven by games. Get a NVidia 980 and you can do 4k even if your monitor doesn't support it.
