Sure.
Visit beautiful downtown Compton, then take the scenic tour of East L.A., then drive to W.Hollywood and finish it up in Garden Grove.

Wool Growers! The best!
@Mustang Not legal without the card, yet. In Oregon or Washington, just go to the dispensary or store. Some even have $5 Friday specials. Lol
@Bee You shoulda started him out in Garden Grove, he could get some Dim-sum, gotta keep your strength up for the long slow freeway drive. Gardena is scarier than Compton, East LA is fine, but send him to Silverlake to slip into Hollywood, so he can feel the love by the time he gets to West Hollywood. You want it to be a memorable trip.
If you really want to change his reality, send him up to Stockton and old Sac, almost as fun as the East Bay.

If you are in San Francisco, the Castro District is the best party scene.

Truth be told. You'd be well advised to avoid those places. Except Hollywood and Sunset Blvd in W Hwd.
Get a copy of LA Weekly, the free paper at any liquor store, head shop or newsstand. It will list all the bands playing and clubs.
W Hwd is the gay area. Lots of bars and clubs, but mostly on Santa Monica Blvd., Sunset Blvd is where all the rock shows are, Hollywood Blvd is where the stars are in the sidewalk, the Chinese Theater and Jimmy Kimmel show.
The other areas are gang infested rough areas. Not a place to hang out.
Venice Beach will give you "Baywatch" and Santa Monica has a pier and lots of restaurants. Redondo is cool and so is Manhattan Beach. Malibu is alright if you like opulence and excess.
Ventura Blvd in The Valley has some decent clubs and tons of great restaurants. Universal City Walk is also kinda cool, but the tour is lame
That's just LA.
To the East, you get deserts, Joshua trees and scorching heat.
South to OC and further to San Diego has great beaches and beautiful coastlines.
The north route up 101 gets Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, San Francisco Bay Area and the Goldengate Bridge. Awesome vistas and cool stuff to do.
Going north from LA, you get the valley full of fruit and nuts, with the Sierra Nevadas and Yosemite.
That's only the bottom half of the state.

I moved here from the east coast. I raised my son here in Eugene Oregon. I've never regretted it and neither has he.
I love Oregon.
