 | Only thing I watch, really, is gymnastics, which I think is going on right now, but won't be on tv until tonight.
And of the girls on the team, really I only like Madison and I guess Aly. I mean I want them to all do well, but I'd say Madison is the only one close to what I would calla favorite. My real favorite this time is Mykayla Skinner, and they idiotically put Gabby on the team and only made Mykayla an alternate. Mykayla is hot and did much better than Gabby this year.

  Thanks.
It is always so exciting watching the Olympics. I feel a super rush of pride in the US and world athletes who gather together in these ultimate challenges of physical and mental training.

I suppose my first love in the Summer Games is gymnastics. Awesome strength, control, and power!

I watched the Olympics in the early years but I was entranced, as the world was, by Nadia Komenich (sp). What an athlete!

I was again blessed during the Atlanta Olympics when I, for a brief speck of time, held that torch in my hands before the lighting of the Olympic Flame.

God bless all the athletes, and their families and friends, who are in Rio to support such great, young ability. Stay safe and stay healthy.

The current medal standings (in the top 10) have three countries tied with 7 medals, each.

 Italy 2 gold -- 3 silver -- 2 bronze

 China -- 2 gold -- 2 silver -- 3 bronze

 US -- 1 gold -- 5 silver -- 1 bronze

 | The Atlanta Olympics is the first ones I watched really a lot of. I watched some gymnastics in the 1992 ones I think, but started watching it all from 1996 until present.
What sucks is my favorite gymnasts usually miss out on making the team due to injuries right around time of selection. Such as Hollie Vise and Shayla Worley.

The American lady swimmers are doing an awesome job.

Did anyone watch America take the good in shooting? The medalist looks a lot like Chelsea Clinton.

China and the United States have now pulled into a tie with total medals won:8 each.

 | Of course you do.

  Good morning, everyone.
I will begin my update with my best wishes for complete and speedy recovery for Samir Air Said.

 Sadness for an Olympic hopeful.

During qualifying rounds in men's gymnastic vault division, Said, age 26, from France made a bad landing and seriously broke his left leg. To add insult to injury, as Said was being removed from the venue the Rio paramedics dropped the gurney Said was strapped to.

The injury appears to be a compound fracture of the left femur. At last report Said was in hospital undergoing orthopaedic surgery.

God speed to this young man.

  WOW!
The United States stands at the top of the medals podium above all others at this time.

 The US has accumulated:

 3 gold -- 5 silver -- 4 bronze for a total medal count of: 12.

The closest competitor is China with an accumulated 8 medals.

How about that men's relay swimming? oolala --- US men went for that gold! Beautiful guys!

 | You can't touch this [5x]
My, my, my, my music hits me so hard
Makes me say, "Oh my Lord,
 Thank you for blessing me
With a mind to rhyme and two hype feet."
It feels good, when you know you're down
A super dope homeboy from the Oaktown
 And I'm known as such
And this is a beat, uh, you can't touch

I told you homeboy (You can't touch this)
Yeah, that's how we living and you know (You can't touch this)
Look at my eyes, man (You can't touch this)
Yo, let me bust the funky lyrics (You can't touch this)

 Fresh new kicks, and pants
You gotta like that, now you know you wanna dance
 So move, outta your seat
And get a fly girl and catch this beat
 While it's rolling, hold on
Pump a little bit and let 'em know it's going on
 Like that, like that
Cold on a mission so fall them back
Let 'em know, that you're too much
And this is a beat, uh, they can't touch

Yo, I told you (You can't touch this)
Why you standing there, man? (You can't touch this)
Yo, sound the bell, school is in, sucker (You can't touch this)

Give me a song, or rhythm
Make 'em sweat, that's what I'm giving 'em now,
 They know
You talking about the Hammer you talking about a show
 That's hyped, and tight
Singers are sweating so pass them a wipe
 Or a tape, to learn
What's it gonna take in the 90's to burn
 The charts? Legit
Either work hard or you might as well quit

 That's word because you know...

 You can't touch this [3x]

 Break it down!

 Stop, Hammer time!

Go with the flow, it is said
If you can't groove to this then you probably are dead
So wave your hands in the air
Bust a few moves, run your fingers through your hair
This is it, for a winner
Dance to this and you're gonna get thinner
 Move, slide your rump
Just for a minute let's all do the bump, bump, bump, bump

 Yeah... (You can't touch this)
Look, man (You can't touch this)
You better get hype, boy, because you know you can't (You can't touch this)
Ring the bell, school's back in

 Break it down!

 Stop, Hammer time!

 You can't touch this [4x]

 Break it down!

 Stop, Hammer time!

 Every time you see me
 The Hammer's just so hype
I'm dope on the floor and I'm magic on the mic
Now why would I ever stop doing this?
With others making records that just don't hit
I've toured around the world, from London to the Bay
It's "Hammer, go Hammer, MC Hammer, yo Hammer"
And the rest can go and play

 You can't touch this [8x]

I tried to get a total number of each medal to be awarded in each sport but couldn't locate an answer.

Right now the US Team has won twice as many medals as their nearest competitors: Great Britain & China.

I went back and answered my own question:

Singapore pays it's athletes the most money for their medal wins.

 | United Snakes of America..that swimmer lied about being robbed!
Jinxie, You are correct and it will hurt his money making endorsements big time that he had already signed, not to mention the embarrassment it has caused the USA. You just don't do that when you are representing your country if you have any class at all. So sad!

 | I have to admit that two of the best Ladies golfers in the world won the gold and silver medal. Stacy Lewis from the USA just missed a bronze medal.
Congrats Inbee Park (South Korea) who won the gold medal. My youngest daughter and I met her at the ANA Inspiration tournament this year (formerly the Nabisco Dinah Shore Tournament and a LPGA Major Tournament). She is a nice young woman and very shy.

Inbee Park (New Zealand) is a more recent star on the LPGA Tour and is breaking the South Korean lock on being the best women's players in the world.

Congrats to Shanshan Feng for locking up the bronze medal on the last hole. I don't know much about her, but the world will get to know her better based on her performance this week.

Stacy Lewis from the USA had severe spinal abnormalities that were overcome by surgery and hard work by her. She is an inspiration to many young women, and let's face it we all have obstacles to overcome, and Stacy is one brave determined woman.

We thank all the women who bravely went to RIO knowing the conditions were adverse and risky to represent their country and women's golf. I do think there will be a boost in the sport in many countries due to the Olympics.

Jinxie, You are correct and it will hurt his money making endorsements big time that he had already signed, not to mention the embarrassment it has caused the USA. You just don't do that when you are representing your country if you have any class at all. So sad!

 Exactly

 | He was young -- 30ish -- out partying with the guys -- drunk -- acted a fool in hot hot hot Rio de Janeiro.
Are we all so old and decrepit that we've forgotten the silly stuff we've done when we were young and full of piss and vinegar?

Give the guy a break! sheesh
