Keep a pic-mosquito coil burning both sides of my door when camping or both sides of me on the boat shrimping, I hate the sprays on my skin!

They just trapped three mosquitos in Miami Beach that have the Zika virus.
Scary stuff.

I think the bats are the best bet. I dont think they kill the bees. I remember them in the trees as a kid. Never bothered us.

I had a few get in the house. I wish I could find that thing on the trap made from a 2 liter bottle that traps them. I dont want to spray the whold house.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3InZjTgEkg It's debatable if this really works. Some people claim it does,,,some say it doesn't. All I see in the video are flies. The theory is that mosquitos are attracted to Carbon Dioxide. Mixing sugar and yeast starts a fermentation process which produces Carbon Dioxide and the mosquitos are drawn into the bottle and cannot escape.
All you will do is attract more mosquitos. It's not going to get rid of them. You kill 100 of them,,,100 more will take their place. There are zillions of them out there. People are in a panic about zika. We have never tested for zika before this year so we do not know if it is anything new,,,and considering that the disease has been around since the 40's,,,it's likely that it has been around in Florida for years.
There is no smoking gun to prove that the elevated cases of Hydrocephaly in babies in South America is absolutely caused by zika. The fact is, zika has been prevalent in South America for decades and the increase in Hydrocephaly in babies is recent. Why the sudden increase? No one knows. It's only an assumption that zika is responsible.
My thoughts are that there are a zillion other things in our environment that could be causing it.
Still,,,If I were a woman wanting to get pregnant I'd be concerned about mosquitos,,,but otherwise the disease rarely causes any real issues in healthy people and there are too many other things to worry about.

Thanks Peek . I just want to put it in the kitchen when a few get in sometime. I got real sick once and they thought for a while i had the N1 virus. I think it is strange that I have to give my dog a pill a month to keep the heartworms away but Zika doent get them and we dont get heartworms.

We don't know if animals get Zika because we don't test for it in animals,,,and good news,,,,humans can get heartworms. So do cats by the way.

I almost said that on the heartworms, thought I had heard of one or two. They give Ivermectin to some native tribes in Africa, but that is for another worm that gets in them!

I remember my dad taking us to some fishing places where we had to wear nets on our faces and long sleaves because of the yellow jackets he called them . man they did hurt. Worst was getting something from the train bridge we swam too close to. He had to take us to a doctor. He told us to say away from it.

Sounds more like deer flies than yellow jackets that you would were that gear for and wasps that hang out under bridges
If yellow jackets are after you nothing will help, unless maybe they were after the fish, was a hot winter in Alaska and we had bumper crop of them at the fish cleaning tables this year, but they only bite there if you accidentally squish one while cleaning a fish they are nibbling on.

cup I wish you could tell my neighbors that. they have a tarp outside on the ground and it fills with water. Called the city several times.
The yellow things about killed us but the fish were biting too. They looked like flys but had yellow on them . 10 x worse than a misquito.
