There are a lot of hotels in the area with the close proximity to the airport and Doral. Hotels will probably have a shuttle that can take you to the campus. Also, call the university, I am sure that they will have info to help you out. You should also check with your Granddaughter, relatives often get preferential treatment ie: tickets, parking, accommodations.

I'm sure you will be traveling down for the next few years, so go ahead and purchase a portable sunpass, I think they're 20 bucks, the toll you will save will make up for the cost, not to mention the aggravation and traffic that you will bypass. If you are coming from Jax, you will only take it from 595 to to your hotel or the campus, so it wont be that much. Also, if you are driving around Miami metro, you will be taking additional toll roads, if you are in south florida you gotta have a sunpass. As far as rental cars, join aarp, its only $16/yr and they have great discounts on rental cars (and other things too). They will also deliver to your home, or come and pick you up.
