Lieutenant Steve Brooks, Public Information Officer
In August, 2016 during a routine overflight operation, NTF Detectives located a large scale marijuana cultivation operation occurring on a property in the 22000 block of Morgan Valley Rd. in Lower Lake. On October 11th, 2016 NTF Detectives secured a search warrant for the structures and property located at that site and conducted the service of that warrant on October 12th. Upon entry to the property, two Hispanic male adults identified as Juan Alvarez (29) and Apolinar Contreras (33), both out of Lower Lake were observed fleeing the property on foot. Both subjects ignored any order to stop by Deputies and were eventually both apprehended after an approximate ¼ mile foot chase into the surrounding canyons. A third Hispanic male adult was detained at the initial scene identified as Jorge Padilla (61) out of Bodega Bay.
The property contained two separate outdoor marijuana cultivation sites, which had been mostly harvested at the time of the warrant service. The property originally contained approximately 130 marijuana plants outdoors. A large approximate 60’x40’ commercial metal building was located that was completely full of processed marijuana. An additional 10, approximate one pound bags of processed marijuana were also located at the scene. The total amount of bulk processed marijuana was over 1000 pounds. While on scene, later in the day, a fourth Hispanic male involved in the operation identified as Eduardo Carrillo (46) out of Santa Rosa arrived and was also placed under arrest.
Padilla and Carrillo were placed under arrest for felony violations of 11358 HS-Cultivation of marijuana and 11359 HS- Possession of marijuana for sale. Alvarez and Contreras were placed under arrest for felony violations of 11358 HS-Cultivation of marijuana and 11359 HS- Possession of marijuana for sale in addition to 148(a)1 PC- Resist/ Obstruct a Peace Officer for their actions of fleeing the scene. The subjects were transported to the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility and booked on the aforementioned charges.
