Etymology. "Christmas" is a shortened form of "Christ's mass". It is derived from the Middle English Cristemasse, which is from Old English Cristesmæsse, a phrase first recorded in 1038 followed by the word Cristes-messe in 1131. Merry Christmas folks.

Every Mass is a Christmas, because in the Mass, Jesus comes to earth again.

"The Mass is a continuation of the Incarnation."

Voris is wrong Lud, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the Sacrifice of Calvary translated through space and time to the Catholic Altar, it is a Sacrifice, not an incarnation. Death on Calvary and birth in Bethlehem are opposites, one is his coming, the other is his leaving after accomplishing what he came to do. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass pertains to his death on the Cross, not his birth in Bethlehem.

Luke 1:30-35: The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, His kingdom will never end." "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?" The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God!"

Luke 2:5-14:Joseph went to Bethlehem to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them at the inn. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you **GOOD NEWS OF GREAT JOY** that will be for **ALL PEOPLE**! **TODAY** in the town of David **A SAVIOR HAS BEEN BORN TO YOU**, He is Christ the Lord!! This will be a sign to you. You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, "**GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST AND ON EARTH PEACE TO MEN ON WHOM HIS FAVOR RESTS**!"

And so it certainly is okay for God's saints to celebrate the birth of their Savior. But to call this day **CHRIST **MAS** is certainly wrong since the Roman Catholic mass or mess is certainly not of God. Celebrating the birth of Jesus on December 25th is also wrong since the pagan Feast of Yul is from midnight, December 24th to Midnight December 31st, where there is a drunken orgy and pagan feast in the week before the beginning of the pagan new year; and December 25th is the first day of this pagan orgy. The pagan Roman Catholic Church picked this day in an attempt to combine pagan Roman celebrations with Christian celebrations

The birth of Jesus was most likely on December 2nd but it is certainly okay to celebrate the birthday of our Savior on any and every day of the year.

The Mass is indeed a sacrifice, the sacrifice of Calvary re-enacted. But that doesn't mean it isn't also a continuation of the Incarnation. It can be, and is, both. Every Mass is a Christmas---in the Mass, Jesus is called down from Heaven on to the altar, at Bethlehem He came forth as a little Baby.

Lud, Christ is bilocated, not from his cradle, and not from Heaven, but from Calvary to the Catholic altar. Various Catholic saints (and Christ himself) biolocated. Bilocation is where you are in more than one place and/or time at once.

Voris is a typical modernist. Modernists, among other things, viewing the birth of Christ as more positive than his death, try to make the Mass, at least in part, about the birth of Christ. But we do not include the celebration of the birth of Christ in the Mass except during Christmas.

The feast days of the saints, as you know, are generally celebrated on the date of their death, rather than the date of their birth. Modernists would probably want to reverse that.

And Pathetic, I understand what you are saying, you are saying that when Christ said “Do this in memory of me”, he was saying something that “was not of God”. And when priests obey his command, they are doing something that "is not of God".

**SHOULD CHRISTIANS CELEBRATE THE BIRTHDAY OF JESUS ON DECEMBER 25TH AND SHOULD THIS DAY BE CALLED CHRISTMAS**??

NOTE: If you rearrange the letters in S-A-T-A-N it spells S-A-N-T-A!!

The birth of Jesus was most likely on December 2nd but it is certainly okay to celebrate the birthday of our Savior on any and every day of the year.

Why do many Christian chronologists believe that Jesus was born on December 2nd??

We know that Jesus began His ministry after spending 40 days in the wilderness and in Luke 3:23 we read: Now Jesus Himself was as 30 years old when He began His ministry. According to OT law you had to wait to your 30th birthday to begin your ministry.{See I Chron 23:3,4}

We also know that Jesus was crucified on April 3rd, AD 33 and rose from the dead on April 5th, AD 33. We also know that the anointing and baptism of the Anointed One took place 1260 days before Jesus put an end to all sacrifices in the middle of the last 7 as per Daniel 9:27a.

1260 days before April 5th, AD 33 was on October 23rd, AD 29, and 40 days after October 23rd, AD 29 would have been on **DECEMBER 2ND** AD 29 when Jesus began His ministry on His 30th earthly birthday after spending 40 days in the wilderness.

Luke 2:10,11: The angel said, "I bring you good news of **GREAT JOY** that will be for **ALL PEOPLE**. **TODAY** in the town of David **A SAVIOR HAS BEEN BORN TO YOU; HE IS CHRIST THE LORD**!!"

Louie, why don't priests obey this command?: "Call no man your father upon the earth: "for one is your Father, which is in heaven." (Matthew 23:9)

Why don't YOU obey it?

And this command?: "But ... when thou prayest, ...pray to thy Father." Mat 6:6

Instead, you pray to Mary and other dead people. Jesus says to pray to the Father when you pray. Why don't you obey Him?

What is your answer to Jesus here? "Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" (Luke 6:46)

Answer Jesus, Louie. Tell Him why you call Him "Lord" but don't do the things that He says. Go ahead.

Jesus says: "If ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: (Mat 6:14)

But your stablemate ludlow says:
"God does NOT forgive everyone who forgives others. God forgives repentant sinners only. All others He punished very severely."

Do you agree with Jesus or do you agree with Ludlow?

You need to view some of Voris' videos. He is about as far from modernism as one can get. Every Mass IS like Christmas, because in every Mass Jesus comes down from Heaven to the altar, and at the first Christmas (technically, at the Annuniciation nine months prior, if you want to split hairs) Jesus came down from Heaven. In no way does this contradict the sound Catholic doctrine that the Mass is the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins, i.e. the sacrifice of tge cross re-enacted, but done in an unbloody manner. It's not either-or, Louie.

Christmas or Christmas Day (Old English: Cristesmæsse, meaning "Christ's Mass") is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ,[7][8] observed most commonly on December 25[4][9][10] as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world.[2][11][12] A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it is prepared for by the season of Advent or the Nativity Fast and initiates the season of Christmastide, which historically in the West lasts twelve days and culminates on Twelfth Night;[13] in some traditions, Christmastide includes an Octave.[14]

Other names
In addition to "Christmas", the holiday has been known by various other names throughout its history. The Anglo-Saxons referred to the feast as "midwinter",[50][51] or, more rarely, as Natiuiteð (from Latin nativitas below).[50][52] "Nativity", meaning "birth", is from Latin nativitas.[53] In Old English, Geola (Yule) referred to the period corresponding to December and January, which was eventually equated with Christian Christmas.[54] "Noel" (or "Nowel") entered English in the late 14th century and is from the Old French noël or naël, itself ultimately from the Latin natalis (dies), "birth (day)".[55]

History

Nativity of Christ – medieval illustration from the Hortus deliciarum of Herrad of Landsberg (12th century)
The earliest known Christian festivals were attempts to celebrate Jewish holidays, especially Passover, according to the local calendar. Modern scholars refer to such holidays as "Quartodecmials" because Passover is dated as 14 Nisan on the Jewish calendar. All the major events of the life of Jesus were celebrated in this festival, including his conception, birth, and passion. In the Greek-speaking areas of the Roman Empire, the Macedonian calendar was used. In these areas, the Quartodecimal was celebrated on April 6. In Latin-speaking areas, the Quartodecimal was March 25. The significance of the Quartodecimal declined after 165, when Pope Soter moved celebration of the Resurrection to a Sunday, thereby creating Easter. This put celebration of the passion on Good Friday, and thus moved it away from the Quartodecimal.[57]

The Christian ecclesiastical calendar contains many remnants of pre-Christian festivals. Although the dating as December 25 predates pagan influence, the later development of Christmas as a festival includes elements of the Roman feast of the Saturnalia and the birthday of Mithra as described in the Roman cult of Mithraism.[58]

Choice of December 25 date
In the 3rd century, the date of birth of Jesus was the subject of both great interest and great uncertainly. Around AD 200, Clement of Alexandria wrote:

“ There are those who have determined not only the year of our Lord's birth, but also the day; and they say that it took place in the 28th year of Augustus, and in the 25th day of [the Egyptian month] Pachon [May 20] … And treating of His Passion, with very great accuracy, some say that it took place in the 16th year of Tiberius, on the 25th of Phamenoth [March 21]; and others on the 25th of Pharmuthi [April 21] and others say that on the 19th of Pharmuthi [April 15] the Savior suffered. Further, others say that He was born on the 24th or 25th of Pharmuthi [April 20 or 21].[59] ”
In other writing of this time, May 20, April 18 or 19, March 25, January 2, November 17, and November 20 are all suggested.[8][60] Various factors contributed to the selection of December 25 as a date of celebration: it was the date of the winter solstice on the Roman calendar; it was about nine months after March 25, the date of the vernal equinox and a date linked to the conception of Jesus; and it was the date of a Roman pagan festival in honor of the Sun god Sol Invictus.

What ever and how ever, I know why and how, I celebrate Christmas. Christmas Eve I will do my dinner and celebrate the secular elements I enjoy, and Christmas day I shall be celebrating the birth of my Lord in my way.

And I hope every one has a Merry Christmas, and for those that this up sets? Your welcome, I am giving you something to complain about. Just as you enjoy it! Your welcome !

So, Happy Holiday, Happy complaining and a very Merry Christmas to all!

I have a love, hate relationship with Winter. I love it hot, I worked most of my life in steam power plants so have a high tolerance for extreme heat.

But the beauty of winter , just astounds me. I lived up north for a lot of years, and waking up to the sight of fresh fallen snow never ceased to amaze me. And very cold nights with the Northern Lights , long drives under them? Just plain beautiful. I even find beauty in blizzards.

Mind you, come mid Feb. , I need a nice warm vacation and a beach some where by then!

Have a good one your self FJO.

**INTERESTING **70 YEAR** TIME PERIODS IN BIBLE PROPHECY**!!

It is interesting to note that the Kings of Israel ruled 490 or **70 YEARS** times 7 years, which was immediately followed by a **70 YEAR** exile of the Jews, which was then immediately followed by the amazing prophesy of the **70 YEARS** times 7 years which will end with the 2nd coming of Jesus and Everlasting Righteousness and the eternal 7th-Day Rest for the people of God.

Matthew 18::21,22: Peter asked Jesus, How many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me?" Jesus answered, "I tell you, not 7 times, but **70** times 7 {Or 490} times!" {See NIV footnote}

Jesus is called the Son of David 17 times and David lived exactly **70 YEARS** as per 2 Samuel 5:4.

Acts 1:6,7: The disciples asked Jesus, "Lord, are you at this time are you going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" Jesus said , "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by His own authority."

This prophecy was fulfilled and The kingdom was restored to Israel at midnight on May 14th, AD 1948. It is interesting to note that **70 YEARS** after midnight, May 14th, 1948 will be at midnight, May 14th, 2018!!???

By a very interesting coincidence this prophesy and the rising of Jesus to heaven took place exactly 40 days after the Resurrection of Jesus when our Savior put an end to all sacrifices for sin in the middle of the last 7 of the **70 YEARS** times 7 !! The Resurrection of Jesus took place on April 5th, AD 33 and 40 Bible days after April 5th, AD 33 would be **ASCENSION DAY** and would have been on sundown, May 14th AD 33 to sundown, May 15th, AD 33!! And so midnight, May 14th, AD 1948 is **ASCENSION DAY** and **70 YEARS** later at midnight, May 14th, 2018 would also take place on **ASCENSION DAY**!!.

Acts 1:1-3; 6-11: I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the **DAY** He was taken up to heaven... After His suffering, He showed Himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over a period of **FORTY DAYS** and spoke about the kingdom of God...So when they met together, they asked Him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" Jesus said to them, "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by His own authority {On May 14th, 1948}... After He said this, He was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid Him from their sight . They were looking intently up into the sky as He was going, when suddenly **TWO MEN** {Moses & Elijah} dressed in white stood beside them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven!!" {On the Last Day of the **70 YEARS** times 7; when he will bring in **EVERLASTING RIGHTEOUSNESS** and the eternal **7TH DAY REST** for the people of God after **SIX 1,000 YEAR LORD'S DAYS** after the creation of Adam!!}

**INTERESTING SPECULATIVE QUESTION?? Will something interesting happen related to the **70 YEARS** times 7; take place exactly **70 YEARS** after the rebirth of Israel at midnight on May 14th, 2018?? Such as the beginning of the Last half of the **70 YEARS** times 7.{The 1260-day Great Tribulation} or the coming of God's two Israeli witnesses {Moses and Elijah} for their 1260-day testimony??? This, of course, is just a very interesting **SPECULATION**!

Immediately after the Resurrection Day of the saints mentioned in I Thessalonians 4:16,17 we read in I Thessalonians 5:4,5: But **YOU, BROTHERS**, are not in darkness so that **THIS DAY** should surprise you like a thief. You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness!!

Revelation 3:3: Jesus says, "Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But ***IF*** you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you!!"

When the 1260-day Great Tribulation begins or the 1260-day testimony of Moses and Elijah begins 1263 1/2 days before the Last Day; the saints will then know the Last Day when Jesus will come with **EVERLASTING RIGHTEOUSNESS** and our eternal **7TH-DAY REST ** which begins on the Last Day of the**70 YEARS** times 7 !!

The word Christmas comes from Middle English Cristemasse, which in turn comes from Old English Cristes-messe, literally meaning Christ’s Mass. Of course, we are not talking about the good old physical mass of baryonic matter in Christ’s body (which, by the way, comes from Ancient Greek µ??a (mâza), meaning a lump or dough).

The origin of mass, in the Christian sense of the word, is not entirely clear. We know it comes from Latin missa, but there are several competing theories as to what missa is supposed to mean. Some scholars say it is a form of the Latin verb mittere, in which case it would mean “something that has been sent” (but it cannot refer to Christ himself because “missa” is grammatically feminine).

Others say that it is a late form of Latin missio, meaning “dismissal”. This is supported by the fact that Catholic masses are traditionally concluded with the words

Ite, missa est.
which would mean, “Go, the dismissal is made”, provided this interpretation is correct.

Yet another explanation is that it is in fact the Hebrew word missah, “unleavened bread”, which God commanded to be offered with the Passover Lamb in the Exodus.

The origin of the designation Christ is also not without interest. It comes from Greek ???st?? (Christós), meaning “anointed”, which is a translation of Hebrew ???????? mašîa? (“anointed”) that has been incorporated into the English language as “messiah”. Hence, “Christ” and “Messiah” mean essentially the same, the former originating in Ancient Greek and the latter in Classical Hebrew.

Finally, we get to the word Xmas (usually pronounced the same as Christmas, but some pronounce it, rather incorrectly, as /'?ksm?s/). Many people believe that writing “Xmas” instead of Christmas is an attempt to remove Christ from Christmas and may even consider it blasphemous.

However, “X” in “Xmas” is, in fact, not the English letter “ex”. It is an abbreviation of the Greek name of “Christ”, ???st??, which starts with the Greek letter Chi. Abbreviating “Christ” as “X” can be traced many centuries back, with some written documents dated as early as 1100 AD.

**AMAZING TREASURES IN I JOHN**

I John 1:8-10; 2:1,2: If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His word has no place in our lives. If anybody does sin, we have One who speaks to the Father in our defense--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the **ATONING SACRIFICE FOR OUR SINS**, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

I John 2:3-5: We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His {NT} commands. The man who says, "I know Him," but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone **OBEYS HIS WORD**, God's **LOVE** is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in Him!

I John 2:15-167: Do not **LOVE** the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the **LOVE** of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but **THE MAN WHO DOES THE WILL OF GOD** lives forever!

I John 3:16-18: This is how we know what **LOVE** is: **JESUS CHRIST LAID DOWN HIS LIFE FOR US**. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the **LOVE** of God be in him. Dear children, let us not **LOVE** with words or tongue but with actions and in truth!

I John 4:7-12: Dear friends, let us **LOVE** one another, for **LOVE** comes from God. Everyone who **LOVES** has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not **LOVE** does not know God, because God is **LOVE**. This is how God showed His **LOVE** among us: He sent His Son as an **ATONING SACRIFICE FOR OUR SINS**! Dear friends since God so **LOVED** us, we ought to **LOVE** one another. No one has ever seen God, but if we **LOVE** one another, **GOD LIVES IN US** and His **LOVE** is made complete in us!

**AMAZING TREASURES IN THE BOOK OF JOHN**!!

John 1:1-3: In the begining was the Word, and the Word was with God and **THE WORD WAS GOD**. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.

John 1:12,13: To all who received Him, to all who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God--children born not of natural descent, **NOR OF HUMAN DECISION** or a husband's will, but **BORN OF GOD**!

John 3:3: Jesus say, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the Kingdom of God **UNLESS HE IS BORN AGAIN**"

John 5:28,29: Jesus say, "Do not be amazed at this: for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will His voice and come out--those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned!"

John 6:37,39,44,65: Jesus says, "All that the Father gives Me **WILL COME TO ME**, and whoever comes to Me I will **NEVER** drive away....And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that I shall **LOSE NONE** of all that He has given to Me, but raise them up at the Last Day.... No one can come to Me **UNLESS** the Father who sent Me **DRAWS HIM**, and I will raise him up at the Last Day....No one ccan come to Me **UNLESS** the Father has **ENABLED HIM**!"

John 8:31: Jesus says, "If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples. Then you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free!"

John 8:47: Jesus says, "He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God!"

John 10:11,27-29: Jesus says, "I am the good Shepherd. The good Shepherd lays down His life for His sheep... My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they shall **NEVER** perish, no one can snatch them out of My hand! My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of My Father's hand!!"

John 12:48: There is a Judge for the one who rejects Me, and does not accept My words, that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the Last Day."

John 13:34,35: Jesus says, "A new command I give you. Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples."

John 15:12,13: My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this; that he **LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS**!"

Jon 14:6: Jesus says, "I am the **WAY** and the **TRUTH** and the **LIFE**. No one comes to the Father **EXCEPT THROUGH ME**!"

John 21,23: Jesus says, "Whoever has My commands and **OBEYS THEM**, he is the one who loves Me... If anyone loves Me, he will obey My teaching. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and **MAKE OUR HOME WITH HIM**!"

John 14:26: "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you!"

John 16:12,13: Jesus says, "I have nuch more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when the the Spirit of Truth comes {He will inspire the 27 books of the New Covenant} he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own, he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come!"

John15:5,8,16: Jesus says, "I am the Vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing...This is to My Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be My disciples!... You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last!"

John 17:6,17: Jesus says, "I have revealed You to those whom You gave Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave the to Me and they have obeyed Your word... **SANCTIFY THEM BY THE TRUTH, YOUR WORD IS TRUTH!"

John 17:24: Jesus says, "Father, I want those you have given Me **TO BE WITH ME** where I am, and to see My glory!"

John 20:27-29: Jesus said to Thomas, "Stop doubting and believe!" Thomas said to Him, "**MY LORD AND MY GOD**!" Then Jesus said to him, "Because you have seen Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed!"

John 21:15-17: Jesus says, "If you love Me...**FEED MY LAMBS**... **TAKE CARE OF MY SHEEP... **FEED MY SHEEP**!"

According to Catherine Emerich, who saw more visions than anyone in gistory, there really were unicorns in the Garden of Eden.
