He certainly was not. Priests and lay people have to eat. The tradition in the Church has always been that fasting, even during Lent, should not be done on Sunday---Sunday, even a Lenten Sunday, is supposed to be a day of feasting and rejoicing, rejoicing over the Risen Savior Who rose from the dead on Sunday. Every Sunday is supposed to be a little Easter.
Of course, if we are going to eat on Sunday, someone has to cook on Sunday (I guess we could all eat apples and oranges that day, but the Lord doesn't expect that). As I said earlier, only UNNECESSARY wbodily labor is forbidden on Sunday. While cooking is bodily labor, it is necessary labor, therefore not forbidden.
For those interested, I go to St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 1214 Moylan Ave., Panama City Beach, Florida 32407. I have been a parishioner there since 1993. IThe pastor, and only priest (small parish), is Father Ted Sosnowski, age 45, born andvraised in Poland, and one of the finest priests I have ever known. We are very fortunate to have him.

If one is already a Catholic, one simply goes to the church secretary and registers in the parish. If one is not Catholic but attends Mass regularly, perhaps a spouse of a Catholic, one could still register in the parish and be on the mailing list, but technically, theologically they would not be members. If one is not a Catholic, but wants to become a Catholic, one goes through R.C.I.A. classes, which run from fall to Easter every year. Those who complete the class, and wish to do so, will be baptized and confirmed (if never been baptized in any church), or confirmed (if already validly baptized), on the Easter vigil, the Saturday evening Mass the day before Easter. This is the norm in most American parishes---some parishes have a less formal instruction process, with classes lasting about twelve weeks and likely to begin and end at any time in the year. I personally was instructed in the second way one-on-one in 1971. In other countries they do it different ways, but I think in most countries they now have some semblance of the RCIA---the RCIA is modeled after the catechumenate program that the early Church had.
