Does anyone know what is going on with the ownership of this team?
Really just how many fans in LA will follow the Chargers?

Silly, I think enard said it correctly since almost everything in life these days centers around the almighty dollar. Many business decisions are made behind the scenes that we never get all the details about which again involves the almighty dollar. Trademarks, royalties, guarantees, merchandising sales, etc. are just a few of the many things involved in these business decisions. I'm sure that many lifelong Charger fans and supporters will make the short drive from San Diego to Los Angeles to fill the stadium although it will take some getting use to by calling them the Los Angeles Chargers. Just think, only a year ago Los Angeles had no NFL teams and now they have two. Los Angeles is huge geographically with almost 200 miles from east to west and north to south in city limits so I'm sure this also went into the decision making process.

Since the LA market is so big you will see new Charger fans buying their apparel. I can assure you that many lifelong Charger fans in San Diego will be making that short drive to LA to watch those home games or this deal would have never taken place.

to me that would be asking Dodger fans being asked to support the Giants.

San Francisco and Los Angeles are many hundreds of miles away from each other but San Diego and Los Angeles are almost joining cities with many Charger fans already living in Los Angeles. Remember, Los Angeles has not had any NFL team for quite awhile but now they have two.

But if LA is so great, why do the Raiders want to move and play in Las Vegas?

But if LA is so great, why do the Raiders want to move and play in Las Vegas?
BECAUSE . . . Even though LA is such a big market having 3 teams there might be pushing it since there were none there for awhile until recently. The Raiders might not become the Las Vegas Raiders until 2020 with all of the details that must be ironed out.
On a different topic which only you would know the answer to, why do the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers wear the same colors? I don't know of any other city that has both a MLB and NFL team that wears the same colors. For all I know the Pittsburgh Penquins wear these same colors too but I'm not into hockey.

all 3 teams have black and gold uniforms. the Pens colors used to be sky blue and white.
they have learned that having multiple jerseys to sell bring in the money.

Thanks for the explanation and I might add that all 3 of your black and gold teams are very competitive in their respective sport.

I live in San Diego County, and according to the news/politicians here, the Chargers have been demanding a new stadium to be paid 100% by the City of San Diego or they will move. The issue went to a referendum in November to have the stadium paid for, and the voters turned them down. That was the last straw for the Charger owners. I think the Charger owners are "greedy stupid." I had season tickets to the LA Raiders when they moved to LA. LA will have trouble supporting one let alone two NFL teams, due to the population cultural mix there. I have met Charger fans that come down to SD from north of LA, so they will get some fans. I just don't think they will get enough fans to fill the stadium with two NFL teams competing for the local fan base. Last week the Chargers changed their website to say, "The Los Angeles Chargers" Many agree with me that if I were to drive to LA to see a football game, it will be to see UCLA or USC play. Both of those teams regularly sell out the Rose Bowl (UCLA) and the Colosseum (USC). I don't think the LA Raiders ever sold out their home stadium, the Colosseum.
