I just read 2 articles back to back...
Article 1 talked about proposed new health care plan cutting medicaid causing millions of low income people to lose help with health coverage...

Article 2 was about a $144billion tax cut for millionaires...

So the poor can just go hide under a rock and die....and the rich just get richer...

I can't believe we allow that...we are becoming like 3rd world countries...the rich get richer off the lower class labor workers...

Even Ivankas childcare tax credit program will only benifit high income families... Do you really think a person making $100,000 or more actually need help with paying for childcare and a single mother making $25,000 or less doesn't need help????

I pay my taxes and I don't mind if my taxes go towards helping the less fortunate...
You have single parents holding 2 jobs and still need help...what is wrong with helping them...they are trying...

Now for the lazy ones that are capable of working, but stay home and live off of state and federal assistant... Cut their funds...force them to go to work...

Everything you said was making sense until you up ended the whole thing with the right wing comment at the end. It is easy to label someone as lazy when you're ignorant. If you learn more about the majority of those receiving assistance, you'll find many have reasons besides the will to be lazy.

All throughout history when the poor have been oppressed enough, they learn to bite the hand that's not feeding them.

Forcing people to work is unconstitutional for a reason!

Welfare will never go away...why??? Because unlike some people (you) most Americans have no problems helping the needy...does Welfare need adjustments, monitored, and enforcement... Yes it does.. A person is not suppose to live forever off of welfare...its suppose to help low income supplement their income...it's suppose to help young single mothers by going back to school and get a better education...and help supplement elderly people's with low income...

We as a country send billions and billions to other counties...but have issues helping our needy...

I'm sorry I disagree...if a person is capable of earning a income, then why should they be living off of state/federal assistance???

Years ago in Italy, not sure if it is the same now, the unemployment office found work for the individual that was on unemployment... If they refused the job, they would lose their unemployment...

We cannot put a gun to a persons head and tell them to work...but we can tell a person that is capable (no mental/health issues) of working that we are cutting off their assistance...once again, welfare is to HELP and not support for a lifetime...

I don't disagree with you...but I disagree on Trumps method and over reaching... He is trying to go from 0 to 100 with nothing in between....his methods are more of corporate policies... But that will not work here...you can fire an employee because they don't agree with your policy, but you cannot do that to a goverment official... Trump is used to being the boss and do as he pleases...he think he can do the same as POTUS...and that will never happen...

The largest thing wrong with our country?

Campaign money! Our politicians are bought and sold by special interest groups.

Fake news! Today, candidates or surrogates can stand up there on a stump and lie their asses off, and idiots either believe whatever they say, or jump on the bandwagon to smear their opposition with it even though it is a total lie and they full well know it. There are literally 1,000's of websites today, that spread nothing but lies about their opposition.

Voter suppression- Instead of looking for ways to bring more minorities into the voter booths, nefarious politicians have found ways to make it as difficult as possible for minorities to vote.

Gerrymandering- Voting Districts in every county in the US has been unfairly and intentionally divided by rich white neighborhoods and poor minority neighborhoods. The polling places in the rich white neighborhoods are plentiful where you can walk in, vote , and be out in 5 minutes on average. But in the poorer minority districts that cover larger areas, there are far fewer places to vote, in many cases only a single place to vote, where the lines of people wrap around several blocks just to be able to get in to vote.

And of course, we have an archaic way of voting by using the electoral college. In the last election the president was elected by the electoral vote that was short 3,000,000 less votes than the popular vote. So a majority of voters are not allowed to win!

There are many other problems, but, if you could just fix these problems, we truly could have a true democracy in America. But what we have now are unfair advantages by one party over the other.

Right-wingers are doing everything they possibly can to turn the U.S. into a third-world nation.

-----------------

Six Ways America Is Like a Third-World Country

Our society lags behind the rest of the developed world in education, health care, violence and more

By Sean McElwee
March 5, 2014
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/six-ways-america-is-like-a-third-world-country-20140305

Although the U.S. is one of the richest societies in history, it still lags behind other developed nations in many important indicators of human development – key factors like how we educate our children, how we treat our prisoners, how we take care of the sick and more. In some instances, the U.S.'s performance is downright abysmal, far below foreign countries that are snidely looked-down-upon as "third world." Here are six of the most egregious examples that show how far we still have to go:

1. Criminal Justice

We all know the U.S. criminal justice system is flawed, but few are likely aware of just how bad it is compared to the rest of the world. The International Center for Prison Studies estimates that America imprisons 716 people per 100,000 citizens (of any age). That's significantly worse than Russia (484 prisoners per 100,000 citizens), China (121) and Iran (284). The only country that incarcerates a higher percentage of its population than we do is North Korea. The U.S. is also the only developed country that executes prisoners – and our death penalty has a serious race problem: 42 percent of those on death row are black, compared to less than 15 percent of the overall population.

Over two and a half million American children have a parent behind bars. A whopping 60 percent of those incarcerated in U.S. prisons are non-violent offenders, many of them in prison for drug charges (overwhelmingly African-Americans). Even while our crime rate has fallen, our incarcerated population has climbed. As of 2011, an estimated 217,000 American prisoners were raped each year – that's 600 new victims every day, a truly horrifying number. In 2010, the Department of Justice released a report about abuse in juvenile detention centers. The report found that 12.1 percent of all youth held in juvenile detention reported sexual violence; youth held for between seven and 12 months had a victimization rate of 14.2 percent.

2. Gun Violence

The U.S. leads the developed world in firearm-related murders, and the difference isn't a slight gap – more like a chasm. According to United Nations data, the U.S. has 20 times more murders than the developed world average. Our murder rate also dwarfs many developing nations, like Iraq, which has a murder rate less than half ours. More than half of the most deadly mass shootings documented in the past 50 years around the world occurred in the United States, and 73 percent of the killers in the U.S. obtained their weapons legally. Another study finds that the U.S. has one of the highest proportion of suicides committed with a gun. Gun violence varies across the U.S., but some cities like New Orleans and Detroit rival the most violent Latin American countries, where gun violence is highest in the world.

3. Healthcare

A study last year found that in many American counties, especially in the deep South, life expectancy is lower than in Algeria, Nicaragua or Bangladesh. The U.S. is the only developed country that does not guarantee health care to its citizens; even after the Affordable Care Act, millions of poor Americans will remain uninsured because governors, mainly Republicans, have refused to expand Medicaid, which provides health insurance for low-income Americans. Although the federal government will pay for the expansion, many governors cited cost, even though the expansion would actually save money. America is unique among developed countries in that tens of thousands of poor Americans die because they lack health insurance, even while we spend more than twice as much of our GDP on healthcare than the average for the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), a collection of rich world countries. The U.S. has an infant mortality rate that dwarfs comparable nations, as well as the highest teenage-pregnancy rate in the developed world, largely because of the politically-motivated unavailability of contraception in many areas.

4. Education

The U.S. is among only three nations in the world that does not guarantee paid maternal leave (the other two are Papua New Guinea and Swaziland). This means many poor American mothers must choose between raising their children and keeping their jobs. The U.S. education system is plagued with structural racial biases, like the fact that schools are funded at the local, rather than national level. That means that schools attended by poor black people get far less funding than the schools attended by wealthier students. The Department of Education has confirmed that schools with high concentrations of poor students have lower levels of funding. It's no wonder America has one of the highest achievement gaps between high income and low income students, as measured by the OECD. Schools today are actually more racially segregated than they were in the 1970s. Our higher education system is unique among developed nations in that is funded almost entirely privately, by debt. Students in the average OECD country can expect about 70 percent of their college tuition to be publicly funded; in the United States, only about 40 percent of the cost of education is publicly-funded. That's one reason the U.S. has the highest tuition costs of any OECD country.

Continued . . .

5. Inequality

By almost every measure, the U.S. tops out OECD countries in terms of income inequality, largely because America has the stingiest welfare state of any developed country. This inequality has deep and profound effects on American society. For instance, although the U.S. justifies its rampant inequality on the premise of upward mobility, many parts of the United States have abysmal levels of social mobility, where children born in the poorest quintile have a less than 3 percent chance of reaching the top quintile. Inequality harms our democracy, because the wealthy exert an outsized political influence. Sheldon Adelson, for instance, spent more to influence the 2012 election than the residents of 12 states combined. Inequality also tears at the social fabric, with a large body of research showing that inequality correlates with low levels of social trust. In their book The Spirit Level, Richard Pickett and Kate Wilkinson show that a wide variety of social indicators, including health and well-being are intimately tied to inequality.

6. Infrastructure

The United States infrastructure is slowly crumbling apart and is in desperate need for repair. One study estimates that our infrastructure system needs a $3.6 trillion investment over the next six years. In New York City, the development of Second Avenue subway line was first delayed by the outbreak of World War II; it's still not finished. In South Dakota, Alaska and Pennsylvania, water is still transported via century-old wooden pipes. Some 45 percent of Americans lack access to public transit. Large portions of U.S. wastewater capacity are more than half a century old and in Detroit, some of the sewer lines date back to the mid-19th century. One in nine U.S. bridges (or 66,405 bridges) are considered "structurally deficient," according to the National Bridge Inventory. All of this means that the U.S. has fallen rapidly in international rankings of infrastructure.

America is a great country, and it does many things well. But it has vast blind spots. The fact that nearly 6 million Americans, or 2.5 percent of the voting-age population, cannot vote because they have a felony on record means that politicians can lock up more and more citizens without fear of losing their seat. Our ideas of meritocracy and upward mobility blind us to the realities of class and inequality. Our healthcare system provides good care to some, but it comes at a cost – millions of people without health insurance. If we don't critically examine these flaws, how can we ever hope to progress as a society?

The proposal is moving from federal gov. control and giving that power to the states. Instead of direct funding the funding would come through block grants. It will force the states to manage their budgets.

What I see happening is states will continue covering Medicaid but for a limited time. Ohio did this with welfare. Instead of going on welfare and staying there these people now have a set time to work their way off of it. For those that simply cannot, remain on welfare while others have been weaned off of it.

Trump is betting on a much better future meaning less people will need these social programs. Obama on the other hand bet on a dismal future with very little hope of a positive change.

I think what we learned is that he will say whatever it takes to get elected and that means feigning being a leftist. However, once in power, Trump shows his true self as the far-right-wing, gangster-capitalist, rapist and looter he has always been.

All politicians do this. But unlike most, he's actually DOING the thins he campaigned on, that got him elected. He's being stymied at every turn by leftists, of course, Democrat AND Republican, but at least he's trying.

I shudder to think how bad it would have been under Killery or Sanders.

I don't want to pay more to help others. my health insurance just went up a hundred dollars a month. sorry, but count me out. I think liberals should have money automatically taken out of their pay checks to help pay for other peoples health insurance. they wont mind I'm sure.

Insurance rates has risen every year to date. They have been doing that since it has been on the market. People's rates had quadrupled in just the last decade- Before Obamacare, and they were paying far less of claims. Insurance companies would just refuse to pay any claim they desired before Obamacare. Deductibles have risen higher and higher every year that insurance has been in business.

Before Obamacare, Insurance companies could cancel you for whatever reason they wanted. Insurance companies were kicking people, just like you, off of their policies just when they tried to use it for the very first time. They refused to give you insurance if you had a pre-existing condition/s.

Before Obamacare, insurance rates for women was often times twice as much as it was for men.

So, people that think like you, I hope your rates personally triple! It serves you right!

I really don't see insurance going down either way...

Once ACA is repealed, all the healthy and young individuals that were forced to buy insurance will cancel their insurance...so that leaves employer based, preexisting conditions and older people having health coverage...

Once again that means many people utilizing insurance funds...therefore, more money out and less in...therefore, hiking premiums, copays and deductibles...

Its going to be a no win situation for us...

Insurance companies only care about profit...they have to pay their stockholders at any cost...unfortunately the cost would be a humans life...

Money is always more important then your life or your parents life or your siblings life or your spouses life and even your childrens lives...right????

I understand what Obama wanted...unfortunately It didn't work out as he wanted...he wanted all Americans not to have to worry about medical assitance...but for that idea to ever work, the private health coverage industry needs to be eliminated and a non profit organization needs to be created...

That will never happen here becsuse the rich and powerful will never allow it...
Once again, making more money counts and human lives dont...

We give far too much freedom to Insurance companies.

We give them the freedom to set the rates that they pay for any given procedure, treatment, or drug. But, the government is not allowed to set the rate for how much insurance companies can charge for their policies. Nor is the government allowed to set cost standards for Medical procedures, treatments or drugs.

We allow insurance companies to refuse anyone who has a pre-existing condition.

We allow Insurance companies to cancel policies for whatever reason they desire.

We allow insurance companies to refuse to pay any claim they so desire.

So basically, we allow insurance companies to defraud their own customers.

We also allow the Medical institutions, Pharmaceutical institutions, and the Medical Insurance industry to lobby and buy their politicians.

Most of the healthy young people (college age) are still on their parents health care plan. I would think that most parents would continue providing them that coverage.

Yes...only thing I'm greatful with all this is they didn't change that and preexisting condition...

But when I mean young, I mean up to age of 35...most health issues don't start till that age...

Insurance companies set rates conforming to state regulators. Those rates then need to be licensed for the company to sell. Ultimately it's government regulators that set the rates and boundaries the company must follow. They have to have evidence against the policy holder to withhold or face fines and lawsuits.

A big contributor to the rising costs of health insurance is due to the outrageous costs hospitals charge. Another are those trips to the ER which can cost on average $1,300 before any other treatments or tests are done.

Ambulance costs can exceed $2.000 depending on the distance and level of care provided.

Obama Care was supposed to have reduced the load on the ER's that never happened. The ER's are just as busy today as they have been before Obama Care.

ER's and hospitals are limited what they can charge folks that are on Medicaid and Medicare. So they make it up with people that have private health care coverage. Which in turn increases the cost of the coverage.

Hospital's overcharged because they needed to make up their losses with non insured patients utilizing emergency rooms and not paying the bill...
Now if the ACA worked as planned, everyone would be covered, hospitals wouldn't have losses and prices should have gone down...

That's not the at all. The increase in cost is caused by insurance not having to pay the whole bill. They only have to pay a small percentage, which causes prices of procedures to skyrocket. If health insurance companies are only required to pay 50% of the bill, medical costs have to increase by 100% to cover the loss. Once the ACA was passed, the rate insurance had to pay decreased, while taxes and fees increased to cover the subsidies for those who ant afford insurance. That will only make healthcare more expensive. There was absolutely no reason to think healthcare cost would go down with the passage of the ACA. It doesn't matter if more people are on insurance when insurance doesn't have to pay as much for a bill.

Most state's Board Of Insurance departments are nothing more than jokes.

We have allowed too many foxes to run too many hen houses, ending regulations as we know them, and the insurance lobby owns the regulators now!

But, yes, that was the way it used to work!

What I have always understood is there is an agreement between Doctors and insurances on the cost of treatment...
That is why not all doctors accept all insurances...

There isn't a single insurance provider that pays more than they are required to pay by law. The reason some places don't accept some insurance is because other insurance companies give them the incentive not to.

As long as we have health insurance, healthcare will be unaffordable.
