Last week the sight in my right eye was nearly gone except from the side. I didn't rush to the hospital since I was seeing my Oncologist on the 24th. He told me to contact my primary and get a referral to Ophthalmology. Did that and they called too late for me to get into their clinic and sent me instead to the ER clinic. This entire time it was assumed by my symptoms that I had a detached retina.
Now at the ER clinic early evening of the 26th. The on-call ophthalmologist was summoned. After a long series of testing on both eyes the diagnosis came back as
Central Retina Vein Occlusion or CRVO. Basically, a blood clot that leaks into the retina cause loss of sight.
This Friday I have an appointment with the retinal specialist. Evidently, there are things that can be done to keep the vision loss from getting worse. It's actually improved since last week but still very noticeable loss. Like someone took an eraser to part of my vision. A big improvement over the big dark gray splotch blocking out everything. I wonder if this is how it will stay or will it get worse again?
Anyhow add this to my cancer that's not responding to chemo, it is rare and very aggressive, add to the diabetes, add to the bipolar, add to the memory loss and to the degenerating lumbar disks. As long as God allows me my left eye I'm okay with the adjustments I've had to make. Haven't tried to put eye makeup on yet. That should be interesting. lol
Let me know if you've been through CRVO and how it affected your life.

I'm still adjusting to life without my full vision. It's really making me off balance and I've nearly fallen a few times. My time is coming to hit the floor. Hopefully, not my head.
The ophthalmologist said they've seen vision changes occurring for up to a year. Get better, get worse, get better then finally settling where it will stay.
The most concerning aspect about CRVO is it raises the risk of it happening in the other eye.
My son got me an eye patch so during the day when the sun is too bright I can play pirate. lol I look silly but it really helps with the light sensitivity. These are medical grade patches but it would be nice if they were in a different color than pirate black. Why not make some pink or purple ones?
Life goes on just a lot less in focus.
