That law should be passed in every state.

I live on a gravel road where it's nearly impossible to go over 30mph.
In the past 18 months 2 teenagers have died in roll overs because of texting while driving.

On a tar road near by, 3 small children have been hit & killed in the past 2 years while riding their bike or walking because a driver was texting while driving.

In this last school year on the nearest highway 7 high school aged teens have died because of texting while driving.

There are now almost as many crosses in ditches as there are houses.

I never even answer my phone when I'm driving. If I need to take that call I will stop, park & call them back.

No call or text is worth dying for.

Same here. Except they added something new. Now you can call police on your cell phone using *77 to report someone using their phone. People using *77 are allowed to use the phone and drive at the same time. See if you can find any flaws in that mess.

The entire legal system is flawed. Then again, maybe it's not the system that's flawed, but the intelligence of the people.

According to "law" a tort cause of action requires the failure of duty and injury/damage.

Where is the injury or damage if someone talks on his/her phone?

Now if someone actually causes an accident THEN someone would have standing for a tort cause of action.

I'm kind of a driving Nazi. I have no problem with people getting ticketed for being on the phone much like I don't have a problem with taking away licenses of drunk drivers. I don't do anything but drive when I'm driving and no surprise, I've never been in an accident, and I live in NJ. People should definitely drive when they are driving.

Driving is a privilege, not a right. You're free to do whatever you like on your own private roads, but if you're going to use public roads, you have to follow the rules.

There are those who have NEVER had a driver's license, have driven for YEARS and NEVER had an accident and there are others who have always have a valid license before stepping into a vehicle and have a poor driving record or at least one accident. People shouldn't lose life, liberty or property because they COULD have injured or damaged someone/something. People should ONLY lose life, liberty or property when they HAVE injured/damaged someone/something.

The highway that I spoke of is a 2 lane small town highway, but it goes about 1/2 way through the state.
I avoid it whenever possible.
Nearly ever time I have to take that highway there is either a head on collision or a near head on. I've avoided about a dozen.

Here's the kicker. I take this back road that gets me to the city my office is in. This road has barely any traffic & sometimes I never even see another car/truck. Mainly just tractors this time of year.

But THIS is the road that the sheriff's & highway patrol cars sit on to "catch speeders".
There are no speeders.
They sit there on the side of the road to take naps. Or there's a church & a town hall they park at to sleep.

The highway with people dying once a week never has any law enforcement on it.

Last month a 33 year old mother of 4 was hit head on & was killed instantly. She was from my tiny town.

Here's one better. There was a murder. The body was found just up the road from my farm back in some woods. The murderer first hacked up the body, then tried to burn it. Neither worked so he rented a backhoe. In returning the backhoe, driving the stolen truck of the missing DEAD GUY, the trailer with backhoe on it got a flat. Well good old Mayberry boys ESCORTED the murderer back in a stolen truck that the family had been looking for for 10 days.

There are a lot of stupid cops around here.

The one that constantly harasses me shot a guy about a month ago.
Needless to say, I will not pull over unless I get to a public place & I have told the county sheriff's department that.
It stopped the idiot from following me all the time.
They've also been told that they are not to come on my property without a search warrant or an arrest warrant.

They don't like me very much so I never ever speed & always make sure every light, blinker, license plate is working & visible.

And a btw to all those idiots who are always nosey about my life & my posting times - I'm at the vet with my dog today.
The clinic is 110 miles from home, so I'm stuck here all day.
I went to the VA Cemetary to see my dads headstone & I'm not a chick who likes shopping so I'm just bored.
I still have at least 4 or 5 hours to go.
Ugh.

So it's mob rule then. None of us CHOSE to be born into this world, so we are subjected to the tyranny of the majority regardless of OUR INDIVIDUAL desires.

Doesn't sound like freedom to me. Sounds like a group of people decide how everyone else can live.

If MY tax money is used to help pave the road, why then must I have a license? Does it GUARANTEE that I am a safe driver?

Will any of these laws GUARANTEE safety?

NO and politicians know it. It's about CAPITALIZING on the human nature to break rules. YOU don't benefit when an otherwise safe driver is ticketed for not wearing a seat belt, but some bureaucrat somewhere just ensured another days pay for himself.

Let's see if they pass the companion lawn, making it illegal to sing in the car.

I have Bluetooth, so there's no way they'll ever know if I'm talking on my phone, or singing to the radio.

But, I wish them good luck with that.

The law allows for that as long as it is not a hand held device, as usual you do not know what you say.

In Texas, you have to be 21 to be able to buy a handgun from a licensed dealer!

However, it is perfectly legal for an 18 year old to buy a handgun from an individual!
