Trump DID NOT appoint Mueller; the ACTING Attorney General did that.
The ACTING Attorney General is the subordinate on THE Attorney General.
THE Attorney General has RECUSED himself from all judicial matters concerning the "Russian" investigations.
THE Attorney General serves at the pleasure of the Executive and can only be relieved of his position at the whim of the Executive.
(The Executive is pissed at THE AG for revising himself and has refused to say he has any confidence in THE AG over the past week. Depending on Session's testimony today before the US Senate -- and whether Sessions represents the American Citizens he was elected to Congress to represent or becomes another "political traitor" and sucks Trump's dinky wonky ERGO there may be a new AG attempting to get confirmed in the near future.)
The ACTING AG, therefore, would have to be the one told by the Executive to relieve the Special Prosecutor from his position.
Since the ACTING AG appointed the SP would he recuse himself because of his involvement in the James Comey termination.
Oops!
That would mean that an underling of the ACTING AG would be charged with terminating Mueller's appointment.
Oops!
An underling of the ACTING AG is a CIVIL SERVICE employee, right!

Best case senerio: Both AG & a/AG stay true to American values and their own moral code, in addition to the ethical requirements of their oath of office -- to the point of resigning their positions and securing their careers.
There's always the Congress re-instituting the law and naming Mueller as Independent Special Prosecutor.
