How come the data's not matching the models?
Because they are only models. Most models underestimated the rate that sea level is rising.

The models have been consistently wrong.
That's why results have been buried, altered etc.
Even many of the scientists preaching climate disaster have begun to reevaluate their positions.

Not exactly. The analysis of climate data has been manipulated by both sides. But the fact remains, that the climate is changing, and its changing at a faster pace than a lot of scientists predicted and faster than models have shown in some cases, and slower in other cases. When it comes to sea level rise, it's rising faster than almost every model has shown it would rise.

Of course the climate is changing. It always has and always will.
The hugely conflicting data shows that we don't understand enough about our effect on natural cycles, and emphasizes a need for caution before action.
The wrong move could have catastrophic consequences.

If one wants to start a thread without understanding the difference between 2 things, I'll make fun of them because of it.
The models are wrong...OH NO!!! Computers aren't predicting actual events?! Here's what you miss, f**kball, the models DO say that the glob is warming, CO increases that, we as humans produce it. It's pretty simple to follow but don't expect most of you too.

Here's what u miss DUMBSHIT.
The models DO say that the globe is warming, but it's NOT.
I'm sure man does effect things, but I don't believe we understand exactly how.
Did we speed up natural cycles or slow them?
We had better be certain before we act or the results could be catastrophic.

Diference is amount of time! Weather is short amount of time, like when you watch it the news and the give the weather for a week. Climate is long periods of time, maybe decades or even longer.. like CLIMATE in Brazil Amazon is humid and CLIMATE IN desert Sahara is very dry.. CLIMATE in Norway is almost always overcast... just some examples

I don't see ur point prog.
As I said the climatic cycles have been going since the beginning of time.
Wyoming was once a tropical rainforest, deserts were oceans etc.
In the early 20th into the 50s the temp was cooling, prompting fears of an impending ice age. Since the 70s there has been no significant rise in temps. Fluctuations of 1-2 degrees at most.
The fact that the models are consistently wrong says, to me, that we need better understanding before making radical change.

The earth absolutely goes through natural cycles. But the climate also follows the main driver of the climate, which is the sun. Our climate always mirrors the amount of solar output, with the exception of things like large amounts of volcanic activity. However, the earth is currently warming as solar output is declining. That's not supposed to happen, but it is. And it's not going to go the other direction anytime soon. The sections of permafrost are continually moving north. New vegetation is sprouting and at much faster rates than anyone predicted. It is absolutely getting warmer, and it is absolutely going to continue on that trend. The amount of land glaciers is declining, and many of the glaciers have reached the tipping point and will not regain enough to keep them from disappearing. The sea level is continuing to rise, and that isn't going to change either.
The fact is the planet is warming. The fact is humans contribute to that change. The only thing in question is how much we contribute to that change.
In my mind, it's already too late to change what's happened. People may say I'm wrong, especially since we've managed to reverse the damage from leaded gas, and the ozone is rebuilding itself thanks to most of the world banning certain chemicals. Maybe it's possible, but I think the better solution is to prepare for a climate that is going to continue to change.

I'm sorry prog, but, with some fluctuations, solar output has been rising since the late 19th century. And the average temp is only 3ish degrees warmer than it was then.

I'm talking about solar output in regards to the sun's approximate 11 year cycle. The earth has followed the output until this most recent cooling cycle. Why?

You don't see pouring in as much carbon into the atmosphere as we have as alarming? In a very short time, we've managed to increase the amount 40%. The climate is going to take a while to adjust to that kind of input.
By the time the evidence of climate change is larly visible, it will be far too late. And it's already visible. The Inuit tribes of northern Canada, the ones who live close and above the arctic circle would certainly agree that there's been a hug change in a short period of time. So would any sailor who regularly takes the northern passage. And while oil companies won't actually say change is happening, the sure are excited about the possibility of drilling for oil where they haven't been before, all because the climate is changing.
Don't worry. We probably won't be around to see the consequences of what we have done. But I feel bad for anyone with kids.

There should be no guy overreaction for sure. We can definitely agree there. But there are sensible steps to take to possibly minimize our effect. We were successful at solving an increasing lead content in our oceans, and the ozone is recovering. Sometimes there are actual solutions out there. It's just difficult for some to make the distinction between actual science, and that same science used for political and monetary gain.
Like with the banning of incandescent bulbs. I agree that they are inefficient. However, in banning them at the time, the only sensible option was cfl's. How many people actually properly disposed those? About 0%? So who knows how much mercury we just added to our landfills. Of course no one really cares because we just pile up garbage and cover it with dirt. That's our solution to a ridiculous amount of waste. It's not to be more efficient in our lives, it's pile the waste up and bury it. Eventually people can make their homes on top of this garbage heap. It can be called Staten Island.
The real solution would be some kind of social revolution where everyone rebelled against excess waste. I won't hold my breath for that one though.

Prog, I think we are basically in agreement here.
I've been all over the world, and lived in many states. I've seen the beauty and I've seen what man has done.
I've also seen what good intentions combined with human arrogance can do, time after time. (Old tires new reefs)
Humans tend to believe we understand when we really dont, and that we can fix what we really can't.
When the stakes are tbis high there is no room for arrogance.
We have to get it right, or the consequences could be devastating.

THEEEEEEEEERE'S my little cheerleader!!!!!! Shake them pompoms for daddy!!
Quote from jillybodobrog, maybe you can tell everyone how much this earth 'naturally' emits methane gas into the atmosphere.
What in the world does that have to do with anything? Maybe you can tell me how the earth naturally emits gigantic amounts of carbon from Bejing, for whatever reason. Odd place for all the carbon to be released into the atmosphere considering the lack of volcanic activity.
Scar, u've repeatedly shown ur ignorance on this (and most) subjects. Let the adults talk.
By the way, do u know what the "old tires for new reefs" program was?
OOOOOOOOOOOO girl!!! And you have educated me too!
not familiar with your program, don't give a f**k.

so people like you could read it. still waiting for your research on the earths natural emission on methane gas. So I guess we now how two issues to consider.
I know all about the natural methane gas emissions. I just fail to see why you're mentioning it.

High today to be 118 with a low of 90 tonight.
Got to be Trumps new coal mine behind it!
The things you say are alarmingly stupid. He obviously isn't to blame yet, but his policies will make it worse.

It's a 'so called' greenhouse gas. The question is, how much of it is the earth 'naturally' emitting versus man made emissions?
