Here is a fact:

There is no "hell" in the Scriptures. None. Nada. Ziltch. Zero.

Even if your KJV says there is, they are wrong.

It doesn't matter if you agree with that or not. It is a fact and will not change just because you don't like it.

There is no one set of beliefs that applies to all Jews. There are 70 sects or movements today from among the Jews. Each one has it's own set of beliefs. And there are several movements of Jews who do not believe in an "afterlife," as some have suggested here.

The KJV was first published in 1611, not 1511. And it was NOT the first English version to be published. Tyndale's Bible was the first English version.

It seems that among many of the words translated from Ancient Greek and Hebrew that is used by the KJV, they can't seem to make up their minds as to what these words mean.

According to Strong's the KJV translates...

_____Strong's_____

G1067 geena gheh'-en-nah
of Hebrew origin (H1516 and H2011);

valley of (the son of) Hinnom; ge-henna (or Ge-Hinnom), a valley of Jerusalem, used (figuratively) as a name for the place (or state) of everlasting punishment.

KJV: hell.

as well as...

_____Strong's_____

G86 haides hah'-dace
from G1 (as negative particle) and G1492;

properly, unseen, i.e. "Hades" or the place (state) of departed souls.

KJV: grave, hell.

and...

_____Strong's_____

G5020 tartaroo tar-tar-o'-o
from Tartaros (the deepest abyss of Hades);

to incarcerate in eternal torment.

KJV: cast down to hell.

And yet the KJV can't seem to make up their minds as to what 'haides' means... the "grave" or "hell." Is "hell" about the body being buried or is it about the soul entering into punishment? Or are they trying to say that the soul waits in the grave until the resurrection?

Such confusion.

It is this type of confusion that makes the KJV unreliable. I can't imagine why anyone would still be using it.

Every English Bible translation has had scholars to translate it. Every one. And yet among a list of 25 Modern English versions, the KJV is only one of 3 that uses the word "hell."

Sheol
Old Testament. The Hebrew word seol [l/a.v], "Sheol, " refers to the grave or the abode of the dead ( Psalms 88:3 Psalms 88:5 ). Through much of the Old Testament period, it was believed that all went one place, whether human or animal ( Psalms 49:12 Psalms 49:14 Psalms 49:20 ), whether righteous or wicked ( Eccl 9:2-3 ). No one could avoid Sheol ( Psalm 49:9 ; 89:48 ), which was thought to be down in the lowest parts of the earth ( Deut 32:22 ; 1 Sam 28:11-15 ; Job 26:5 ; Psalm 86:13 ; Isa 7:11 ; Ezekiel 31:14-16 Ezekiel 31:18 ).

SHEOL
It connotes the place where those that had died were believed to be congregated.

'Hades" is a translation of 'sheol,' from Ancient Hebrew to Ancient Greek.

So the Jews and the Christians alike seem to agree that "hell" does not mean what so many here seem to think it means. The word 'sheol' is where the word 'hades' comes from. Compare...

CLV Psalms 16:10 For You shall not forsake my soul in the unseen; You shall not allow Your benign one to see corruption.

CLV Acts 2:27 For Thou wilt not be forsaking my soul in the unseen, Nor wilt Thou be giving Thy Benign One to be acquainted with decay.

The Jews of the Bible and Orthodox Jews of today do not have a "hell."

Quote from ludlowlowell:
The one and only rationale why Hell is forever---Jesus said so.

Jesus made it very, very, very clear on numerouls occassions that Hell exists, there is fire there, and the fire burns for all eternity.

Quote from iam_resurrected:
if God is going to send hell [grave] and death to the Lake of Fire, which is meant for Satan and his imps. then those sinners under the "free will" clause by God, are also going to the Lake of Fire.

Do you think just because the KJV translates 'sheol/hades' as "grave" that it is so? And what about "pit"?

Also, the word "imp" is not Scriptural.

CLV Re 19:19 And I perceived the wild beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, gathered to do battle with Him Who is sitting on the horse and with His army.
20 And the wild beast is arrested, and with it the false prophet who does the signs in its sight, by which he deceives those getting the emblem of the wild beast, and those worshiping its image. Living, the two were cast into the lake of fire burning with sulphur.

The "unseen," 'sheol/hades' is NOT the same thing as the Lake of Fire. Each has it's own function.

CLV Ps 16:10 For You shall not forsake my soul in the unseen; You shall not allow Your benign one to see corruption.

CLV Ac 2:27 For Thou wilt not be forsaking my soul in the unseen, Nor wilt Thou be giving Thy Benign One to be acquainted with decay.

_____Strong's_____

G86 haides hah'-dace

No punishment. No burning. No "eternity."

The soul does NOT survive the death process...

CLV Lv 24:17 In case a man smites any human soul so that he dies, he shall be put to death, yea death.

CLV Num 35:11 then you will proclaim your cities which shall be cities of asylum for you; there the manslayer will flee, whoever is smiting a soul to death inadvertently.

CLV Num 35:15 For the sons of Israel, for the sojourner and for the guest in their midst, these six cities shall be for an asylum to flee there for everyone smiting a soul to death inadvertently.

CLV Ps 33:19 To rescue their soul from death And to preserve them alive in famine.

CLV Ps 78:50 Who aligned a track for His anger; He did not keep back their soul from death, And He closed their life over to the plague.

CLV Ps 89:48 What master could live and not see death? Could his soul escape from the hand of the unseen? { Interlude }

CLV Mt 26:38 Then He is saying to them, Sorrow-stricken is My soul to death. Remain here and watch with Me."

CLV Ja 5:20 let him know that he who turns back a sinner out of the deception of his way will be saving his soul from death and will be covering a multitude of sins.

CLV Num 23:10 Who counts the soil-drift of Jacob? And who numbers the dust cloud of Israel? May my soul die the death of the upright, and may my hereafter be just as his!

CLV Ezk 18:4 Lo, all the souls are Mine, As the soul of the father, So also the soul of the son--they are Mine, The soul that is sinning--it does die.

Even Jesus told us that the Soul dies. And He is the Word.

That's good.

So many here seem to think that "hell" is the Lake of Fire. They don't understand the function of the Lake of Fire.

But still, 'sheol/hades' is not the "grave." And they are not the "pit" either. And they are certainly not "hell."

'Hades' is an Ancient Greek translation of the Ancient Hebrew word 'sheol.'

SHEOL ():

It connotes the place where those that had died were believed to be congregated.

After all, it is thier language.
