Has anyone ever been to the Canary Islands? I would like to visit in the next year or so and would love to know if anyone has any tips or suggestions of where to stay/what to do while there. Is a week enough?

Yes,I was there in the nineties. I took a cruise out of Barcelona and did a short stay and a turn around. I wish I could help you more, but most of what I remember has to do with sun, sangria , siesta and big platters of iced down shrimp (the 4 S's). I remember that he vendors give you a better exchange rate on plastic because apparently they hold it and go against stronger currencies on the $ market. If I recall anymore I'll post it. Enjoy your trip, Tom

Thanks Tom! As you can tell, I posted this about two months ago and no one had replied until now. I'm continuing my research.....I'm going regardless but wanted to get more personal insight from DH travelers!

Hello there,
I have been to the Canary Island pleanty of times, since I was overeas in Germany. Don't go in August time frame to Fureteventura, because it is very windy and only if you are interested in wind-surfing. Gran Canaria, Ibiza, are very hot u will love it. Teneriffa is more like Fuertenventura not in August. Best time to go is in September, you will find less tourists there too, only people who are retired. I hope, this was some help for you.
