I just this evening completed Charles Darwin's famous, "The Origin of Species". It was good but not exactly light reading by any stretch of the imagination. I found myself having to go back over more than one chapter for clarity until I felt satisfied with my level of comprehension. I'm feeling an odd sort of accomplishment with having completed it however. It was challenging but worth the effort. I'm now contemplating what to begin next. I might need to sleep for a couple days first though.

a novel, The Christmas Hope, 2005, by Donna VanLiere, also an actress and speaker, living with her husband and their two daughters in Franklin, Tennessee,

"For some reason I had always assumed that when God wanted our attention He would do something big that would rouse us from our sleep to bring us back to Him, but I was wrong. God is always speaking. We are the ones who are hard of hearing. God is always patient, waiting for us,,, We are the impatient ones, demanding to be convinced. We want something real, something we can touch and see to help us believe. The mountains, oceans, and skies aren't enough. Our babies who smile and laugh and reach for us aren't enough. We need more. And we have it, all around us, every day. If we would just take the time to listen and see, we would walk toward God and,,,"

Early Decision. It's a novel about the college admissions process, written by a former admissions consultant. It's interesting to me because I used to do law school admissions consulting and had similar experiences regarding digging deeper with students to really understand what they wanted and show schools who they were.

LORD of the BARN-YARD: Killing the Fatted Calf and Arming the Aware in the Cornbelt

(I think I own it in overdue fines now )

NYT
“Tristan Egolf's Lord of the Barnyard merges dirty jokes with three-dollar words in a surreal, scatalogical survey of the state of small-town America. Egolf's hero is a farmer-idiot savant named John Kaltenbrunner, a boy … Finally, he sinks to one of society's lowest rungs -- garbage collector -- and from this vantage exacts his revenge on the upstanding citizens of his Kentucky hometown, methodically and diabolically using his knowledge of the animal kingdom to turn the valley into the barnyard of his dreams.”

I think this may be his only work - so I'm savoring it:

“33-year-old Tristan Egolf, a novelist cursed with promise at an early age,
Egolf's brief life story reads like a fairy tale. A punk rocker turned street busker in Paris, he struck up an acquaintance with the daughter of Patrick Modiano, a prominent French author and screenwriter (''Lacombe Lucien"). Modiano helped publish Egolf's first novel, ''Lord of the Barnyard," in France. Subsequently published in Britain and the United States, ''Barnyard" received gushing reviews. Le Monde likened Egolf to Mark Twain,”

I'm back to rereading Dune. I started on it a few months ago, and I was just starting to get into it when I met this girl, and then I didn't have as much free time. Lol.

Our relationship fizzled out, and now my evenings are spent with books again.
