I'm curious how big is your Libray and what do you have in it? My library is at around 700 paper-backs and about a 100 hard covers. It's pretty much all sci-fi and fantasy but I have a few book on philosophy and botanical books on orchids...One of my hobbies. So what do you have in your library?

I live close to a local branch, and thanks to the LINKS program, I have access to millions of books! I can order
any book in the state and any book in any library in our sister state of Nevada, and it is delivered to my
branch within a few days. (if someone has checked out the book I want, the system will not allow you to
request it until it is returned. ) I love the library, and go every day of the week, as we can request 30 books,
movies, dvds, and I most always have something to pick up. As far as the actual library, the local branch
has a large children's section, new arrivals, lots of music and movies, a good collection of short stories, and
a good selection of cook books and art books.

OH! I own crafts books, about 15, many craft publications, about 5 books on cats, a dozen copies of Cat Fancy and
Catnip, and a few French language
textbooks! I prefer to copy what I need for my crafts (I do crochet, knitting, sewing, embroidery, painting,
drawing, etc) from library books and then index for a file drawer. I have 1,000's of ideas, designs, directions for
all kinds of fun projects, and hope I live long enough to make some of them! I do occasionally buy a book or
even a used book, but I donate to library once I am finished.

I, like you, own hundreds of books! It is my goal when I get my own place to have a room with floor to ceiling bookshelves in a room dedicated as "the library." I am a huge advocate of literacy, so I am always buying books of one kind or another. I have genres such as romance, mystery/suspense, action/adventure, biographies, political science, miscellaneous textbooks, true crime, christian living, misc. fiction, other miscellaneous topics and a large volume of children's books that I have collected for my (future) children. Books are wonderful! Happy collecting!!

Never counted but have books everywhere in my home. I have a lot of interests, reading being one of the main ones - have books on history, psychology, archeology, geology, geography, medicine, genealogy, gardening, interior decorating, music and song books, computers and technology, crime, romance, mysteries, books on religion, the Holy Bible, the Koran, classics, puzzles (logic and crossword), biographies, and others. I will read the phone book if there is nothing in the house I haven't read. My Mom always said that when I had my nose in a book that I was in another world!

I love books, all the genres. I teach literature. I have a library in the lower level of my house.
I went from teaching high school, to preschool, to first grade to fifth grade and now to seventh grade.
So not only do I have my own favorites 'The Thorn Birds' and the classics "To Kill a Mockingbird', I have a variety of age level books that I can't part with like 'Stephanie's Ponytail', 'The Outsiders', and 'Keeping the Cool.'

When I taught h.s. one of the guys and I used to pick books for each other to read and then discuss. It was kind of fun, because we had such different taste. But we had some great discussions. There was one book about an assassin mastered the game of GO. For the life of me, I can not remember the name of the book,, but I loved it!

Somewhere around 1500 books, about three quarters paperbacks with the rest being hardback. As far as genre goes I have about everything you could imagine, and then some.

Good Lord! My library was a lot larger than I thought! Never considered actually counting them until I packed them up to move to Washington! I had 15 boxes of books that contained about 88 paper backs in each box total count was 12 of those boxes, and the other 3 had larger books in them. The weight alone of each box was about 30-40 pounds. Yep, I spent a lot of money on that move! The genres were romance, sci-fi, fantasy, literotica, cooking, crafts, wicca, natural phenomena, folklore, how-to's, and a few childrens books. Talk about a portable library!

I have been a Civil War reenactor for the last 23 years and needless to say that most of my book collection, must be around 100 books, deal with the Civil War era. Although lately I have been purchasing books dealing with the period leading up to the war. The small percentage not dealing with history, covers books by and of Tolkien.

I have books about herbs, gardening, home remedies, historical fiction, biographies, autobiographies, I also like to read kids books once in awhile. If I kept all my books they would be stacked to the ceiling. I found a website a while back called bookcrossing.com. I sometimes register my books there and then I put them out in a public place for someone else to find and read and hopefully they will register the book they read and pass it along to someone else. It is a neat way to find out where your books go. It is an interesting site. I encourage everyone to look at it.

I have appx 5000 books in hardcover, and 2000 paperback. We have a library room for my books. Most of them are historical from the 1700s to the 1800s. I've started collecting more modern books as of last year.

I actually have a floor to ceiling, two story library in my house. It was one of the requirments when I went to buy a house. I've been reading since I was four and I have every single book I've owned since then. I have a kids section at the house where I have all the kids books that now MY kids read. It's awesome, I spend more time in my library than I do anywhere else.

The count? thousands I would imagine. I lost count at 15,000 years ago. I used to read a book a day now with kids and all it's more like 1 book every 2-3 days which still averages about 2-3 books a week. Yup I lost count

My favorite book of all time is: Embracing the Heart, Engaging the Mind. It was written by Joseph R. Dunn PhD, and is available on Amazon. The link is below.

CHECK IT OUT!!!

http://www.amazon.com/Embracing-Heart-Engaging-Mind-Resilience/dp/0578011565/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

Here's an excerpt:

People do not live to be two or three thousand-years-old, but their stories do. Stories bring us as close to immortality as we can experience in this life.

Embracing the Heart, Engaging the Mind: Universal Stories of Resilience (with commentary) offers an array of 65 teaching or wisdom stories from around the world that have been passed down from generation to generation. The stories come from a variety of cultures and traditions including Rabbinical (Jewish), Sufi, Zen, and Christian. They come from Europe, the East, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas.

Each story is followed by commentary which is mostly psychological in nature with some social and spiritual observations. A few of the stories have an historical basis and are modern; however, most are traditional and date back centuries.

The “Introduction” begins, "In the beginning, before there were psychologists, consultants, and experts, there were stories." The theme of the book is developing psychological resilience, that is, not only surviving but thriving in spite of facing life obstacles. Some would refer to the theme as positive psychology. Psychological resilience deals with developing personal strengths rather than focusing upon psychological disorders.

I'd say I have around 300. My library has all kinds of stuff. Horror, mystery american classics, british classics, biographies, philosophy, history...

I also collect old books, not for thier monetary value, I have a few that are 100 years old, but my pride and joy is from the 1850's. It's titled "Happy Homes and the Hearts Who Make Them". I't a homemakers guide which is funny because I would never be a very good homemaker, my Mom bought the book for me as a joke.

Mostly Fantasy, some classic and more traditional (and yet still fantasy-esque) HG Wells, Poe, Dumas, Chaucer, etc.
As well as some non-fiction that I never seem to get through, mostly on pirates, death, paranormal, mystic and mythological, etc. A few craft and cook books too

i used to have probably around three thousand books or better...

i moved into a house, sight-unseen, and placed the many, many boxes in the attached storage shed to continue moving stuff in...i'm anal about my books and they have to go into the bookcases in alphabetical order by genre and author. anyhow, they didn't tell me the little issue that happens when it rains...

four feet of water swallowed the shed. the books that were NOT under water were ruined anyhow, since the boxes wicked moisture up into the other books. *sighs*

anyhow, i have a few hundred right now. i stopped buying print-books when i got my kindle...and i have over ten thousand books on my computer that can be placed on my kindle.

i mostly read fantasy, but i also enjoy mysteries, suspense, horror...anything really well-written.

Too big. WAY too big. All genres too- old textbooks, my kid-lit from early 50's, my son's kid-lit books, plays, physics, crafts, science fiction, religion, philosophy, fantasy, assorted manuals for cars I don't own anymore, computer books, then there's the antique and collectible- leather bound collected works of Twain, Balzac, Chekhov, others. A few dozen different Shakespeare books (complete works to single plays to commentaries). Plus a small cabinet of cookbooks.

25 years ago when we bought and moved into the house, we moved 28 boxes of books from 5 bookcases. About 1/2 were lost in a flooded basement, but over the years the collection has been doubled at least three times. There's not a single room in the house without a bookcase or two (bathroom only has room for 1 shelf though) that's filled mostly with double rows of books.

Like I said: WAY too many

Wow! What a fun question! I have no idea! Calculating.... about 1250 and it's a huge mix - probably equally split between reference (cooking, art, language, spirituality, music, history, mythology, religion, etc.) and historical fiction with smatterings of fantasy, sci fi, poetry and espionage.

I can't say for sure, but they take up 6 to 7 mid sized boxes. Right off the top of my head the number would be:143, but that would be an estimated number. As for the genre's of books they are: Fantesy, Regancy Romance, Paranormal Romance. With a sprinkling, of other topics that are not coming to mind at the moment.

I grew up with a library in our house, never had to go to public library for research, only for fun reading.
And then as I grew older and started buying books, it never stopped.

I remember a few years ago the guy I was seeing built me bookcases across one whole wall in my living room......when he was finished I pulled boxes of books from everywhere and filled the whole thing up that day.......he never realized what I had hidden under the bed...

Since then I gave most of the books to a family with 5 kids that all loved to read. Keep just a few, but now have started my collection over....

Now thinking of buying an e-reader.
