Yep, love Anne Rule, and would have to say that " Small Sacrifices" is my favorite of her books. That Diane Downs is psychotic!

I like Anne Rule. But she had a book of short stories. One story was about a family with two boys. It was the worst true story I've ever read. I've read everything she's written along with many more. There's a GA writer that wrote about the Columbus, GA strangler, & a few more. Another one is the Phenix City Murder of Gov. Patterson. Then one that was written about my family, Murder In Coweta County. So much of it isn't the truth, so I'm armed with journals and transcripts. I've promised my great aunt, I'd write the true story. Anyone want to ghost write this???

I have read every Anne Rule book printed. I have also moved into other books about court cases. There was a book written by the woman that turned the letters on Wheel of Fortune! She married and darn if the guy was not a spy. Yeah, a real spy. He liked to go on "trips" into the mountains. He got killed and it was 8 years till she knew about what he was doing and what became of him! She married a rich guy because he had spy guy pay. But he was all a lie.
Lots of crime out there! I have not read shawcross selections. Are they a series or are there many of them? A

Arthur Shawcross was a deranged serial killer. I wanted to know if any one heard about
him. I figured that it could open the discussion for people to talk about serial killers.

I have read almost every book that John Douglas has made. His books sometimes get very
graphic but they are worth reading. He was one of the first profilers for the FBI.

I just got done reading "How I Helped O.J. Get Away With Murder"
The famous glove scene in the trial was one of many interesting parts of the book. Before the trial O.J. told his sports agent that he did not want to try the gloves on. Mike
Gilbert, his sports agent, asked him want happens when he stops taking his arthritis
medicine. O.J. told him his hand swell up really big and the rest is history.

I've read most of Anne Rule's books. Like her writings, but she shares top billing with quite a few other writers for me.

I've read about and seen shows on Arthur Shawcross and many other serial killers. I watch a lot of Crime tv either on ID, Biography or Court TV. I like reading web articles on Court Tv too.

Helter Skelter was good, but I find Charles Manson's FOLLOWERS so disgustingly weak I have a hard time stomaching it. I've read too many other books to really remember a particular one, but one that stands out is "The Shoemaker: The Anatomy of a Psychotic" by Flora Shreiber who also wrote "Sybil".

I have read mny of her books and books on serial killers and all kinds of weird goings on. It just reminds me of why I stay so cynical of people, kinda gives me a reality check if I start to feel "friendly". Lol.

I'll tell ya a story about true crime~
My son, Joshua (19), was found dead in Amsler Park/McGregor, Tx on February 16, 2006. It was a horrible shock to me the way this unfolded. Little did I know that I wouldn't be able to get the real truth from a law enforcement agency!
On Feb. 22, I contacted the former Interim Chief, Chris Molina, to inquire into the progress of the investigation. He told me, "We don't begin an investigation until something suspicious is found." I told him that the whole thing is suspicious because my son would not kill himself. He said, "There were no footprints in the gravel." I replied, "How would you know if there were 5-6 kids playing there?" He said, "It would take two people to get him up there." [WHAT?!] Out of the blue, he said, "At ten after one, there was nobody in the park." [At this point, I had no idea of how Josh died]
About two weeks later, I spoke with former Det. Kory Martin. He told me, "As of today, the investigation is over." I asked, "What investigation, Molina told me there wasn't one?" He told me he had spoken to my son, Michael, Josh's girlfriend Kayla, and Mr. Bill Holt who ran the perimeter of the park everyday. I knew he hadn't, but to be sure, I told Martin I would call him right back. I asked Michael and Kayla. I called Mr. Holt. Kayla and Mr. Holt told me that no officer had interviewed them. Michael told me he vaguely remembered Martin speaking with him, but was unable to recall the conversation, as he was being treated for shock by EMS personnel.
I called Martin back, telling him he hadn't spoken to anyone but Michael. He told me he found out all he needed to know from him. I told him, "No, it was me that had seen Joshua last (or so I thought), had you talked to me, you may have gotten a different perspective!"
Soon after this conversation, I rec'd a call from Ms. Kelley Lewis-Amecuzca, an associate with Southwestern Inst. of Forensic Science/Dallas. She asked, "Who was the last person to see Joshua?....Oh, never mind, it says right here in this report, that a patrol officer saw Joshua in the park @ 1AM!" I said, "WHAT?" She said, "Oops, I wasn't suppose to tell you that."
I called McGregor PD and asked which officer had seen Joshua, and was told, "I can't remember." (There were only 2 officers on duty)
Although I had scheduled and paid McGregor PD for a funeral escort, not one officer arrived to do the job. When I inquired about this, I was told, "We were unavailable." This is not true, as our procession almost collided with a patrol car enroute to the cemetary.
I began by using the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) to obtain 'any and all documents related to the death of my son, Joshua.' I only got the statements of the detective and the seargent and a partial listing of the dispatch logs. Of course, I didn't know police protocol. So, I once again used the FOIA to request the statements of the on duty officers~Kirby and Norris, the full dispatch logs for the entire shift, the crime scene photos, and the written notes that Martin had to have taken when he interviewed my son, Michael.
Martin told me he hadn't written anything down.
Per the dispatch logs, I learned that a 27-29 (wants and warrants check) was ran on my son. However, even though all 8 McGregor officers knew my two sons, especially Joshua, the four, on scene, stated they did not recognize the subject! Yet, former Officer Norris ran a 27-29 on the unknown subject at 5:44AM, with no identification, nor a suicide note!
The 'subject' was pronounced deceased @ 6:15AM, by Justice of the Peace Culpepper. Some 15 minutes later, when he was removed from the chain, the back of his shirt was pulled down, revealing ROBINSON tattooed across his upper back. An officer commented, 'because of the proximity to the Robinsons' home, they figured he must be a cousin they had never dealt with.' [WHAT??!!]
I analyzed the statements of the on duty officers, of which I did not receive until April 28, 2006! I viewed the crime scene photos and the dispatch logs. I noted the discrepancies and inconsistencies.
I began to ask questions of the PD:
1) How and why run a 27-29 on an unknown subject with no identification?
2) How is it possible for former Officer Kirby to have been first on the scene, as his patrol car (#1507) was not dispatched to Amsler Park?
3) Why was former Sgt. Freeman called in to work @ 4:37AM?
4) Why wasn't this case investigated? All deaths are investigated as homicides until PROVEN otherwise?
Former Chief Ron Wadkins answered #1: "It's not like the officers have drivers license numbers in their heads. A wants and warrants check is done in case there's a warrant, it can be dismissed." I said, "Who cares, he's dead!!!"
I contacted the Texas Rangers, specifically Steve Foster/Company F/Waco, to request an investigation into my son's suspicious death. He denied my request several times over the course of about 2 years..............NOW, he is Chief of Police/McGregor! Coincidence?
I went to the FBI, told them that I thought the PD murdered my son, but was told I didn't have enough evidence!
There was a crime scene photo of a cigarette butt. Joshua would NOT smoke! The current chief, Foster, told me, "All of the officers smoked except one, thus, the cigarette butt!" [Why would the officer take a photo of a cigarette butt that was one of theirs?]
I researched this case, teaching myself basic forensics, such as manner/cause of death, cadaveric spasm, rigor/livor mortis, and digestive processes pertaining to the time of death, etc.
I spoke with the Medical Examiner. He told me he initially ruled Undetermined, but changed the ruling to Suicide. He also told me there was no evidence of strangulation!

I have spoken with Ann Rule, my favorite author via blogtalkradio. I'm struggling to write a book about this 'travesty of justice', but I'm having a hard time writing about the death.
I hope all of you will support me in my fight for justice. Please sign and/or comment on the petition.
Thank you.

I've been reading true crime for over 30 years. My passion is with the sadistic serial killers and how their minds operate. Anyone can kill family members, wifes etc. But a serial killer is a true killer. These books and the details and pictures have never bothered me until I ran accross one book. Within the first 25 pages, I hit one page and it felt like someone had stuck a knife in my stomach and twisted it. The nausea came over me. I couldn't believe it, what had just happened to me, and after all these years.

The name of this book is called Signature Killers by Robert Keppel the foreward is written by Ann Rule in which she states:

She was not able to read this book at night herself. At times she, herself had to put the book down and go outside. This book is not for the faighthearted or those with delicate stomachs.

This book should be used as a textbook on multiple murder for serious students of the criminally aberant personality. It should also be a manditory read for those in law enforcement.

This is a book that places you in the mind of the serial killer. Because I loved true crime so much this was a exciting read ( after those pages ). It helps you understand the aspects of the signature murder. In this book you gain the knowledge to help protect yourselves and those you care about. This book is to be read slowly

I think I may have a problem because it's all I read and even listen to the books on tape when traveling. Of course I've read every Ann Rule book (some more than once)and there are a few new authors that do an okay job-she's just the best. I've learned a lot about forensics and nifty stuff like that, but I'm afraid to stay alone when my room mate goes out of town. I did consider some of the options during my divorce a few years ago lol. I think he got some ideas from the tapes. There were times that his behavior was exactly what she was describing about the crazed killers-very creepy!

I've read all of Ann Rule's books, some probably more than once because I read them so long ago I forgot I read them. Also read all of John Douglas's books. Ive read most all of the true crime at the library its hard to find any any more that I haven't already read. I've been interested in it for years. I'm so glad someone brought it up! Some of my friends think I'm crazy but its so interesting to me, how some of these people's minds work, or don't, depending on how you look at it.

I like Ann Rule's books as well, but I don't always stick to one author. I usually read the description on the back to see if it's interesting. I only read True Crime books. When I lived in Michigan, I would finish a book and swap with a friend of mine, then she would pass it on or donate it to the local used book store. Since I've been in Tennessee, I usually offer them on freecycle. Some of the most recent books I've read and would recommend highly are:

Such Good Boys
Lost and Found- Lacey Dugard story
The Missing Girls
Darker than Night

Sorry I don't have the authors for these, but I'm sure you could look them up by title.

I am currently reading "Sleep in Heavenly Peace" by M. William Phelpswho is a well-known true crime author. It is a very good book. I will not give all of the details, but it involves a mother and 4 dead babies. I started reading it a little over a week ago and am already about halfway through it.
