Yeah this topic moves me... A little over 8 years ago when I was first paralyzed my folks were the only ones behind me though, my marriage ended and I lost everything... They told me I could do it on my own as they had friends and relatives who had... They also told me that they would be there to help if I needed it but as with all things in life I better learn to do for myself because of how society is... They did not need to say anymore... When I was able to get out and about on my own and to this day I hear "Where is your helper?" you know like I need a nurse or something, I also am asked why I am out and about without a spouse which I consider the something LOL. Yeah I would love to find someone accepting but until I do I can do everything just fine on my own to include raising my boys when they are with me. It amazes me how many people in society think that just because someone is disabled means they are not capable of being independant yet I know quads who do for themselves all the time...
It ain't what knocks you down it's how you get back up and keep going.
