Have stepped in once in awhile, hoping to learn more about Montana. I love my state Oregon, but it is changing. I love being able to go to the mountains and snow and in the same day go to the ocean. Walking in the woods and the undergrowth - never seen it like in Oregon. Wild life and the smell of the woods. Our lakes and waterfalls - so many of them. Sadly, it is getting smaller and smaller, as the cities grow. So to is the way people care and take care of each other. Growing up here a nieghbor never would have gone hungry if there was food in your own cupboard. Now it's done nicely through fund raiser's and you don't know your nieghbor. Still so many things I love here, but would like to know more about what Montana is really all about?

good question. I wasn't born in Montana, but for me Montana feels like home. I love everything about it. The mountains, the lakes and rivers, the wildlife, the people. It's in my heart and spirit. Land is one thing we still have plenty of for now. I'm sure in the future that could change, but for now we have plenty, and it's so beautiful here.

Thought you all would like this poem I got from my friend who lives near me in Helena.

It’s winter in Montana,

And the gentle breezes blow;

Seventy miles an hour,

at twenty-five below.

Oh, how I love Montana,

when the snow's up to your butt.

You take a breath of winter,

and your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful,

So I guess I'll hang around.

I could never leave Montana,

My butt is frozen to the ground.

I was speaking to a californian in a small town bar located in the Ruby valley southwest Montana. He was complaining that no one will consider him a Montanan after living here for five years. I explained to him being a Montanan is not about resedency but about how you act and who you are. Montana is a wonderful place with wonderful people and all I can say is if you leave your state to move to Montana then leave where ever you come from behind and become a Montanan. Share your land with those who love to hunt and fish, buy the bar a round and be thankful you are in Montana, leave your states polotics, laws, and hatered right where you found it and just enjoy the Montana state of mind.

Couldn't have said it better my self. I've been to every state except two. When I'd had enough of everywhere else, I packed up everything I owed, drove up here to Libby without anything but the skills I had as an electronic technician, and have been so busy helping out the good folks here with their problems (there isn't anybody doing what I do for 100 miles) that in the last 14 years I haven't had the time to make up that "Gone Fishing" sign I planned to hang on my shop door every other day. When I left where I had lived and worked for 12 years, one day I just told everybody that I was moving to Montana to die. But in "The Last Best Place" you can really live. I'm not going anywhere.

I don't, it's awful here. The mountains keep you prisoner. half the time it's too cold to go outside. Everybody looks and acts the same, like white rednecks. This is a place where dreams go to die. You can't find a decent job to save your life and as a result you never have enough money to leave. I would rather see this state turned into a toxic waste site. At least then it would be somewhat interesting.

your so wrong, here in Bozeman every summer the homeless come and camp at Sunrise Campground, they work for Labor ready save the money up and move just before winter sets in. Maybe it's your attitude, if you carry a chip on your shoulder no one will befriend you, you won't get hired anywhere, and face it getting your foot in the door should be the priority shouldn't it? I've had several good jobs here. I know for a fact you can get a job at Yellowstone National Park, the pay isn't exactly great but it's a wonderful place to work your room and board is taken out each pay period and you don't miss the money. It's not a bad place to be you do work your butt off though. Just a thought, and Yellowstone is in WY for the most part. Good luck to you in getting out of the Montana I for one plan to never leave I love it here.

with the huge chip on his shoulder he probably needs his own state. He can run it how ever he wants to. Or California might not want him either with that big a chip on his shoulder. You get what you give is a very good lesson.

There are all 4 seasons here.
No state sales tax, thank goodness.
The state has mountains, rivers, small towns, moderate sized cities, no large populations, a crime rate lower than other states.
A great deal of wildlife; elk, deer, buffalo, bald eagles, owls, mountain sheep, mountain lions, bear (black, brown, grizzlies), moose, canadian geese, swans. (I can see all of these within my immediate area and don't have to travel far or to a zoo.)
Glacier National Park.
National Bison Range.
Clear skies (hence one of the nicknames of the state; Big Sky Country)
Great fishing, hunting, hiking, and camping sites.
Rivers and lakes where you can raft, canoe, kayak through rapids or gentle flowing waters.
Wildflowers like the bitteroot and many many more.
Forests that have grand cedar trees (near Noxon Dam).
Amazing rodeos and country fairs.
Superb people who genuinely care about and help one another.
This is where I learned a great many things about life and myself thanks to my mom, grandparents, siblings, and friends.

y u ask ? montana is my backyard. no where in the world is it home like montana !!!pull up a stool, have a beer on me , then lets drive around and nothing is the same anywhere, from east to the west, north to the south, so different, yet the same, friendly people everywhere, except for the ones that moved here with closed minds(Californians) who like to close off the land and then demand street lights, sidewalks, plowed streets, paved roads, all in the country, where they moved to get asay from it all .

The very first time I visited Montana, I fell in love with it.. My brother lives in Clark Fork,Id. so every time I go there I have to go to Mt...I think its where I belong...I feel so at peace within myself... The very first visit I was in Missoula wehre the people couldn't have been nicer..helping me find my way around and telling me about things to see and do...I had plans to move there 2 yrs ago but had to postpone as my son was very sick and I just couldn't leave.. But I am still considering it.. When I show my pics to my friends they can't believe how beautiful it is there...

I love hunting and fishing, but it seems every year a different place is bought by an out-of-stater. I used to hunt around Dillon quite a bit but this last year I drove all the way down to my spot and the ranch hand said don't even bother some prick tree hugger from California bought the whole place and wants to protect the deer and elk from hunters. Not only that but the ranch hand said he's had the place for almost a year and he has only seen him once, when he bought it!

Since summer is just around the corner, the medical community is already advising
and warning about the dangers of too much sun.

For example:

this young girl with the fair skin can receive a sunburn in as little as 20 minutes
of exposure. Use sunscreen wisely throughout the summer.

Two more weeks and I can head back to Montana. I sure am looking forward to getting back home. I'm ashamed to admit why I have to wait two weeks to come home. I broke my foot,

I love the mountains and the lakes.

This is just a reminder since the summer is just around the corner.

Skin cancer is becoming an epidemic with all the sun worshipers spending too
much time in the sun unprotected.

For example, this young lady will start to burn in as little as 20 minutes and probably
sooner if she's around water.

1. Wear sunscreen
2. Wear a hat
3. Stay out of the sun between 10am and 2pm.

Would love to see Montana someday. It's clear that most of you love it there. I have loved Oregon all my life. It is sad to say the Oregon in my heart and memories no longer exits. River's, Mountains, wildlife, rugged land with good hearted rugged people. Yes ma'm and no sir. Taking turns, a good well meant greeting to those that pass your way. There just might be a rather ragged tablecloth on the table, but it welcomes all to stay as long as they are heart felt in thier friendship. That was my home, my Oregon. Hope you all will cherish what you have. Civilized money and concrete and big TV's cannot give you back what you would loose for selling your souls

I remember a time when Oregon was a cool place to visit and live.It has become as bad as California and Washington St.When will the people of these states learn that if you let the liberals run things they will run their states right into the ground.Just look at the states that are controled by liberals, every one of them is broke with no relief in sight.Montana is a conservative state with the 4th smallest number of people yet we have a 402 million dollar surplus,so,I ask again when will the good people of the liberal states wake up and see the light?

I was born and raised and lived most of my life in Wisconsin. I've seen many beautiful states and some awe-inspiring views.

Montana is damn hard to beat.

Try driving North on 93 toward Polson. You will crest a hill that will reveal your first sight of Flathead Lake. If that doesn't take your breath away, you're dead.

That is only one of thousands of beautiful vantage points.

Don't pay any attention to the whiners and the cry babies. They can go to Delaware or Maryland for all I care.

Well I made it back home yesterday. I love Montana, but I'm begining to think there are too many people from a certain west coast state trying to turn us into California. I noticed one Montana newspaper headline saying they were trying to legalize pot here. Then I go down to get a cup of coffee and smoke a cigar out front of the coffee shop, and they made it against the law. If I'm outside, down wind of everybody, who am I hurting? If you want to make a law, make it against the law to be in congress for more than two terms, so these fat-cats can't get rich off us taxpayers. Ok, I'll get off may soapbox. I really don't know about Montana to much i have only been here 2 weeks. I moved her because i wanted to come home. They say home is were the heart is and my Daughter and Granddaughter live here. So this is were my heart is.

After living in Las Vegas for 13 years. It is wonderful to see all the trees and grass. I grew up in Spokane, WA. And Missoula feels like home. I have not gotten out to much but the few people I have meat were nice. Nothing like people in the big cities.
Life is better with family and friends.

I have been to plenty other states and I can honestly say that Montana is the only state where you can wave at a perfect stranger and THEY WAVE BACK!!!!! Its like one BIG happy family. In my opinion there is no better place to live. This is where I wish to raise my kids and hope they keep up the trend.

Dave I was raised in California but I love everything about Montana, the beauty here is breathtaking. I'm not a money grubbing a** that has any desire to change anything about this beautiful state! I hope you don't mean me hon.

Montana is all about the beauty of the mountains and Yellowstone park. Were about camping swimming and hiking in the summer in the winter its all about going snowmobiling and skiing in red lodge and big sky if coarse got to have the money to do that.

Boy, that wanghung is sure unhappy with the place! I say to people who want jobs that make lots of money: "I've never heard that said about here." This is niot the place to be for a "decent job." Our decent jobs leave and don't come back. I came here for to be near the wilderness and the wild things that live there. You can't take it to the bank, but in the Garden of the Soul, you can plant new flowers. There comes a time in life when we realize the value of the Garden of the Soul. That's why I'm here.
