So far, mine would be James Patterson, John Grisham, Tess Gerritsen and Sir Kenneth Robinson--The Element--.
The Element is reflecting on how to perceive students inablilities and how to reverse to make it into the students abilities. He uses humor and as an educator for many years, I finally found a book which showed me new ideas. More importantly, ideas which could be contructed and utilized to benefit students... Guess I sort of got off the topic, ehh!..lol

I have a few that I like to read some of their works but my top favorite writers are stephen king and anne rice, they taught me the notion of writing, I am published, a few poems but I'm working on publishing my other stuff now and it's all due to the fact that when I sat down and read the stand by stephen king one summer at age 11 I just knew I could turn my works into something someday too.

I would have to say that my favorite author is James Patterson. A couple of years ago I got three of his books in hardback and I had them all read by New Year's Eve.
I also enjoy Robert Ludlum. I remember being just a kid and my dad reading Robert Ludlum novels...what a trip
Most of Dean Koontz is good. I have been waiting for 3 years for the third installment of "Frankenstein" only to recently discover that the third and fourth have both come out. Now it's been so long since I read the first two that I will have to re-read them before I read the last two.

Nora Roberts and Nora Roberts as J.D. Robb, JA Jance is right up there also. Until a few years ago I was a reading snob. If it wasn't full of advice, multisyllable words written into every other sentence I didn't read it.
I would have missed so much entertainment. Openned my mind to so many possiblities in the way others respond to adversity. I've learned a lot and been thoroughly entertained.

Anne McCaffrey - some of the best science fantasy around!! She made dragons great over 30 years ago, and is still going strong! And now her son Todd is adding to the collection! Wonderful reads! If you want strong story line, realistic characters, and a great 'escape' try the Pern series - or any of the other series she has going .....
Also enjoy Nora Roberts in both personnas...... Glen Beck, and so many others... I read a lot of non-fiction as well..........
Sunshine and sweet breezes......

Just discovered a "new" author who's actually been around for a while, but she has been mentored on Celtic world by a more seasoned author on that topic. It's Mercedes Lackey, and the new book is "Gwenhwufar," a re-telling of the Arthur tales from the female perspective. It's every bit as good as the old fighting tales, and an entirely new viewpoint. Lackey was inspired & mentored by the late Marion Zimmer Bradley.
I'm halfway through this book, and I can't put it down. I HIGHLY recommend it.

I have several. Gore vidal's Lincoln was great, showing the intricacies involved in government and how Lincoln managed to steer a centrist course while fighting to keep the Union intact.
Stephen King has some good scary novels like Misery and Pet Sematary.
F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby demonstrates the limits of wealth

Way too many to list. Depends on the genre as to who the favorite is.. I guess if I had to choose one over all genres it would be Dean Koontz for fiction and Shakespeare above all else.

My favorite author is Jean Genet. His book The Thief's Journal affected me more deeply than anything else I've ever read. He was a noted Existentialist, homosexual, and Black Panther advocate. He was a criminal and wrote mostly about events he'd lived through, "creative autobiography" and also wrote plays. He was a great friend to Jean Paul Sartre who wrote the most personal and thought provoking biography (about Genet) that I've ever read. As an author, what strikes me most about his works is how he delves into things that society has deemed ugly, disreputable, immoral, and wrong, but he writes about these things in a way that beautifies them. He enlightens his readers to the beauty found in the least likely of places. I will say that I've given The Thief's Journal to 5 of my best friends and not a single one of them managed to get through it, so I don't claim it to be an easy read, or even that anyone else would find the same value in his works that I do, but to me, he's a master storyteller/philosopher.

John O'Donohue but there are so many
that if I started listing we would run
out of space.
I used to live in a very
small town (about 3000) and I started at
the begining of the alphabet and attempted
to read around the library. Some authors
I could read forever and some I never made
it past the first chapter. That was fun.
Think I might try it again but start at the end
of the alphabet.

I like a lot of the authors already mentioned. My all time favorite book is by Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged. I am reading The Fountainhead for the first time though and find it really depressing.....
I like Ludlum, Forsythe, Patterson, Koontz, and a host of authors never heard of.

OK, I will have to check it out. I like to finish a book before I see the movie, but the book makes me sad, LOL. It is discouraging to watch so many people just caving to things because they don't see them coming.....
What sort of books do you like?

let's see of the classics
the generation of the 1920's were pretty good Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and though panned by critics of the time I liked Sinclair Lewis.
the two classics of that decade are Great Gatsby, and Babbitt
