hi everyone I waqs waundering if anyone knows the procedure of the ssi review. I have been getting ssi for 5 years and havent had a medical review. I called the other day and social security said I will be getting a package in the mail in september . I know it will be for medical papers to be filled out and I have been seeing my doctor reguarly. What would be the reason why they might turn me down? I have no drivers license and cant get to work anyway. would that help? How long does it take for a determination?

The review is based on your qualifying medical condition... Social Security verifies periodically
to confirm any changes
Unfortunately, I doubt the fact that you don't have transportation would count towards
your condition...
You will have to provide confirmation from your Doctor, so this is a "heads up" to
get all your ducks in a row so to speak... you can ask your Doctor for a letter regarding
the condition you have and any new ones that may be relevant and increase your odds of
continued acceptance
These reviews can be stressful, but if you document things it will stabilize the situation
Hope for the best and prepare for the worst

Ccherie is correct to what she wrote, Luv..........SSA is buckling down pretty hard to review alot of cases these days for good reasons. I received a letter from SSA stating that reviews are coming up but I am eliminated this time from being reviewed.
Follow Ccherie's suggestion.........and, good luck!

I am not sure if you are on SSI or not, but they do reviews periodically to make sure you still qualify for your diability checks......they ask you questions, but if you are getting a package in the mail.....then it appears that you are trying to get SSI? Tell me if I am wrong there. Having a drivers license or not doesn't make a difference, or getting to a job.....you must have a Picture ID, birth certificate. If I am out of line here I do apologize

You are welcome and I think you will be just fine, I have had several reviews, I had one last year and this was after my Cochlear Implant, which sort of helps me, but I still have trouble hearing.....the processor needs to be programmed, it just brings in all the noise that it can possibly bring in for such a small device, but it is an amazing device, not like a hearing aid that just amplifies the sound......and make me flinch, if that is the right word to use, see I am always wondering if I am using the correct English here......all you people are so very nice and have been on here for such a long time

Thanks simply. You done good! I have never been reviewed myself. However, my conditions have drastically changed so I wouldn't be surprised if I did get one. I still can get paratransit service and discounts on the bus. I was evaluated for this about a month ago.
Best wishes, sweetie! How is the housing situation going?

hi joni, I have to go to social services on friday and it has been 2 weeksthey paid for the last 2 weeks but I never know what they will do on friday . In this county they have put people up for a year or so but those are the people who have no income . But since I get 700.00 a month I cant see how they will keep doing that I dont know. They give me an apartment search form to fill out with 10 places and people just make it all up. there are no apartments in my price range let alone this time of year. Will they keep paying until I find one? I am freaked

I don't know. I have known people near here who were put up in motels for a time. I just don't know how long. They didn't keep in touch with me.
Good luck though! The shore can be a hard place to find a place to live this time of year. Is there any possibility you could move inland a few townships? That might give you a better chance. Or do you have to stay where you are?

I have gotten review notices also most from life inusrance companies reviewing my wiaver claus and one from a private disablity insurance company. They have a form for me and one for the doctor. on the bottom of the form for me I add " when I find out there is cure you will know also as it will be announced on the evening news as a major world event". Yes I'm one of Jerry's kids......
I have gotten a notice of review from Social Security but that was it nothing more than a notice........

This is supposed to be humorous, but it is too close to reality to be ROFL funny. I'm going through the process myself, and I have already lost a great deal of my belongings. I'll have to live in a homeless shelter for two weeks to qualify for most programs that distribute federal dollars, my tax dollars at work, locally. The system is horribly broken. The people who created the laws/rules obviously failed arithmetic and economics.
From what I have heard from just about everyone regarding SSI, the procedure goes something like this:
First, you request a set of paperwork. If you have a lawyer, they will help you request the paperwork and set up an appointment with an SS robot.
Next, you do an interview, and begin sending in paperwork. It is customary and reasonable for the interviewer to get everything wrong, and the interviewee will be blamed for all errors, and all attempts to correct said errors will be ignored.
Next, because you have clothes on your back, and maybe a roof of some kind, you will be sent your first denial letter. You will have to get rid of your clothes, your roof, and anything else you own before you can try again.
Now that you are naked, you get to try again. If you are lucky, only one more round of this will be necessary. Yes, you will have to take off your fig or banana leaves.
Quite frequently, after being denied 4 or 5 times, you get to go before a judge. This is your best bet. Of course, by now, two to five years have passed and you have no where to go anymore.
Of course, this is what happens when you apply for SSDI. Since all of the paperwork that was filed was mistakenly used to consider SSI, you get to try SSDI again. In addition, you will not qualify for private disability insurance because you have a disability and tried to work.
Ooopss...wrong topic I think. Oh well.

snugs you have a right to a hearing with ss. then if you disagree with them then appeal.
they should give you a answer in the first meeting. you have 30 days tom appeal.then you have to start over.I got my ssi on first try. they sent me to thier dr. allways give short answers.one word is best.

Seriously? That's scary.........and, I agree with Cat.......demand an answer from them....show them letter and envelope stamps to show that you only received few days rather than 30 days *I thought it was two months* and how to go about appealing to a hearing. Good luck, dear.

I hired an attorney to help me through the process. It has been rough so far because I have been very dysfunctional since I have had almost no luck with meds (they have made it harder to function in many ways, and I have to change them again and again. Bleah).
