I finally found Shogun in paperback at the used bookstore and get to read 'Book II'. Note to self: check for multiple volumes on cheap used book 'finds'. I've already read Gai-Jin, and liked it, but not as much as Shogun.

I also bought Taipan, Whirlwind, Noble House, and King Rat by Clavell.

Has anyone else read his stuff? I am really hoping they are all of similar caliber. I once went out and bought a bunch of Michener books because I like Centennial. Big mistake.

So, have I invested my $16.00 wisely in your opinion?

I read most of them with the exception of King Rat. I enjoyed them quite a bit. I have to say that I started reading because I remember seeing Shogun on tv when I was a kid. Funny thing is I never did get to see the whole mini series. All in all they were worth the time it took to read them.
I never could get into Michener either.

I've read them all and enjoyed everyone of them.

I always save my books and I have actually re-read them over the years.

same here. Can't part with a great book and wonderful to just reread it again when the mood strikes.

If you've found an interest in JC, you will probably also like the TV series made off of his books, I specifically liked Noble House.
