I'm pretty certain most of you read some of his awesome work. While nothing will ever come close to Romeo and Juliet, still my favorite love story of all time, this sonnet, Sonnet 29: When in Disgrace in fortune in Men's Eyes here also hits deep and still applies to his modern day:
When, in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possess'd,
Desiring this man's art and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate;
For thy sweet love remember'd such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.
My interpretation of the sonnet is this: although he has many riches, money, and perhaps even power, he still feels like an outcast not only to his society, but to the heavens itself, most notably seen with the "trouble deaf heavens" not hearing his cries. He wants to be rich in hope and harmony, something that his riches combined cannot offer him all together even if he tried. He desires ot be someone else, some who experiences such freedom and happiness, yet bound by his thoughts and place in the social order, more wishing of the fact that he becomes a commoner within the society that he lives amongst his merchants, peasants, and commoners.
This notion still applies in an way today were most celebrities, as well as men/women in power, for the most part just want to live in an daily life, wanting to escape that high status that they are in, instead of the label that riches and money has put on them. Truly one of his greather sonnets that he has ever written.....gamer

Thanks, I try. I always try to read poetry or whatnot and gain another person's perspective within the world. Makes you think about life in general as well as how notions from the past applies today, which is kind of cool when you think about it. Thanks for your input.....gamer
