There is a difference in being alone, and being lonely. One is a state of being, the other is an emotion you choose to feel. If you have happy, productive thoughts even though you are alone you don't feel lonely.

Friends, specially married ones, think your divorce will rub off on them. What a bad way to look at friendship. True friends do not take sides and they do not abandon people. But, I found out the hard way that friendship is only superficial with some people. Instead of being there for me, they just wanted their own agenda met.

I feel lonely every now and then when I come home from a hard days work and walk in the house and the silence is deafening like a seashell. I miss being led to the bedroom too..........and that oh so beautiful pelvic thrust yall do when your laying on the bed taking your panties off

I feel the most alone when I come home (from anywhere). The silence still affects me and sometimes, I feel soooo sad about it.

It feels the same coming home to an empty house. No spouse...no pet. Just a bunch of empty rooms.

Well I felt most alone when I was going through Chemo and had to sit alone while I was getting treatment. That was the worst actually. Since most of the people in the room had a Signficant other with them holding their hand and I did not. That was the lowest I felt.

When I climb in bed or take a shower. Those two things I hate doing alone.
I'll sleep on the couch a lot or take a quick shower. The fun was gone but I think I found a friend to fiddle with.

Hey I am Greek too, my Dad went to Astoria High school. I am 6 years older than you. I don't feel my life is over, far from it. Cheer up. Join Weight Watchers if your weight bothers you, lose 25 pounds, get a new hairstyle, new wardrobe, etc. Be kind to yourself first and realize you are worthy of love.

I'm a widower (2+ years) and I posted this question on the Widows thread, so I wanted to ask the same question here so I can compare.
For some reason, I, and other widows and widowers, feel lonely, not when we're at home alone, but when we are at some social function. We see couples and families together and it causes us to feel alone and out of place. We feel less lonely when we are alone than we do when we are in a crowd.
When to you feel the most lonely? Alone or in a crowd? Thanks for your answers.

Taichi...thats dang funny..
Actually thought about getting a pet..But I work so much, and just have an apartment..I wouldnt feel right about leaving a dog at the house..And I cant bring it to work with me..
I dont mind cat's as long as they are declawed, fixed, and already litter trained..Dont have the time in the day to train them..
Mostly a dog guy, but my ex and I had a cat (already declawed, trained, etc) and she was awesome, loved that cat..

I feel alone now, I am at work,I usually call my wife this time of day,it hurts too bad to even look at the phone. I dont miss her as much,I miss what we had.There is just a lot of security and feeling of completion knowing that my lover of 15 years is waiting to hear from me, its all gone. I carry on ,its tough.I get optimistic when dating and try to have an open mind but a lot of single women I meet simply want to have a good time.I miss the commitment that dating cannot give me until my heart knows its right again.It seems that not settling makes it harder.I want what we had , not her,my values as a man has changed,no one seems to be able to look past the games to value anything beyond physical contact.what else can I do ,I want to give new people a chance but its creepy out there.

Cats are wonderful too, just can't have one since my son has bad allergies to their dander. Try a Maine Coon cat, they are incredibly affectionate and highly desirable cats to have.
