i recently got new chrome wheels,and ive detailed cars my whole life.
i dont want to wax em.
i'd rather use something good to spray clean up.
any good stuff out there?

I've used oven cleaner for most everything. It will remove bugs, tar, rubber, brake dust, wax, spray paint, etc......
Spray on, wipe and wash off without leaving it sit on the finish for too long. Never had it harm the paint but wouldn't want to chance it. It strips wax so if you use it on the finish plan on waxing afterward.
DO NOT use it on raw aluminum - it will dull.
Used to do Tidy Car detailing way back before they were affiliated with Zeibart.

seems like the chemicals would be pretty harsh from it.
i was thinking "never dull".
its a rolled up peice of cotton in the black can....and its ingredients arent too overpowering. but i know theres more out there than what im mentioning.

yeah, oven cleaner.
Use with care because the chemicals are harsh - but is very effective, assuming you still have enough functioning brain cells to pay attention to what you are doing.
If you are gonna be texting, watching tv, playing wii, and detailing your car all at the same time it's probably not the product for you.

The best thing to use is dish soap such as Dawn. Other types of cleaners can eventually damage the chrome

I use Mother's"Mag & Aluminum" polish.Works good,especially on the radiator.

Im sure most of you might disagree with me on this one...
Windex,and ultra fine steel wool.. Its numbered..get the one with all 0's..
I use it on my chrome wheels.no problems.but then again mine are older than yours. We even use to use it on the chrome oem wheels when i worked at lexus detailing cars..
It also works on windows. NOT tinted though..
If not,just use soap and water.

You people are all wrong. NEVER use windex or any of them solvents on chrome/paint. They strip wax and any other protective coatings that are one it leaving your wheels prone to pitting and tarnishing. Same thing goes with dish/laundry detergents, they are designed to break down oil so therefore they also strip your paint/wheels of any protection they have. Best way to protect your wheels is to get a good quality wheel wax and microfiber rags. Microfiber rags will take off any wax residue and will not leave them microscopic swirl marks on them either and best of all they are reuseable! Good luck

Are you talking about chrome plating or coated and polished alloy?
Only use a soft auto polish or paint wax on plastic coated alloy. Clean with just sponge and soap first, don't let detergents dry on it, keep watering. If you're going to use any kind of degreaser it has to be alkalai based (oil degreaser) not acid based (mag wheel cleaner) as the latter strips the plastic coating off, makes the alloy go white and porus, can ruin the wheels completely. Mag wheel cleaner isn't for mag wheels, only steel rims and certain alloys, never aluminium, never magnesium like the old 5-slotters.
On raw polished alloy, these are usually al-alloy use an aluminium polish and rub rub rub to keep it brilliant. Steer clear of acidic chemicals, it ruins the metal. Alkalai only.
On chrome plating don't use steel wool, the dust gets all over the place and rusts it. If it has rust spots use brass wool. Otherwise any detergent with a regular car wash. If it's got tar spots spray with methylated spirits then rub or hot steam off.
After chamois just a wipe with a soft rag you dampen slightly with a spray of diluted window cleaner (just for lube) to get rid of streaks or water marks, a good flannel you can just damp with water but sorta depends on the cloth.
If the chrome is basically clean but just got muddy/dusty/etc. just wash chamois and wipe, use window cleaner if you want it to really look sparkly. Window cleaner can't hurt chrome plating unless it's etched or something, it might darken those bits so don't use it in that case, but on regular straight chrome plated steel, no prob.
