Smoking that is. I haven't had a cigarette in about 50 hours and 30 minutes, but I'm thinking about it a lot. Any good advice?

Hi. Welcome to MO forum!  I've never smoked in my life, but my dad used to for 40 some years and thankfully he doesn't anymore.
The biggest thing is your mindset. GREAT you've made up your mind to quit.
That's the big part is changing the way you think about smoking or cigarettes.
It's not easy..it's just like dieting (whether the person thinks they have more power or for example the piece of chocolate does that they think they have to have? ..just an example)
Keep yourself busy = less time to think.
Keep talking with us on here, let us know how you're doing..support group
I don't know much about the patch or the gum but some have tried those. Some I know including my brother quit just cold turkey. Everyone has different ways.
Start a new hobby or exercise program to replace when you feel stressed or would normally get the urge for one (after supper, when stressed etc...) Find something ahead of time to replace that urge with.
It's all downhill from here..you've made your mind up! Congrats! I can already see your next post being 30 days smoke free, 60 days, 6 months etc...

Good luck. I visit my brother (3 yrs older) in the nursing home on a regular basis. He is there directly related to his lifetime of smoking. I lost my mom, dad and two brothers to lung cancer. Good luck.

I quit ten years ago, my grandson was born and I did not want to smell like smoke anymore, or have second hand smoke around him, find something you love more than smoking, set a small goal, then go smell an ashtray, rub some cigarette butts in your hands and smell your hand, it stinks, and when you smoke that is what everyone around you smell, your hair stinks, your clothes stinks, your vehicle stinks, your house stinks, everything stinks, and as a beautiful lady I could see you smelling real good by treating yourself to a favorite bottle of perfume, try it honey, i love it that I don't smoke, plus you will have money for other things, GOOD LUCK

Hang in there Alias. I quit about 6 years ago after smoking 3 packs a day for over 35 years. You can do it if you have your mind set to quit. But, don't beat yourself up if it takes a couple of tries. Once you REALLY decide, you will do it.

^^^^^ What Bob said. Hang in there, if you backslide use your energy to get back on the horse instead of beating yourself up. This June 29th will be my 5 year anniversary of being smoke free. It didn't happen the first attempt.
Hey Bob....on a side note, I have family in Calhoun right up the road from you. Nice area to live.
