My name is Bryan; I'm a communications major at W.V.S.U. I’m wrapping up my bachelor’s this spring and applying for a Masters in Arts and Teaching at Marshall this fall. I’m also just a few semesters short of having a bachelor’s in English as well. Thanks to not being able to make up my mind. The plan was that I'll be going into journalism, but now I'm leaning towards wanting to teach. Either way, as long as I’m writing I’ll be happy. I more or less like the idea of teaching a writing for media course or even a creative writing class. Currently I write news articles for the school paper, run the equipment in blocks at the campus radio station, and help out other undergrads with film projects.
I'm really big into art. Writing, film, music, performance, you name it, I respect it. I’ve dabbled in acting for student film projects, and while I had a blast doing it, I really don’t think I’m suited for it. Directing film is also something I’ve been interested in. I’ve shot and directed a few shorts for classes and had the opportunity to floor manage in the TV studio on campus. I’m pretty much a media junky.
Music also plays a pretty big role in my life. I’ve played the guitar and piano for 9 years now. I’d say I’m much better on the guitar. I used to write some awesome songs about teenage angst when I was in high school, now my guitar only comes out when drinking.
Even though I probably come off as an artsy guy, I'm also big into sports. Really just football and basketball. I'm a Patriots fan. I've also jumped on the Heat bandwagon. I like to be active and take any opportunity to play a sport with my friends. Recently I’ve been getting my GTL on, actually just my GL. It’s winter, we’re supposed to be pale!
I work an extremely boring, yet well paying job for Frontier. I do tech support for their DSL service. I love old people, but it gets frustrating trying to walk them through operating a computer. I cannot wait to be finished with school so I can start what I deem an actual career.
Also just a heads up, I'm a dog person 100%. Unfortunately my apartment doesn't allow pets, or my German shepherd would be here with me. My little brother and sister are enjoying her though, guess it works out. I'm not at all a fan of cats, I think they're sinister. They know it too. They always tend to want to rub all over me when I’m around them.
I’ve lived in West Virginia all my life and absolutely love it here. I’m a big fan of seeing the seasons change and we definitely get the pleasure living in this state. That being said I’m also very interested in traveling more. I’ve been to several places on the east coast but nothing further north than PA or west than IN. I’ve got a fascination with American history (I know, nerdy) and would like to see some historical sites. I also intend to travel to Europe within the next 2-3 years and see a few countries over the span of a summer.
I'm one of those people that believe "laughter is the best medicine". I really do though; I can't go a single day without laughing. Life is way too short to take everything so seriously, gotta have some fun.
