"Ordinary readers, forgive my paradoxes: one must make them when one reflects; and whatever you may say, I prefer being a man with paradoxes than a man with prejudices."
Jean-Jacques Rousseau
It is strange to me that despite the fact that we are all on here because there is something missing from our lives... be it love, sex, passion, spontaneity, many of us are still so set on finding the perfect match that we've allowed ourselves to fall victim to, what I like to call, the Disney paradox.
At a young age, girls are taught to expect their suitors to be princes or kings...handsome, clean cut, wealthy, chivalrous, strong, and willing to fight to the death for the one they love. As these girls develop and mature into adult women, these expectations are solidified by pop culture and peer reinforcement. This is fine and dandy until we take a deeper look at what this means.
Instead of realizing that everyone has their faults and imperfections, women think of themselves as princesses and queens who deserve only the most handsome, wealthy, and quite honestly, the most perfect man.
As such, we average men feel that we are lacking something because we do not fit the picture perfect Disney mold that women try to fit us into while the "above average" men feel that they are entitled to only the most perfect women.
And yet we still wonder why it is that at a time when it has never been easier to make a real connection with someone, it has never been easier to find someone who we can relate to, we are lonelier now than were the people in the 1800s who didn't have cars, let alone the internet and phones.
If we can't see ourselves as being imperfect or if we can't realize that our perfect match may actually be Shrek rather than Prince Charming or Fiona instead of Snow White, how can we ever expect to find happiness?
Lucile Dupin said it best; "The one and only happiness in life is to love and to be loved."
With that rant out of the way... lol I'll say a little something about myself.
I like to think of myself as an intelligent guy. I have post-graduate degree in Political Science (no...I have no intention of being a politician... That's for lawyers, crooks, and rich guys) and I'm currently applying for Doctorate programs in economics. I'm a pretty laid back guy (although I can seem a bit rigid depending on the situation)..I have dry sense of humor (occasionally raunchy) and I have no clue what's going on in the latest episode of ____ (fill in the blank). I'm not exactly looking to run away to Vegas to get married...really just looking for friends and letting fate decide the rest. I do have religious beliefs and I do sometimes practice my faith, but I am also a very flawed person and I believe that while my religion is important to me, that is something I can share with someone once we've established some type of a relationship (be it friendly or romantic). Publicly affiliating myself with my religion in some ways makes me a representative of my religion and considering I can't predict what I will say or do in the future, it's best to keep something to myself in order to protect the sanctity of my religion as a whole.
This might come shocker but my arm is sleeved and I'm not as square as you might think..(maybe I am lol). I'm sure I may have come off as being pedantic or maybe I seem like an ***hole but this is far from the truth. I am a very tolerant, forgiving, understanding, and loyal when I'm given the opportunity. If you've actually read all of this, you really should send a message.... even if only to tell me I need to get a life! haha
