My best friend calls me "Shmalvin." His name is Hobbes, and he's my BFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.
I went to GA Tech for undergrad and grad school, and have considered Hotlanta my home for over a decade. I'm pretty forgiving of all the other Georgia school attendees (you know who you are).
I have literally traveled the world three times over and lived in 4 different continents. Pretty cool, except traveling can actually get tiring (especially when you do it for work!), and often find myself longing for "home" - y'now, friends and family. Why would I ever want to leave these wonderful, fabulous people?
People I work with say I'm always smiling, all the time. In turn, the first thing I ever notice about someone is what their smile looks like. A good smile always makes someone's day or melts someone's heart or hides the secret fact that they're actually a super-hero.
I love playing the guitar and singing (very badly!). I love long runs when it's lightly raining. I love to feel the beautiful sand of the FL beaches burning the bottoms of my feet. I love sleeping (memory foam mattress, baby). I love eating all sorts of random things (goes with traveling the world).
I once went hiking up the Appalachian Trail for 14 days with three buddies and traveled a grand total of 12 miles (don't hate - 14 days of food is a lot to carry, and trust me, we ate like kings!).
I worked on development policies and played professional basketball in Africa for a year after grad school, lived 100 yards from the beach, and bathed with a bucket full of water when I could. Yes, I played pro ball before Jeremy Lin ever did (definitely message me if you know who that is), take that Jeremy!
This one time, I was a Captain in the Army, and I took 155 of my best brothers and sisters to Afghanistan for 12 months and brought every single one of them home (and sent four home early pregnant!), and somewheres along the way "made the world safer for democracy."
I have a tendency to drop everything I'm doing whenever a baby or super-cute dog enters the room. I'm not the least bit baby crazy, but I do look forward to being a father.
I have six really close guy friends. One year ago, 5 out of 6 were married. The last one and I talked about staying strong, staying true to the cause, spit on our hands, and solemnly shook hands; he got married earlier this year. Jerk.
I grew up super-poor in AL. I lived and worked on a dredge boat up and down rivers all throughout AL for a while (Huck Finn style). I got a couple scholarships to college and grad school. I've never picked up any debt or loans. But, I sure do look forward to paying for future kids' college education.
