Really? I want to go somewhere, I'm feeling the itch to travel, but I'm going by pickup truck and sleep under the stars, haven't figured out where yet or when.

I was just scrolling through threads and found this. Wonderful! I always tell people I really have no desire to travel abroad. Why?
1. Language barrier.
2. Safety. Americans are hated more than liked around the world.
3. There's a lifetime of things to do and see right here.
4. Our economy. I want to spend my money here at home.
5. My kids don't really get how far away someplace is unless you drive. We flew to Florida so it seemed like it was 2 hours away by car. Plus, it's really cool to drive and see everything along the way.

I would like to see anything and everything out West. 2014 trip planned but won't see everything. I've been all over the East Coast but only as far West as Illinois.
My dream is a Rail and Sail trip to Alaska.
I think that covers everything but the "who." Right now, my 2 kids and I.

Thank you, Rails.

I have not found language to be a barrier when I have traveled.

I do say travel America first. There may be some places which can compare around the world, but none as beautiful as

I have never found language to be a barrier, even when traveling within the USA.
Don't laugh, it happens......
I'm leaning toward traveling into the rockies this summer, either that or the Adirondacks of Upstate NY.

Now that's not a day trip!

It's a beautiful picture.
Something I like, I like the look of National Park hotels.

There is so much to see in the USA, I have been all over this country but I was working and did not stop to see the sights. I do plan on seeing a lot more of it as I don't drive over the road anymore. Now I can have a life and go see things. Two of the prettiest things I have seen were crossing Hover Dam ( just amazing) and the climbing the hill and getting on top and way off in the distance was a speck of light( has to be at night). Then you drive and drive and the speck getts bigger and bigger untill finally it turns into buildings and lights and then you realize that you have been looking at Vages for a long time. You can still cross the dam in a car or pickup but you can not in a large truck anymore. 911 changed all that.

There stood I, upon Hoover Dam ...
Awed by the grandeur .. all around.
Inspired by the immensity of it all
Making rigid my back .. and standing tall.

Just a speck in the scheme of things
Marvel, mystery .. my thoughts began to sing
For there, atop the world .. it seemed
Stood I embraced by an angel's wing.

So humble .. so silent .. so amazed
Never had such beauty met my gaze
There I stood upon Hoover Dam
Wondering just who I am.

Visit Minnesota, land of the lovely lakes, see the majestic moose.
A moose once bit my sister..... no, really!

Actually, I've never touched a moose, but elk, deer, black bear, bison..... yes.

Saru ~~

Yes. I have been to Minnesota -- as far north as Sandstone.

Many vistas of wide open places, pine trees, long strips of highway -- not to mention the big game -- the long winters ------- snow, snow everywhere --- blizzards --- and all that hazardous black ice. But beauty the state does have -- I have never had the privilege of camping there.

Neither have I, Cupocheer, but I did a lot in Upstate NY, especially the Adirondacks, had more than one close encounter with wildlife, rangers were bewildered about how calm I was and even let the animals sniff me while I stood perfectly still.
Virginia is nice as well, but I want to do some more travelling soon, probably will as soon as SSDI finally grants my case.
Thinking seriously of selling my house and turning into a snowbird.

The wonderful life of camping: your significant other, a sunrise on the river, and fresh trout for breakfast ...... can't beat that with a stick ... Unless it was in your own backyard.

My backyard is too small to camp in, all the space is out front because it is a corner lot, and the oak treets are protected by some old town law..... sheesh!
Trout is great for breakfast, so is prech, pike, carp, and especially smoked bluefish.
All that goes great with fresh air and a companion of quality.

I spent several days in the Finger Lakes region of New York this summer. It's a very beautiful place and was a very relaxing trip. Watkins Glen and the Corning Museum of Glass were the highlights. If you like waterfalls, this is the place to be.
