In light of the upcoming The Hobbit movie, I am curious to see how many people enjoy which of his stories over the others.

Ive read the hobbitt and the lord of the rings 15 times. Its one book released in three installments. I thought it was blasphemy someone would make a movie of it. Turns out he did an incredible job. Looking forward to the hobbitt movie

I liked Lord of the Rings over the Hobbit, But the Hobbit holds a special place
in my heart cause that was the book that started me on the journey of reading
some damn good fantasy books through the years.

I've read them all more than once through the years, but still can't decide which is my favorite. They're all good and I enjoy reading them even when I already know how it all ends.

The Simarillion, is an excellent book. My favorite. Has a slow start though. It precedes the events of LOTR (and obv the Hobbit) by a few generations and includes the creation of Middle Earth.
The unfinished tales is a whole other book that goes with it, and has more in depth detail about the events in The Silmarillion.

I grew up on The Hobbit and LOTR. They were bedtime stories for me before I could read, and a wonderful way to escape after I learned to read.

From what I've read, The Silmarillion was ok, The Lord Of The Rings was good, and The Hobbit was pretty amazing.

The Lord of the Rings is epic. The movies are masterpieces in their own right. But I used to keep my old copies of the books tabbed, so I could turn back to a particular phrase or passage.
<<<<
Frodo(to Gandalf on the road from Rivendale, from memory, know I'm going to brutalize it.): I wish that Bilbo had killed the creature, this gollum when he had the chance. If he had, he would not be following us, seeking to kill me now and take the ring.Gandalf:It was a small mercy. You can never predict how extending a small mercy will effect your future. Maybe this small mercy will make all the difference.
LotR taught my young self about courage and kindness. The Silmarillion second... It's an unfinished book, told in pieces. But it builds the lore and makes an already grand story...grandiose.

The hobbit of course, all the ring books. The history of middle earth, unfinished tales, the silmarillion, tales from the perilous realm, the children of Hurin. All great works.
