I'm not either one but you can find out a lot of information just online.
Just Google "converting to vegan" and see what comes up, there should be leads you can follow.

I am a vegetarian but eat poultry and fish. I just changed recipes from using ground beef to ground turkey. Also, just about anything you make with ground beef can be easily made with ground turkey instead. There are also meatballs, burgers, cheese and even something like chicken nuggets that taste like the meat ones. I've even tried veggie cheese and found it to be good.

If you like ham, you can get turkey ham. I'm sure there are vegan products that are similar as well. I would suggest you find a vegan site. It would have a lot of information for you.

You can use beans and cheese as protein in meals.

Good luck. Here if you want to chat or want me to research for you.

OP ~~ be sure to consult with your personal physician about your proposed dietary changes ... he/she is the best advice available source.

Hi,
You have had some good advice here. I went to vegetarianism a while back and the conversion is actually rather easy. I wanted to become vegetarian for health and spiritual reasons. I found doing a ten day juice fast helped me retrain my taste buds and I have never found myself wanting or craving meat since.

There is a wealth of information and recipes on line to research your decision. When planning your meals, you may want to consider if you want to substitute meat or if you want to simply celebrate the rich and vibrant fruits and vegetables from nature's bounty.

Best wishes to you for considering this wonderful change in your life. You can feel so much more alive when you cease putting what is dead into your body and instead nourish it with living material. Not that I would try to sway your opinion, but since I went vegetarian, I've lost 40 pounds, no longer need blood pressure medicine, have seen the arthritic bumps in my hands nearly disappear, and have more energy than I know what to do with most days.

Good Luck to you. Namaste

Namaste, Casyria ~~ Congratulations on your dedication and success with changing your dietary requirements. One thing thing that is being overlooked, and not mentioned, is the vital importance of protein in one's daily dietary regimen. Many illnesses, as well as body weaknesses (loss of muscle mass and strength, as well as issues with iron balances, among many others) must be taken into consideration. Supplements can help alleviate some of these major medical issues which is why one's personal physician is the best source from which to recieve this important medical guidance. No two people's body functions are exactly the same. What may work for one individual may not work for another. It is your health! Consult with your personal physician before beginning this important life-style change.

You can get some help from your personal physician, but sad to say they aren't really the best ones to go to, try talking to a good nutritionist-most of the area hospitals have someone who's usually more than willing to give you some good advice if they aren't already giving some classes.

It really depends on WHY you're becoming a vegetarian/vegan.
Health reasons: Find yummy substitutes, get all of your protein (eggs, nuts, legumes [whatever the f**k those are.], etc.)
Ethical Reasons: Cold turkey (no pun intended)

You may have some cravings but just have a veggie burger or something, and take your mind off of it.

I've been vegan for about a little over 2 years.....[i still eat cheese, drink milk on occasion, sometimes fish and eggs]

you will go through what is called withdrawal for about 3-4 weeks....being meat free requires mental/physical adjustment....you may even feel nauseous, or weak....but you will...adjust....

if you cook your own food, learn about tofu, vegan spices, veggies, nuts, beans and read labels that will show any meat products....if you buy food, ask for meat free....

Recipes read up on alternatives for your favorite things to eat and learn the recipes [you have to get used to them]
Tofu scrambled eggs actually isn't too bad....it almost tastes like the real thing...minus the yolk....but you have to add salty spices....
Meat alternative products [meatballs, breakfast sausage, cold cuts]
Veggie burgers you can buy also
Bean burgers [use as meatballs] are good too....you can make them ....some good recipes
pasta [egg free] is good too....
Soy milk is good also....[almond, coconut, etc in the grocery aisle by milk]

If you workout....beef up on nuts, beans, and tofu products....and get protein shake drinks....keep snacks handy

fruit juices are good, fresh canned fruits/veggies ...dairy free yogurt and products

I'm a vegan! It's hard to stay away from meat in foods, so I always make my cousin make my meals from vegetables and fruits

I agree with Godsbutterfly. Ground turkey all the way! I eat mostly fish, chicken, and turkey. Definitely google ways to make sure you get all the vitamins you may be missing in your new diet. (or use supplements). If you start the transformation slowly, you won't even miss the meats you used to eat and it's much better for you!! Good luck!

first thing u need to know is that vegetarians are allowed to eat things like cheese, eggs and other dairy products.
Vegans don't eat anything that came from, or is made with any animal byproducts.
Beans and tofu will most likely become your main protein source.
So, u will obviously need to like them.
morningstar farms(in frozen foods isles) has great vegetarian products such as various kinds of veggie burgers, imitation chicken patties, veggie sausage and other tasty products for u to enjoy while you're learning which meals u like and can find recipes for.
u can find great vegetarian recipes online.
I'm partial to Italian foods because whenever u make something parmesan style it masks the flavor of whatever protien u use.
many mexican foods are the same way

I steam -- so as not to lose the nutrients -- but I keep my protein level balanced.

Remember to compliment your non meat bases protein sources, so that you get a complete amino acid profile. Also, dont forget quinoa and buckwheat from your diet. Guys should avoid soy, women should eat more soy!

must help w decisions? my docs advised me not to make the change when i started just taking some supplements made of herbs, vegetables, etc because those alone seemed to help let alone give me a week or 2 leeway to discuss why after reading the right topics.

avoid the soy.
Being on a vegan diet, your hormone levels are already going to be out of wack..no need to add the phytoestrogens from soy into your diet to make your hormones go even more out of wack.
