We have such a short growing period up here - zone 2 - that if we do not start our seeds indoors then we do not have a garden. Unless we buy all our plants from a nursery and that can be expensive!
So I have started a 3 sisters combo (corn, beans, pumpkins) and lots of tomato seedlings which have finally come up! Yay!
This year I am going to try container gardening so when it gets cold late August I can just bring it indoors.
-30C here right now. Hard to believe it will ever warm up!
Happy growing every body!

How do I tell if I have non-GMO seeds?
Someone told me if the number 8 is in the bar code, then they are gmo....

If it doesn't say "round-up ready" you're good lol. On the home gardener level, very few GMO seeds are sold. All your major seed sources (SOC, Burpee, Gurney, etc) are mostly traditionally bred seed stock.

Then my seeds are organic.
And I only use natural stuff to enhance the soil.
Compost tea, worm tea and I hand-pick all the weeds.
This year I am going to try mulching to see how that works.
