Around the home you can plant spearmint, pennyroyal and sweet fern to repel ants.
Homemade baits - 3 cups of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 4 teaspoons of boric acid.
Can place crushed mint leaves or crushed cloves in back of cabinets to deter ants. Can also use mint tea bags placed in cabinets, drawers, etc.
Soapy water in a spray bottle will get rid of ants too. The only problem with this method is that you have to spray on a regular basis. I recommend at least once every two weeks.
Use equal parts vinegar and water to clean cabinet tops, windowsills and doorways. The only problem with this is not to use it on a floor. Indoor cats tend to "spray" when they smell vinegar.
Can sprinkle plain household salt on window sills, doorways, baseboards, etc to keep ants away. Be careful not to use this method and trap them indoors.
Can buy spearmint gum and place sticks of gum with wrapper open on window sills, back of cabinets, etc. Ants hate spearmint.
I am sure there may be other methods too. I do know the little ant bait squares sold in stores do work as well.
I have used each of these methods and not any particular one stood out to be better than another one. It is a matter of preference. Good luck!

Thanks for the info,I'm at my wits end with these ants.I've tried the vinegar and water.ya they die where you spray them but then the ones you miss live even after walking through it.I'm gonna try the honey and water..Will that stop the trail?

Boric acid power. Read the MSDS. You or your pet needs to eat 30 pounds a day to be harmed. people have worked an entire life mining it with no effects.
1/2 cup Karo syrup or pancake syurp (or any sweet drink) with a few table spoons powder. I put it in old water bottle caps and set them right on the trail. Only problem it takes a few days and the ants keep coming till they bring enough home to the queen ant. Other problem is the dog will lick them so they need to be out of reach.

Do a dance and stomp all over them and chant > GO AWAY !..lol
Hey.. I watched a TV program, that said " BAY LEAF " Hole Leaves or crushed up leaves and put were every they are making their trails in your home will deter them away. Good for indoor and outside use.
Also best to find their outside source or ant mounds and attack them there too. ( flow there trail to their mound. I just poor some gasoline or Kerosine down their mound hole, at first time one quarts will do, then later another quart if needed. Do NOT light it on fire.
Good Luck !

Boric Acid. Real cheap. @ $General store. Advertised as roach killer. Boric acid is an eye wash powder but collects oh hair follicals and is dragged back to ant nest & kills eggs.

I've got a crawdad problem in my garden, anybody know anything about getting these hole boring pests out of your garden.
A creek is about a hundred or more feet from my garden, but yet, these pests would rather bore holes all in my garden, and live there.

When the ground dries out they will move on or die. They aren't doing anything ... just trying to stay cool.
Look on the bright side ... the more crawdad holes you have in your garden the less hoeing you need to do.

Look on the bright side ... the more crawdad holes you have in your garden the less hoeing you need to do. Does make sense, but i had wondered if they're the cause of excess moisture in my garden,or if excess moisture brought them there.
Seems to be too much moisture for melon varieties, but corn and beans do very well, but anyway,i try to tolerate them.

use corn meal. its non poisonous and cheap to buy. Ants love it, but they can't digest it and will starve to death. it takes awhile to work.
