Yeah, but Reese,SHE could have been shot! But you are absolutely 100% right on taking after me...I remember when my neighbor shot a dog for walking on the street.I was so mad I walked rt up w that .12 guage pointed at my chest, saw the fear in that old man's eyes because I wasn't scared,I was PISSED,burnt the crap out of my hand grabbing the barrel and forcing the sob to finish the dog{I knew there was no saving it but it didn't need to suffer and was screeming w half its head blown off}.So yeah,Ive done stupid stuff like that, but still,Id rather the dog she saved die than lose her!everytime I THINk about it it just turns me inside out!

My little Rat Terrier Scout. You better not mess with him when he goes dumpster diving for empty icecream cartons.

She could have been, but she wasn't!! God was watching out for her! She has a good heart!
I understand how you feel also. Tell her that although animals are priceless, but that she is even more so!
But you have to admire her spunk!
That I do Reese, that I do.And sooo much like me when I was a child,a second spunkydoodle, though we share no dna...she's the daughter of my foster sister.
Thank you,Beth.
Btw ...I lost a kitten lastnight.I tried, it wasn't meant to be.But the other is going strong and foster kitty,Elvira, is nursing him with her own kittens.
Goodnews...{shhhh!Don't jinx it!}...Superglue tortie is not touching me...she's laying on the floor, relaxed and watching Jojo kitty getting slapped at by Mercy,Gracie and Tickles because he's wanting a wrestle buddy and they arn't in the mood.
Jojo was really cute lastnight.Mercy got stuck in the kitchen and began crying at the door.Charley told Jojo"You'd better go open that door for her"Instantly,Jojo jumped off of his lap and ran to open the door and let Mercy into the livingroom then, after giving her a quick but though check over, returned to Charley's lap. That blind lil' gal has this entire household wrapped around her lil pompon tail!Everyone caters to her.Humans, cats, dogs and wolves alike.Even the cripple dogs!Lol!
Oh,and I went out on the back porch to cry lastnight{not so much for the kitten, just the hurt of a lost friendship.}and was blessed by hearing my totem bird...I have a whipoorwil in the woods not but maybe 100 ft from my back porch!

Hm..OP asked for land predator..I think the hippo qualifies..Sort of.

When animals eat their young, it is usually done in defense. rather they eat their young, then let something else ravage them, it's their way of attempting to protect them. Also, if the Mother doesn't have enough milk to fed the whole litter, she will eat the smallest and weakest of a litter (it's called culling).
Whereas a child abuser hurts or starves a child purposely to cause pain and hurt, so it's not the same thing.
I find it interesting that pet lovers refuse to assign any negative qualities to animals.

@jaz....The only negative qualities I see in animals is the fact that they're animals; they have no reasoning abilities or that higher thinking ability of humans. What other qualities are you referring to? Just asking out of curiosity.

It's not just being a 'pet lover' as you so quaintly called me.
It is in studying animal behavioral science. It's as simple as that.
Animals do not have the capacity to think as humans think. They don't premeditate attacking a person or another animal. When they are giving birth, they don't think up ways to kill their babies, or hurt them. Under normal circumstances, they nurture and protect them.
Reese if you believe that animals dont do horrendous things just because you are denial. cats play with their food, wolves will taunt and chase prey, not every fight between animals is over food or sex or territory, sometimes animals are d*cks. If you want to claim you study animal behavior then please get another book than "why my pet is my best friend"
"under normal circumstances" humans nurture and protect their young too, but shit happens.
ANd yes it is about being a pet lover if a person consistently idolizes and enhances their perception of animals and focuses on the negatives of humanity.
