Here in Arkansas we have a cedar tree called (locally )salt cedars that will grow to a height of 12 ft in 8-10 years. This gives a 8ft post that's 2&1/2 or larger at the top and makes great fence posts.
I don't know if this helps you in your area.

Minx ~~ Cedar is one of the slowest growing hardwoods there is. Takes many decades for a cedar to grow to a size to be harvested.

Who would want to waste such a valuable natural product just to cut posts?

Story (true) Daughter and son-in-law had a huge row of age-old cedar trees on their property when the power company came through and made to cut back the huge trees, without property owner permission, so they didn't impede with the power lines.

WRONG MOVE power company!

S-I-L out the door with a 12 gauge and a stand-off was afoot.

Law enforcement called in. Big wigs from the power company called in.

Needless to say the cedars are still standing; unshorn.

Oh! BTW -- the power lines were on the opposite side of the road from my daughter's home. Go figure. Big business mentality.

Check with your forestry dpt. Don't know about your area but in VA red cedar can take over fence rows in just a few years.

Cedars are actually a "soft" wood. As a matter of a fact I can't think of any conifers that are considered a hard wood. Conifers are "cone bearing" like a pine tree, but some of the "cones" are little more than berries.

if you want the ants gone you're going to have to spend some cash, go to a supply store Menards some type of garden center, right at the top of my head I don't know the exact name but its a bag of white powder that doesn't burn your hands when you touch it or itch and if you apply it on the ground to where you can see it very visibly exactly were the ants are coming from and where their nest is located you will find after Amir 3 to 5 hours they will be completely gone and they won't come back
