I would have to know the full story to willingly date another felon. A friend of mine went away for nearly beating to death a pedophile and had a bunch of weed on him at the time. He is a great man and has done very well for himself, him I would date if he did not have a gf.

Hmm in my experience the only types of criminals whom don't kill their spouses are murderers. Ted Bundy didn't kill is wife, Johny Wayne Gacy didn't kill his wife, Robert Yates didn't kill his wife, Jerome Brudos didn't kill his wife, Gary Ridgeway didn't kill his wife... I could go on.
So what I'm seeing is... if I wanted to get married and NOT be murdered by my spouse I'd have to marry a sadistic serial killer. Whereas felons, and regular joes are more prone to killing their wives in the most brutal of ways.

I would have said no years ago until a really good guy I went to HS with was convicted of something he did not do all because of who he was around at the time. It is not that hard to get into trouble anymore and all it takes is someone lying. I think everyone deserves a second chance. I may not would date one simply because I know who and what I want, but I would not say they are not to be trusted, or dated again.

I'll start eminem....I own my home, I also have two cars paid for and I'm the only one who drives them, I work 16hrs a day/5 days a wk, I make $14 an hour, I come from a great home with both my parents still together ,not broken. No baby's mamas and no kids to support.

I refuse to buy a home since I prefer to travel freely and easily. Fyi I could buy a home if I wanted, especially in east bumblef**k nowhere such as in Texas where land is cheaper than Thai hookers.
I have one car, a brand new top of the line luxury model. I don't need two cars, I'm not a f**king moron.
I work whenever I want, sometimes I take a week off at a time just out of nowhere. I make somewhere close to 6x what you make. The last time I made less than $20 an hour, I was still in high school.
Both my parents are still together and very happy. No kids or ex gf drama. Both my siblings are doing just as good as myself (actually my brother is doing better, he's a f**king scientist for a chemical company, the bastard.)

My monthly car payments probably cost more than your mortgage. Why the f**k would I want to buy a home as a single guy? Now I have to worry about taxes, upkeep, selling it one day, being stuck in that area, etc. Homes are cheap as f**k. I can live in a much nicer place than Texas with less than a $10,000 down payment.

You have to do a little research and find out exactly WHAT that person has been convicted of. Not what they SAY they were convicted of. You have to see their record, maybe see court transcripts. I know several people who have DUI convictions, who are really great people. They've learned their lesson, which is how I met them (through my private chauffeur business). You can't trust thieves though, and people with a history of violent crimes should be avoided, I think... ALTHOUGH sometimes self-defense or defense of someone else is wrongly turned into a felony conviction. How about drug possession or racketeering? Let's say the person has been clean for years, but still has that felony record.
I think Ebony's question isn't so much related to the character of a convicted felon, though, but is about the PROBLEMS they have functioning in everyday life because of their felony record. The DUI conviction may mean this person currently has no driver's license. The marijuana possession or selling conviction means it's very difficult to get a job. To me, what matters most is the character of the person, not the legal history. If I'm dating a woman who can't drive, I'll drive. The "can't get a job" problem is an excuse, and even if there are fewer people who will hire her, that's a problem easily solved by self-employment. If you start a commercial window washing business, none of your potential clients are going to ask if you have any felonies or demand to have your Social Security number. All they want to know is how well you clean their windows and if your price is good.

I used to hire ex con's when I worked in food and I have as technicians. I was never "burned" they were some of the most loyal, honest and grateful employees I ever had and I didn't use them as slave labor as so many shops do, under paying them because they can for something they did when they were 18, and yes I might depended on what it was, what they've done about it and who they are NOW. As I am with almost any other scenario you can come up with. 
and don't forget travel, there's some places convicted felons cannot travel to. As I found out when a bunch of us from work took a cruise.

My ex was/is an alcoholic. He is a convicted felon because of three DWIs. (Nobody ever got hurt or killed, and he never hit anyone else. Telephone poles, however, seem to have kept jumping in the way.) I knew him when he got his first and second DWI, not around for his third, but dated him again after his conviction. He was fortunate to stay sober for ten years, and despite his conviction, he has a very good job.
I'd have to say it depended on what the conviction was for and the story behind it.

That is funny this topic came up...I just recently gave my heart to a man in prison who I love with every bit of my heart! However, today we called it good and not on good terms either! We love each other a lot but it seems to weigh too much stress on both of us! This isn't the first convict I loved in my time, by I officially am giving up on them...I'm not a criminal, in fact I am studying Criminal Justice...lol ya go figure! But when a convict is doing time and you love them, then you too are doing time with them...and that is irrelevant if you truly love them! If I say I am waiting for a man in lock up of any kind, that is what I will do faithfully...I surely wouldn't go to the extreme of cheating because the decision is mine and if I didn't feel they were worth falling in love with I surely wouldn't wait for them! Its pretty bad when my family tells me..."give yourself a chance with a guy who will support you and love you outside prison walls". They also ask me..."in order for you to date a guy, do you run a background check on them and make sure they have a department of corrections number or felonies on theirs"??? That is crazy huh lol!! But to answer the question at hand, yes a convicted incarcerated felon owns my heart right now and it hella sucks cuz we are not together anymore and I love him so much!!!

I got a felony when i was 17. And only because i was found to be of "sound mind" at the time of the crime. Had i been high or drunk i would have a misdemeanor and would have been ordered to rehab. Sometimes the system does fail. But i have made a success of myself anyway and never once used my felony status as an excuse to have no drive.

If you went to jail once and haven't been back for that same thing than you deserve another chance.
If you kept going to jail for the same thing over and over again than maybe you don't deserve another chance.
I guess it all depends on the reason they went to jail.
Some people are being convicted for things they haven't even done so does that mean they don't deserve someone.
