Ok, the law judge said that I am fully disabled. I am approved for both SSI and SSDI.
DATE of application: May 2011 sometime.
Judge ruled I was disabled on Jan. 2009
What does that mean?
I take it that regardless of how long it's been that I will only get 12 months minus 5 months for the waiting period of back pay right?
Am I doing the math wrong, not understanding how back pay works? I don't know the ammount per a month I will be geter, I just have the court order saying I am disabled and that I became disabled in January of 2009.
One other thing, SS did say that I needed to file a paper dropping the SSI claim for it was canceling / conflicting with the SSDI thing. That sound right?
Thanks:

All in all, doesn't really matter.
I just happy there is one less thing on my back and now I can live in my house rather wonder if I will have electric or not.

SS law changed about 3 years ago in regards to back pay, SSDI, and SS payments.
Contact your local SS office for correct and up-to-date information.

When I applied, I was told that you get back pay retroactive to the time you applied. Maybe it's changed but that's what I got. You may want to double check. If you filed through a lawyer, I would ask him. Don't take any chances.
Congratulations though!

The law on back pay has changed.
You may get back pay from the time the decision was finally reached --- or the Review Board made their final decision but back pay from the time of first filing of the claim is a thing of the past.
Check with your SS office.

I remember my step father getting his disability and when he did, they gave him back pay from 200 which ammounted to a lilttle over 40k.
My attourney says that due to congress changeing the rules, doesn't matter how far back you go, the max back pay anyone can get for SSDI is 12 months.
As I said, not a big issue, just one of those things I was wondering about seeing how I think 25 percent of that back pay goes to the attourney for there fees.

I went to the local office and I was overly surprised at what I found out.
First off, due to my SSDI being so high, it automatical killed the SSI and was creating issues with the computer system so I opted to remove the SSI out of the equation to move things faster.
What the case worker told be made my jaw drop.
I am to get $1,016 per a month and my back pay will be over $32,000 - max of $6,000 that will go to the attourney.
I was like, WTF and OMG all at the same time. Her all this time I was like maybe expsecting at most $8,000 or even $5,000 but apparently not.
Also, I should be getting a $500 check from Nebrask Child Support that was supposed to go to my mother but seeing how she is deseased, the money will go to me. Plus 50 bucks every month.
All I have to wait on now is Veterans Affairs to do there thing and pay me back the $10,000 I payed out to have my mother be in a adult care place during the time she was able to get Aid and Attendance but was in the final paperwork stages.
All in all, 2 things off my mind. What a load off.

u should be blessed for that amount of that money for each month. I m getting $677.00 per month from ssdi. They r taking $105 out of my ssdi income for medicare premium. That why I m getting $677 per income. I don't get any help from my state. I used to be on Food Stamps. They gave me $16 in food stamps for last 2 yrs. I had enough. Someone else could need that. So, I didnt renewal my food stamps in march.

Once approved, I thought disability is permanent. I got a letter saying they want to update my disability. So, I sent them my updated disability. Should I be concerned about my benefits?

HELLO, DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH YOU GET ON SSDI you may or may not get ssi,you can't have both, only in some states are you allowed to have both SSDI and SSI.like here in the State of michigan you can have Both, now if my ssdi check was smaller then the current SSI check for the month i could get both, but i make close too 400.00 dollars more then the current SSI checks for the State of Michigan. and i can't get both now.plus i get 200.00 in Food Stamps so thats really a big help too me. i hope this helps you out?.
i would suggest you go down too your Local Social Security Office and find out if you qualify for SSI,they are the only ones that can tell you if you qualify for SSI on top of your SSDI i hope this helps you out>
