Buy some neosporn with the pain reliever. Also buy your plugs on eBay. You can get a full set up to 00 for cheap. And if you choose to go bigger, go to Spencer's and buy some rubber plugs to stretch your ears more. It's painless and it works. I'm at a 7/16. But when you start stretching, pour as much neosporen in your ear hole and spike to smoothly insert it

I always soaked in the bath before I stretched mine. Buy some vitamin e oil too. It helps your skin when you're gauging.

I like to use weighted horseshoes. I also use screwlets and add the shoes through them. It helps make it easier to go up a gauge.

I recommend Amazon, because unlike eBay these are reliable sources from actual shops.
Do not ever stretch your ears with silicone or acrylic, and do not use tapers past a 00g.
Try to find titanium or steel. As stretched ears should be treated like a new piercing, however you should use triple antibiotic ointment to lube them as dry stretching hurts. Never force them in, it can cause blow outs or bleeding.
Wait at least 2-3 months I between each stretch. Now, I know it's addicting, I know once you slide in that 14g, it may not hurt and you can't wait to get to that 12g and so on, but for the sake of your lobes, don't.
Once you get to the size of 0-00g try to find some titanium plugs or tunnels, they're small, so they should be cheap. I can name a million sites, but Amazon will do so, for me. The reason being, tapers become heavy at this point and cause uneasy weight distribution to your lobes, as earrings would, they can cause your lobes to easily sag.
Treat them with (the cheapest) vitamin E oil. It makes for strong, thick lobes! Healthy ears are happy ears!
Just make sure you're ready for the commitment, and don't worry if they stink, that's the healing process.
Best wishes!

Note: Also, don't skip sizes. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but it is.
