Maine's Indians were a big help to America in the American Revolution. Native warriors from the Passmaquoddy, Penobscot, Micmac, Maliseet, and Abenaki helped America fight against the British. In fact, George Washington personally thanked the Passmaquoddy tribe for their support during the American Revolution.
So thank the Native people of Maine for helping America gain it's freedom and independence!

Yes, this is Little Bear. I respect your state of Maine so much because the Native tribes in Maine have a very strong presence. You all should be proud that the Native nations of your state greatly helped America in the American Revolution!

Hey Chief, thank you for reminding us of the service which your tribe gave. Yet that war was a long time ago... and members of the various tribes of this country have continued to serve in the last 2 point something centuries since that war... Iwo Jimo is just one landmark.
Your post is great though: at a time when everyone seems focused on our differences, you point out when we worked toward a common goal.
Are you headed to Maine? I confess that I don't know when the powwow is, although I live just 2 towns north.
If you're up this way let me know... I'll buy you a 
all of little bears posts always imply a level fo appreciation for a special interest group.

No, this thread is meant to remind people of Maine's Indians' contributions in the American Revolution to show that they did the same as the white and black residents of Maine during that time period. It is meant to promote unity because this will hopefully decrease any racism towards Indians in your state. Let all people see each other as brothers and sisters.
To the fellow from Lincoln, ME, I won't be able to attend the Passmaquoddy powwow. Same thing, I missed the Acadian Festival in Madawaska, Maine and I've always wanted to go to that.
And thanks for pointing out that Indians have served in all of America's wars including the more current ones in Iraq and Afghanistan.
My tribe, the Nullhegan Abenaki, is putting on a powwow called Nullheganaki at a state park in Island Pond, Vermont from Sept. 14 to 15. You can even camp out at the state park instead of getting a motel!

Cool info. The Wampanoag and Nipmuck Indians of Massachusetts were also helpful in the Revolution. In fact, wasn't Maine a part of Massachusetts in the late 1700s?
