What will be the weather like at Iowa on thanksgiving day? |

I'm planning to visit Iowa and other places in midwest, don't know yet, but what's the weather look like at this time of the year? Cold, freezing, chances of heavy snow?
I'm planning to drive, but really wanted to fly, but too much hassles with flying. I may have to bring a little dog with me on my vacation, also planning to stop by Missouri to visit some in-laws.
I can also rent a car, I guess to go around town, but if it snowing, it might be a problem, never driven a car in snow or frozen roads!
Any suggestions?

well that time of year is always a iffy time of year it could snow a little or a lot, it could also be sunbathing weather too well at least for us iowans lol. around here if a storm rolls in and you want to go somewhere hold off one day so they can clear the roads. if you arent a avid driver in the snow take it easy dont ever panic and dont worry about the other drivers. give yourself plenty of room to stop because the intersections can be icy and you could slide some remember dont panic. just remember your old school driving moves. when on the highways do not use cruise control it can be more of a hazard for you when you hit ice or snow on the road even water. you can always have someone from here drive for you if you arent comfy about driving in this kind of weather. has far as i know i am free to drive you anywhere you would like.
it also depends on what side of the state you are going to the western may get snow while the eastern stays clear. the winds are much stronger and colder on the western side too.
always remember to pack you a safety kit to bring along when traveling extra blankets, water, food that does not spoil. like those little cans of ham salad and crackers fresh fruit like bananas or something that could freeze but you can still eat. a snow shovel even if its a kids shovel it is to clear your exhaust so you can run your car every now and then till safety comes. candle in a fire proof holder you can buy some really nice camping candles and holders that will last you 4 hours at a time these will provide you with warmth along with light so you can read while you wait for help. make a sign to put in your window so someone will know that you in there and need help a red flag tied to your antenna will also make you car more visible if you went off the road. one last thing too is to keep your window cracked about a half inch that is it will stay warmer in your car. plus it keeps the moister out so your windows dont fog up or during the day it wont rain inside your car. the dryer you are the warmer you will be. bring extra clothes along so you can change into something that will keep you warm. make show you know where you are at and make sure your phone is charged up with a full battery. if you have a car charger bring it along just in case. cat little can be useful on ice to get you started moving. just remember DO NOT PANIC.

it would be safer then but you never know it could be 60 degrees here on thanksgiving. i would just watch the weather for up here check out the local weather stations up here in the area you will be at. what area are you going into maybe i can get you some local tv stations to watch when you are getting ready to travel and plan your trip that way. might even find you some numbers to call so you can ask them. or maybe tweet them or fb them.

Probably will change my mind! LOL! And will tell my in-laws in Missouri "forget it!" I will probably not go to Iowa either!
Maybe I'll go to Oregon instead and meet my sister's classmates! She's been asking me to visit them. They always get these huge stone crabs and Alaskan crabs. Both husband and wife are retired. They've been to Florida and they don't like it, too hot for them! So they ask me if I can come over instead!

missouri doesnt get the winters like iowa does, so i dont see why you cant go visit them and if it the weather is good in iowa make a trip up to see your friends there then move on to oregon and visit your friends there too. would love ya to come visit our state we are very friendly people here. and even in the winter time there is still pretty neat places to visit.

Are there any mountains in Iowa? I looked at google earth and all I see is vast flat of land.
So what are the things to do in Iowa on winter time!
My in-laws are moving back to N.Y., wanted to see them before they sell their house. Tough times for several people, especially those folks in NY, can't get out of real estate unless the property has a sight to die for!
I was told that Wisconsin, Wyoming are nice to visit. It's a toss for me right now!

there are so many things to do in the winter time it is just what do you want to do that is the question.
does iowa have any mountains? the answer there is no but if you talk to the people who ride there bikes through iowa every year from colorado and wyoming and other mountains areas they all say this "we have mountains from where we come from but you guys have MOUNTAINS." they are just saying our hills are steeper then their mountains.
i really hope you come and visit and enjoy our state either in the winter or summer it doesnt matter it would just be nice to have you come visit.
