Texting On A DATE, do you think it's rude? Well here it goes if it's important then i dont think it is it's understandable but on the other hand if its not then it would be rude i think in my opinion...when you date a guy/girl what is the first thing that comes to mind? When on a date seeing him/her texting another guy/girl (opposite sex from them)?
Maybe some people don't mind but to be realistic if your on a date with someone you dont go texting other female or guy i feel that should wait until after the date is done.. The first thing that would come to my mind is "not interested" or "they want a piece of ass" this is my opinion if you had or what if it had
What would you do and how would you feel about it?
Just a curious question.

Rule no. 1 is to have full attention to the one you are with! If there is something really important, seek to explain first - but why not wait until the date is over..?

I never have my phone on me when I'm on a date, I'm not that important that I need to be connected all the time. It's a nasty habit. If a woman is checking her phone all the time on a date I say something. I'm not down to hang out with someone who doesn't realize that it's rude. Especially on a first date. I can see if she's on call for work or has a sitter at home, but not to text her bffs about how great I am. (Like, duh). She can text all she wants on her walk home after she gives me a good night handy. I'm a gentleman, you see. Texting while dating = rude.

Right! It is a turn off
Everyone deserves a full attention on a date especially the first date rather the dating is serious or not there shouldnt be texting i believe it definetly can wait until the date is over
And what i dont get is that they still expect to continue to want to date you and for what to do it all over again its such a waste of time and effort to date someone that is not exactly with you because their mind is on their phone texting to some other person it is very disrespectful

my phone remains on silent in my purse. i will go to the restroom and text my friend that everything is ok, if it is a first date. if you are on a date, give them your full attention.
if your awaiting news about something major, friend having surgery, etc. excuse yourself to the restroom and check your voicemail. but otherwise let it wait...

Rude, rude, rude! After it has happened a couple times on the same date, I just leave and let them wonder what happened and if they call( usually don't) I will tell them that they were with me and not whoever was on the phone.
Yes I know that I am not the best looking person in the world but I am not the worst either, I work to hard for my money to spend it on someone that wants to be in two or three places at the same time.

If someone is expecting an important call they should tell you before the date begins so you aren't shocked or insulted in the middle of your date.
But seriously, how often does that happen? I guess it just depends on your interpretation of important. Maybe his mom wanting to know where his boxers are while she's doing his laundry is important.
Personally I think cell phones and the like are like little black hole on the face of the earth sucking the ambience and peace out of almost all environments. People talk too loud, they block your way when they stop to text and basically have lost their social graces. Bizarre little lost sheep.
Good point
yeah everyone is using texting nowadays including driving and everywhere else. Also they rather text than call , by texting people are just focusing on their phone more than whats going on around them
So any how it can be rude no matter where your at either your holding up traffic ,stopping in front of people or on dates instead of excusing them selves to pull off to the side of the road, go to the bathroom , move off to the side let everyones else go or all of it can JUST WAIT.

Obviousily you didn't get what i was trying to say... I said texting the opposite sex while dating
Meaning your on a date with a man and he is texting other female or vice versa.., ofcoarse when it comes to a single mother dating your daughter comes first its common sense but whats the whole point having a babysitter is to watch and take care of your daughter while your out on a date unless if was something important like she got hurt or something but if your a concern parent you can always excuse yourself from the date and go to the bathroom and also check up on your child theres always a way around it ..
Instead of texting in front of your date and Just keep in mind the date is not all about you, its about him too
the whole point of dating is you learn about each other to see if you both click as a couple..

Yeah, it's rude. If someone does that to me I just start talking a lot saying things that don't make sense to see if they are even listening. Odds are they're not.

I a. Sorry to disagree with you, Miss Wow...hehehehe
As long as this individual tells me why they are texting, and to whom, I would be pleased about it. Plus, it tells me a lot about the person.
For example, if the person is texting a reply to a friend on making arrangements, than, ok, this was rude.
But think on the another situation, it could be something serious...will you say, you were rude to not listen to me?
If explained why, I am quite alright with it.....hehehehehe
Well, I'm talking about those texting addicts who text non stop. I really dont like it when someone is supposed to be having a conversation with me but instead they are texting about what they wore on the date that they are still on or texting about some game from the night before. If I give someone my attention 100% I expect the same. It is a totally different story if there is an emergency or something of that nature though.

I leave my phone on.
I have a minor child that may need me for something.
I would excuse myself if he called or texted me.
I would explain to my date.
Any emergency calls would be excusable too.
Work calls excusable.
Random text responses to friends, family and tweets....no way.

Texting on a date is very rude......put phone on silent and put away.....only time you should ever use the phone is if your calling someone to explain that your ok if necessary. Why wouldn't you put your full attention on that individual? That makes them wonder why you even bother with them in the first place! Manners have gone out of style these days it seems.

My phone is on silent most of the time and I'll check it if it lights up bu. They can clearly see what's up.
I keep mine up for my daughter and emergencys. I just don't have on going convos..

Since most people here say it's rude, it's also safe to say that the same people, in the past, have texted during a date for reasons other than an "emergency."

Texting, calling, is rude on a date..think about it ...would you really want it done to you... When you get on the phone you're telling the other person they are not important enough to spend time with them...or that there's somewhere else you'd rather be...if you're with someone you're suppose to be with them,,, not them their phone and everyone in it....
