Don't think I've ever been to a barn party, definitely sounds like fun too, maybe we should have one of our own? what would be needed, besides a barn

Just a good sound system, friends or family bales of hay, and a few boards. Some type of heater for the barn. A hay wagon and small tractor for hayride. Even a good live band. We used a big horse barn. Put up hay nears walls.cleaned the floor off in center of barn for dance floor and starte w steppin and other good country dancing steps. Have 3 nice wood burning stoves.going and was nice and warm. Then had hayride with blankets. Of course we had alcohol for adults and pop for kids. Etc nice time

The few times the haymow floor was bare, it was real slippery, almost smooth as glass it seemed. We would run and slide quite aways. Uncle used to have the swinging rope in the haymow and piles of loose hay, swing and drop into that, was fun. You were sweaty and the hay was itchy and went everywhere, but still fun.
I imagine that's not the type of barn you are referring to. Needed a ladder to go up. I do remember my parents talking about barn dances, typically held when someone built a barn when it was new and still clean, that was so many years ago. The regional dance halls are gone too. Did get to a few shed dances. Some were dirt or cement floor. Family, friends, and neighbors gathered, brought food and played the radio. Tables set up for card games, kids running all over, both inside and out. All of this was so many years ago. Haven't had that kind of fun since.
Sledding parties in the winter were fun too. Somebody usually had a good hill. Sliding for hours, then time to go home. I used to take the kids sledding at the local hill in town. When they were older, it was out to the pasture. It was bumpier, steeper, drifts/cliffs and more trees, so there was a challenge to it. Last time we went, it took a while, but we finally were able to jump the creek and miss the trees.
