Hey ladies, sorry this is a little long but just giving details.

Ive been having a problem with my neighbor friend. She's real nice but also VERY demanding. If she calls my house/or cell and I'm not able to answer or just don't feel like talking, or eating, or involved in a movie then she'll txt me...Tried to call you but you WOULDN'T answer your pho. I told her my house pho stays on silent but if I see it light up I'll answer it as for my cell, I might be asleep, working on stuff, busy at moment or on the other pho. She acts like if I don't drop everything & answer she gets mad.

Also, has a baaad habit of driving down to my house & BLASTING her horn for 5-10 min. She's woke me up doing that & other times I'm either showering, eating talking on other pho & I've flat out refused to go outside when she comes honking. She's been in my house visiting several times which is fine by me. But for about the last year she's just been honking for me to come outside...she won't get out like normal people & knock on door just honks her horn expecting you to come out to her. This isn't curb-side service here.

Was getting out of shower and she was honking relentlessly, I opened door & motioned for her to come in...instead she shook her head No & motioned for me to come out! One day recently I was on pho with doctor office and she called 12 times in a row...my cell & house. I didn't answer cause I was handling important business. I finally answered my cell & said What is it?? I'm tryin to take care of business here...she says call her when I'm done. I said OK, I'll call when I'm done! 5 minutes later she comes inside my shut gate and starts blasting the horn, I opened door & pointed to my pho cause I was still on it. She said Call me when done & I just slammed the door and went back to my business on pho. I called her when done and it wasn't nothing important.

You would've thought her house was on fire or some emergency but it wasn't. I've hinted around to her that somebody else comes honking the horn and expects me to come outside to them & doesn't knock on door and that it ticks me off bad. But she doesn't get the hint, guess she thinks it doesn't apply to her. When she came honking again this week...I did NOT go outside, I think its just flat out rude. Told her I had a migraine & thanks for honking & making it worse...but she continues to do it anyway. I don't do that to her or anyone. The times before when I went outside, I'd tell her get out & come inside to visit...she replies I don't have time, but will sit there comfy in her car while I'm standing out there with my bad foot killing me or freezin to death.

Sooo...I'm going to make a sign & something like Quiet Zone=Plz do NOT honk horn. Anymore sign ideas? I don't wanna be too rude but this blasting the horn the whole time & too lazy to get out has gotta stop. I actually padlocked my gate this wknd to keep her from inviting herself in even tho gate closed. Most people see a closed gate & respect that. Anybody got some sign ideas? I'm making one with stick on letters. I don't want to alienate her but she doesn't respect other people's boundaries esp letting her self in my Shut gate & blasting that dang horn...it needs to stop Grrrr

What do your surrounding neighbors think about her nonstop honking? If they are also being disturbed, you could stage a group meeting where several of them including yourself tell her to knock it off.

None have mentioned it that I know of...I live really rural with the nearest neighbor bout almost a mile away. I've been with her before & she does that to her own grown son & did it once with another neighbor waaay down the road. Just drives up and honks & expects you to come to her.

Your right Miss Packers...
she shoulda got the hint when if someone doesn't answer their cell or house pho it means they are busy, don't feel like talking, not home...whatever the case might be. But she will call my house & cell & back & forth like she's Demanding I answer, then says I "wouldn't" answer my pho. Then drives down to my house honking!! I sometimes park around back of house in garage so my truck isn't visible. She will drive around back to see if my truck is here, like she did last week. Another time, I was home & she kept calling the house/cell...I was involved in a movie & damn if she didn't drive down to my place 10min later honking for 5min. Then she txt me...I told a friend picked me up & we went shopping...(I know I lied) but it was about the only thing that kept me from going off on her. Hate to lose the frienship, she is a nice person but waaay too demanding that I answer her each & every call. Since I'm pretty rural, kinda need to be on good terms with neighbors(she lives 1 mile) away.
But yet don't demand me to answer or just drive up & start honking like a crazy woman & can't be bothered to get out & knock on the door...

That's why I was thinking...make a sign that gets the point across without coming across as rude. If I call someone I just leave a msg or txt and thats it...I don't drive to their home & demand they come out...I'm digging my heels in like a mule on this one. I don't want to get confrontational about it so that's why I was thinking a sign.

No Honking Zone
Quiet Zone...do Not honk horn
?

I so agree with Miss Packers! My neighbor was a friend, but it totally crossed the line!
I've had other neighbors that were out of line too. I hate to be mean because it's really nice to have neighbors you can count on.
Unlike me, you really should address it. It would be sad if you had to "cut her loose" if you consider her a friend.

Yep, its good to have be on good terms with neighbors esp living rural as I do. I will say this for her...when I had gallbladder surgery, she sent her housekeeper down here to clean my house, brought me food everyday & helped me feed my horses since I coulnd't lift anything heavy. Then I had pulmonary embolism from a dvt/blood clot in my leg, she came to see me in ICU and when I got out she came over for awhile & we'd have coffee in the mornings and sit outside overlooking my pond. She's a retired nurse so that could come in handy if I got hurt or something. But with her 'demanding' me to answer pho or coming down & blasting the horn till I come outside to her is just really getting old & don't know why she's been doing this for almost a year so its kinda made me distance myself a lil if that makes sense.
The times I've gone outside...I've always invite her to get out & come inside to visit but she says She doesn't have time but will sit in the car 45min-an hour...We coulda been inside sitting on a comfy couch ya know?
I have a heel spur and standing in one place like that makes it start hurting, I tell her come in, my foot is killing me but it goes in 1 ear & out the other.

Yep...I hate to be rude to her but yet its pretty rude calling house/cell 12x in row demanding me to answer...I keep my pho on vibe alot or silent if sleeping & I've told her that. House pho almost always on silent but if i see it light up I'll answer it if I'm not involved doing something else. That's why I was thinking I just need some good slogans for the honking sign I gotta make. Don't want anything rude, just something that will make it stop...

Yep, ms packers I will. I still need some ideas on what to say on sign that's not rude.

Living rural its best to keep on good terms with your neighbors, never know if you might need them for help or keep an eye on your place if your gone etc..

She text me Monday just normal nice texting back n forth. Then she txt...I saw you had company today. My house sits waaay off the road but she doesn't miss anything. Kinda felt spied on a lil. I parked my truck on other side of house in garage, its not visible from the road

Remember, although rudeness is usually the wrong approach...some people need to be taught, directly and "on their faces", the biggest lesson of their lives. Your friend is one of those people.

Recently, a lady of my acquaintance complained to a mutual friend about me not looking at her face when talking to her. She said I was rude. Well, I called her and said -directly and to the point: "You are offended because I don't look at you when conversing...and I am a lot more offended by your halitosis."
I don't know if she will talk to me again but I was told by another friend she has seen her doctor about "digestive problems".

I always say "Why do I have to be polite to those who are not polite with me?

**Update
well yesterday evening she called my cell then my home pho. Left a msg saying...Well I called your cell & you won't answer, I call your home & you won't answer. I'm beginning to think you don't answer on purpose, Idk...maybe its just me u don't wanna talk to? wanted to see how you're doing.

((I was outside filling my birdfeeders, then came in took a shower, fixed supper & just sat down to eat & I saw the answering machine lit up with that msg. Hell, I don't keep a phone strapped to me at all times and that's what a machine is for...leave a voicemail. But if i'm doing something and don't answer I got that msg above.)) Grrrrr

So I txt her...I'm doing ok. I was outside filling birdfeeders, took shower, made supper & just sat down to eat & get caught up on Game of Thrones & noticed machine lit up. I DON'T keep phones attached to me when I'm busy doing stuff, people can leave a msg. I'm not 'on call' for anyone. That's what voicemail is for. Other than that I'm doing fine, then she said ok, was checking on you...I was gonna stop by. Told her was in shower & I've been getting settled in for the night earlier bout 6-7 & that I hated the time change.(which is true)

Uh oh...I just realized I left my gate open today...hope she doesn't drive down here blasting that horn...I haven't got my sign made up. Just been keeping my gate shut/or locked.

Thanks Cinnamon...I will.

She is the type that answers the pho regardless to say She's busy or Let me call you back. I'm thinking...If ur busy, just don't answer. I can leave a msg, that's what its for. Even if she's already on the pho and someone calls she'll change over and say let me call you back. I tell her...just let voicemail get it, it will pickup even if ur on the phone...sigh..

But yeah I txt her above in my post above yours what I was in the middle of doing & don't keep house & cell attached at all times. They can leave a msg. I don't understand why she is sooo demanding that I answer each & everytime. I got a life too ya know?

just hope with me forgetting to shut my gate today that she doesn't drive down and start blastin that horn again. Im getting caughtup on the 3rd season of Game of Thrones..last nite I fell asleep during the marathon. Thank goodness they have it on again tonite! I better not fall asleep this time...and I'm not answering pho either, gotta get caught up before they start the new season next week...lol

Quote from cinnamonhaze:
(I tried to stop that post before I finished, but it wouldn't let me edit, so here goes)
Sometimes when you live in the country, it's just not wise to alienate your neighbors. You just never know when you're gonna need them! You may just end up with your butt in a sling if you have a blizzard (eh hmm), or a power outage, or your car or tractor breaks down, or your cow kicks you in the head, or you have an axe stuck in your leg & it takes 911 45 minutes to an hour to get to you! And sometimes you just need to borrow an egg.
Where I'm from, you start whining to the sheriff because you're having a "neighbor" problem, they're gonna put you on their IGNORE list (like the little boy who cried wolf). In the country you just need to put on your "big girl pants" because the cops don't like it when they have to drive 45 minutes to deal with someone whining about something as petty as a rude neighbor!
Annoying is one thing. Law enforcement & being a total b*tch is another thing. That's why city people don't last long around me. I'm an exception. It's give & take & trust me, my neighbors have saved my butt just as many times as I've saved theirs! Boundaries are fine. Pissing off what may end up being your life line is something totally different! In the country you can't just lock yourself up in a little apartment & hop on a nearby bus or train.
Something to think about......

Yep, this is true. I don't want to alienate her, she's nice etc...and would have my back if needed. Just very demanding on calling or driving down to my house & honking for me to come out to 'her'. I invite her in & she'll say she doesn't have time but will sit in her car talkin for 45min...while I'm standing out there on a bad foot/heel spur. I have no problem if she wants to knock on door, come in & visit. But don't honk for me to come outside, I could be taking a shower etc...meanwhile my dog is going ballistic inside cause he hears the blasting horn. Think she does this to other neighbors too, I was thinking a nicely worded Sign posted with my other signs I have like Private Property and just post something like Quiet Zone...Do Not honk horn placed under it.
Maybe?...she got the hint when I txt her the reason why I didn't answer the pho, I was showering, cooking dinner and just sat down to eat when I listened to her message & didn't keep my phones strapped to me when I'm busy

It's sad. Just so very sad that in today's world, as a woman, if you stand up for yourself, draw a line in the sand, put your foot down, that automatically makes you a B*TCH!

My neighbors. Crap, all of them! I have no children. Zero. None. Not of my own. Not adopted. Not step. Not even a foster. Yet my neighbors all seem to think its perfectly acceptable to send their children here AS SOON AS ANY VACATION BEGINS!?!?!?

This morning, as soon as I let my dogs out, it's like I put up a big freaking "OPEN FOR BUSINESS" sign.

I'd like to have some coffee. I'd like to take a shower. I'd like to potty. With my animals I don't get a minute for myself until after at least 45 minutes of running. Now I'm supposed to be ready to entertain the children too???
(these are the very wealthy neighbors who treat the house here as a cabin. they owe me money - lots of money - for my tractor. I'm behind on my mortgage because of them. I need my lawn mower fixed. Their "friend" was supposed to fix my car. That was until I made it perfectly clear that there would be no FWB included, but I would be very happy to pay when these people pay me what they owe me!!!)

Sam is going to be having a very bad day. I gotta call off that tractor deal. I am in no position to keep on floatin a loan for very rich people when it's sinking me. Then I have to tell them that I am not & will not be a free day care service. So yes, today I will be getting called a b*tch because I have to put my foot down, reclaim my life AND my money.

I wish I could move!
Funny thing is, I was here first! I bought the original farmstead. The rest of the people around me bought small parcels of land. These are not the first neighbors with "parenting" issues - or dog issues. I love love love dogs, but when they torment my cow I gotta draw the line!!!
Plus, hubby left me so much debt, I'm gonna be married to this farm for a while.....

I did send a nice early (4:18am) wake up text about the dog though. If I get woken up at 4am so is the chick with the unruley dog!!!

I do love the title of that book though!

OMG! The neighbors - the ones that owe me $3,000+ just drove in with a brand new full size SUV!

I'm waiting for them to PAY me so I can get my 1999 SUV & my lawn mower fixed.
Maybe they'll have the Porsche delivered tomorrow???
I really need to grow a pair when it comes to my friends/neighbors/boyfriends.

Now, if you didn't just hear what I said listen to this. I'll kick you azz back up the street to where ever you came from if you honk the blasted horn in front of my house one more time".

its pretty bad that you have to lock up your gate each and every time you come in and out but perhaps that's the best thing to do to keep from having her holding her horn every time she comes down there.

Just a suggestion, perhaps you could type up something in large text saying that please do not honk your car for me to come out I am sure I am just reminding you that I do have a bone spur on my foot is painful for me to come in and out the door when . I find it extremely rude when a person just sit in the car and honks instead of being courteous and respectful enough of a person's time to go up to the door and knock. If something is important enough please leave a message on my answering machine or my cell phone and I'll call you back. I am NOT on call to anyone. I do appreciate you going out of your way and helping me when I was ill before, however I believe that any type of friendship that we possibly could have is being damaged by your behavior of constantly honking not coming up to the door expect me to come out there and the constant telephone calls where are you call over and over and over again within a very short period of time. I would be more than happy to discuss this with you if you would just take the time to come to my door like a normal person then we could sit down and discuss this face to face. my intention is to not to hurt you but to inform you of how a real friendship should be.

^^^^^
Agree!!!
I grew up in the city. People would always call ahead & not just pop in. Now living in the country, no one calls! Everyone seems to believe I'm at their beckoned call when ever they feel like it. I've had odd work hours & these people know it. Yet they have no problem popping in even if I have to leave! I won't answer my door unless my dogs are out - then I have to. That means I have to stop what I'm doing & chase them. (because people drive in here like its a freakin freeway!)
I've put up a saw horse in my driveway that says "STOP HERE!!!" & they drive around it - ON MY LAWN! (my older dog is deaf & nearly blind) Not only are they so rude & LAZY that they drive around my sign, then they sit in their damn truck & blow that horn! So now not only do I have to go out there, but I also am chasing my younger dog in circles around their stupid truck!!! Grrr! I had a job where I had to punch a clock & if I was late, I got written up. So then I'd find myself speeding to make it to work on time!!!
The moral of this story is that most people today are self absorbed & have no manners! If I could afford it, I'd install a 12' rot iron fence to go around the entire farm with a loud speaker to tell people to go away & don't come back unless they call first!

Well if that's what they do even with the saw horses up, you better believe I would lock the gate ALL OF THE TIME!!

As it turns out, I don't have a neighbor problem, it's a ME problem! I need to grow a pair!!!
Yesterday I agreed to watch (a different) neighbor's 2 small children for a few hours. I picked them up at 9am Thursday. Well, day turned into night, & night turned back to dawn. I didn't hear from her until 6am on Friday. I had to sleep on my loveseat (because I was worried about them wandering outside). I got 2-1/4 hours of sleep! Then I had to start my first day at a new job at 9am. WTF is wrong with people???

Quote from funamericanhuny:
its pretty bad that you have to lock up your gate each and every time you come in and out but perhaps that's the best thing to do to keep from having her holding her horn every time she comes down there.

Yep...I don't do that to her. I just call & leave msg...never drive up and blast the horn expecting someone to come out to me. You get out and knock on door not other way around.

Any ideas on a sign?

Well here's one!
I was just rudely awoken. It's midnight here. I've had a fever of 103 (give or take) for 7 days. I have bacterial pneumonia from breathing in dust/mold in my hay loft on that one incredibly hot day. I can't get into the doctor until Thursday.
I can rarely sleep (aches & pains, sweating & freezing, & a very severe cough), so tonight I took a Vicodin to help with the pain so i could get some much needed rest. All of a sundden I'm woken by my younger Bloodhound just bellering at the top of her lungs. I figure it's some animal outside. Then I hear knocking - on my WINDOW!!! It's a guy I haven't seen in years. I say (through the window), "Randy, I'm sick. I have a fever." Wanna know his response??? "I'm not afraid of you." And I'm thinking, "You SHOULD be!!!" (grrr!) So I say, "I gotta work in the morning." Seriously? Now I need MORE than one reason NOT to want company at MIDNIGHT???
So much for that oh so needed sleep I almost got. Now I'm wide awake & furious. Shouldn't the FIRST clue have been that I didn't answer the DOOR? Now it's ok to bang on my windows? Really?
What is wrong with these people in this back assward town? Plus all the people who have recently been SHOT for startling someone in the middle of the night. They should be very happy I'm not some "trigger happy" b*tch.
Now I'm wide awake. I was finally getting one night of good sleep. I really need a 12' fence around this place. Or a moat!!! Grrr.

I'm sorry that you have to deal with such a rude neighbor.

This is why I don't talk to my neighbors I am not a Dr and on call whenever you feel like conversation or need something. If it's an emergency maybe you should call 911.

I might seem like an a** but I'm a very private and secluded person and I'm guarding my sanctuary.

Good luck.

I hadn't read all of this earlier when I posted. All I have to say is you poor ladies.

For the honking neighbor I would sit in front of her house and blast my horn until she came out and call her at the same time. If she answered the phone to say I'll call you back I'm on the other line, I would call her back anyway, every couple of minutes. I would keep honking and sit in my truck for 45 minutes while she stood there. Everything this woman did to me would be done right back until she stopped answering her door and her phone. Some people only learn by tasting their own medicine.
