I love grey hair on a gent and I've seen some ladies that have pulled it off nicely, but would you have the guts to ditch the dye and simply go grey?

I 'kind of' like it. It's a silvery grey against dark hair.

This forum can be overtly brutal in it's honesty. One reason I'm asking.

What are your thoughts on this type of look?

My hair is slowly turning grey. The reason I can't dye my hair anymore is because I have a spot on my head from brain surgery that hasn't completely healed and gets irrated very easily. I have to use a special shampoo and medicine for the spot so it doesn't get red.

I'm beginning to turn grey at the temples and along the crown I have some strands now. Eh, it doesn't bother me but I'm also not actively pursuing a mate right now. I'm middle aged and not hiding that fact even if I were to be.

Thanks ladies for your input, I suppose it is very subjective in regards to preference.
Xasha you've got a great mane, and Texas_girl just being natural 'can be' very attractive.

I don't mind looking my age and a bigger deal to me than going grey is the all out obviousness of trying to look almost too young, hence the things I see woman my age do.

I'm toying with this idea, verdict is still out but thank you for your responses!

I dislike the actual texture of grey hair more so than the color which can be attractive. It has a wiry feel to it. That may just me though. I think as we age it might be safer to go softer around the face. High contrast can be very unforgiving and accentuate shadows and wrinkles. Usually salons will do a consult with you and get it sorted.

You're right, it is wiry...(?)...as well as getting tougher to dye.

I'm one of those believers though that nature got it right to begin with, some dye jobs do not do justice to a woman's skin tone either, my hair picks up red when tinted, naturally it has gold flicks to it, dye is never 'natures' perfect.

Oh well.

At 56 desided to go all silver, with blonde hilights.Changed hairstyle to a page long cut.No 3 week coloring whoo hooo now 1 time every 6 months for hi lights.I had started coloring at 30,for me it was time to quit, and accept Silver hair. Most think i'm a blonde. But it was more of an ajustment for people I know then for me.

I love the new me and my new longer style,Flat iron ends under , spray and go!

I have a good bit of gray in my hair, and I love it. I'm a grandmother; I've had three careers; it suits where I am in my life. I've never tried to cover it up.

The greys I had in my head were nice but for some reason have become wild. I had my hair highlighted to blend in the grey and it helped a lot.. I have my hair flat ironed every two weeks and use products of good quality to keep wild hairs in place.

I don not have grey hair yet, even though I think I see some.No confirmation yet, could be a light reflection.A Natural grey on men or women looks nice--but all these wigs and dies drys out the hair.many men dressing as woman, yet walk as a man-obvious odds.

I think it looks really good on you because it's all uniform and very shiny. I'm not sure but I think there are special shampoos you can use on silvering hair to make it look really nice and sparkly. It sort of intensifies the light reflecting properties in silver/grey hair. That might be a better option than fighting it really. Just work with it instead.

I have been using Nexxus Therappe, ultimate moisturizing shampoo. It seems to keep the silver brighter.

Yes ,it has been far less costly to buy Nexxus, than to have colored it all these years.

Also to get a nice wave I braid it.

Your's is so pretty and getting so long too!!

Thanks. It's good 21 inches now I think just judging by where it falls in relation to my bra strap. The only reason it has gotten so long is I'm too friggin' lazy to go for regular trims. At the longest I had it about 24 but like that last 4 or so was just straggle and breaking the ends splitting.

Mine's a little over 24 inches, but needs a trim too.

My daughter Sarah just cut hers, it was longer than mine. She donated it to the Locks of Love place in Fairmont. They have a branch of the mayo clinic there and you can donate it there. She just had a baby girl in April, and needs it easy to care for, she is breast feeding and it gets in the way.

Shhhhhhhh there's a spy in the house of women. He just wrote about my old silver mare comment!!!

Yeah Ive heard about Locks of Love. That's a good organization. They use the hair to make wigs for cancer patients and stuff. I also heard that unscrupulous peolpe will try to sneak up and cut your hair to sell it! What the f**k??

Oh dear. You dont believe that do you? However I do think that if someone feels strongly that it's possible, if they know a bad person got hold of their hair, it will cause them trouble psychologically because they will worry about it constantly so it does work in a way. I'm just dubious about the supernatural angle.

Ive got one of those huge flat paddle brushes and I always pull the hairs out after I finish brushing and put them in the toilet. It's a nice one that doesn't snag at all. My hair is kind of oily anyway so it wont tangle that much. I'd have to be in a wind tunnel for a couple hours or something.

Yes the more hair you have, the more you can lose. Back when I used to backcomb just to get some height at the crown, I would get a lot of fall out in the shower. Backcombing is bad. You want to minimize that as much as possible. That look is sort of out now anyway. The taco betty do.

Funny you should mention Betty!! lol

My daughters call the old ladies my age, and we all hang out , (even the young ones)either the Bettys, or the younger generation, Bettys in training. The little girls are Jr. Bettys in wating!!

I just wash and brush.

Do a twist thingy on the sides and barret each side. Or the french braid on either side for the Heidi look, which is good for riding motorcycle. I also wrap braids in leather straps to protect them .

When you get your hair trimmed,or your cleaning out your brush.Save it for some one who gardens.Put it on the edge of your gardens. Will keep the 4 legged out 100%.Been doing this for years. My grand mother taught me this and she learned from her mother. My Grand would of been 115 this year.

PS hmm wonder if SA knew her, only joking gals..

It might work because of the human smell. It doesn't take much to mark a territory. I gather up watch dog hair and scatter it everywhere and it keeps foxes away. Kind of the same idea but just a lot more of it.

I know this is going to sound funny.I forgot to add my grandmother wore nylon knee highs, when they had a bad run, that's, what she would put the hair in,and staked them down. You don't need the nylons full.Sure it looks funny, but never lost veggies or berries.

Ok just a leg up on gardening hits, lol
