The primary elections are in a couple weeks with early voting under way now. In news stories and commercials, the Republicans and their PACS claim the federal government is too big and powerful. They don't like ObamaCare, EPA rules that affect big business and corporations, and other federal rules.
Demos says some of the negative commercials and Republican language on state's rights sound like racists comments and concerns of the Klan in the 1950s. Demos point to programs that people take for granted now: Medicare, Medicaid, HUD, welfare, Social Security, SSI, EPA rules, voting rights, ADA, equal opportunity laws, etc.
Moderates like myself say we need these programs, that Americans are too use to them now to put up with suddenly doing away with them, etc. However, I think many moderates won't object to splitting up the D.C. decision-making process and headquarters to have more federal offices at the state-level with regional-federal Headquarters being involved in policy-decision making that involves each state's governor's offices, the federal US senators and representatives, and each state's Legislative Council.
Basically, we say some of the decision-making by federal brass should reflect the wishes of local officials and should be cleared by the majority of the US Senators and Representatives from the US House.
Moderates say people who should enjoy the same rights and laws no matter what state they move too, such as in the military, to go to college, or to relocate for a job. Moderates also say checks-and-balances require two level of enforcement of society's rules and laws, that the U.S. has too much of a history of people in charge failing to enforce laws or bending rules to benefit powerful corporations.
So, people, what do you think? Does DC have too much power? Just about right but changes in the system needed? Or the system is OK?
