Pit bulls are great dogs as long as their raised with kids. Dog fighters gave them a bad name. Any dog can be dangerous.

yay to pits,my opinion like alot of other breed of dogs there are good ones and bad ones.Training a pit in my experience is trial and error depends on the nature and personality of the dog himself but overall is easy to train, age of the dog when u get them i think also can have a big factor, due to not knowing what the dog has been threw and what he is use to.

Personally, I have seen some of the sweetest pit bulls. Nay from me because they are banned from many apartments and areas. We have a housing shortage and I don't want to end up homeless because I have a dog breed deemed dangerous.

What upsets me is they ship rescue pit bulls up here and they end up with young people who cannot control the dogs. I have had many approach me, dragging their owner, with hackles up and growing.

Any animal you own,if you treat it right
it will behave.A Pit Bull is no different.
Treat it like Crap,he/she'll act in that matter.

Well know. My neighbor has a pitbull and a beagle mix. I noticed the pitbull is now fighting the beagle. I have the beagle with me and the pitbull chases the beagle under my front porch. This is the second dog that the pitbull has attacked. Suppose to be over food but i don't think so. The beagle eats with my cats and has been around one of my dogs and Morgan was eating. No fights from either dogs or cats.

Sounds like the owner is not in charge. Thats where the problems start. I see people every day walking their dogs and the pitbulls are no different. They do take a responsible master but are great dogs.

Agreed! No matter the breed of dog, their owner needs to be responsible. I've seen small dogs boss and control their masters, so it's not a breed issue, it's an owner issue.

BTW- the Husky in my profile pic was a pup in the picture. I was sitting on the step, and he was standing on the porch behind me, and trying to jump over my shoulder to get loose. He didn't get his way.
He is now 19 months old (so still a pup) and pretty mannerly, he even raises his feet for me to wipe his paws before he comes back inside the house (in fact almost all of my dogs do this).

This pitbull attack the Beagle on my front porch last Monday night. This happened around 10:30 pm or maybe a little earlier. The neighbor's saw this happen but the owner didn't. I am now in fear that the pitbull will attack the Beagle again. She also growled at a neighbor man as he was out walking. I will have the pitbull owner arrested. .

It is a dog that was bred for fighting.

They should be phased out.

Talk to people who have been attacked by these dogs.

It is not an ordinary dog bite.

Far worse than even a shepard or rott bite.

It is a bone crunching wont let go permanantly damaging death grip of a bite.

You have no choice.

Have the dog put down before it gets a hold of a little kid.

It's not her dog, therefore not her decision. It is her right to call animal control, and let them address the situation.

Pitbulls are not bad dogs when bred, raised and treated right.

This pitbull isn't mine. However, she has bitten two men and one was a deputy sheriff. So i was told. And chases cars and people on bikes. The dog warden told me that this dog is very friendly and nothing to worry about. This dog seems to dislike men.

Pitbull's were bread as a dog to babysit and guard the home back in the day.

People exploited the dog and it's breeding for their purpose. Profits from fighting them.

All dogs bite. It's their only defense. Some do have a stronger bite just like people are stronger then others.

Dogs are not born as attack dogs they are trained that way.

Dog attacks come from any breed. i was mauled by a st bernard and almost died. i was hospitalized and had surgery.

I think pit Bulls are prone to attack but also a lot depends on how the owner raises the dog. If he trains him thoroughly and keeps him exposed to other people from a puppy and on the dog will most likely do well. From my own experience dogs that are not really exposed to people outside the family are the ones most vicious and territorial. Dogs need to be socialized with people from day 1 and trained.

I admit most times i seen a pit bull they were vicious but I met some that were very friendly

My neighbor's pitbulls killed a cat today. Anothern neighbor was feeding her cats and saw this happen. The Dog Warden and Sheriff's Office was called immediately. Nothing was done except the owner was cited for the dogs running free and cited for no dog license. Shepdog warden] told me, personally, the dogs were going to be taken by choice. Well well well the dogs never went anywhere. Sad sad dtory isn't it. The dogs are running free and so is the owner. But the cat lost his life for no reason what so ever.

I really feel like the pits have gotten a bad rap....they aren't trained properly and then are prone to attack other animals and/or human animals.

ANY untrained animal can be dangerous...

So true Ninja, my only pit was the sweetest dog I ever had both to people and my cat, but would catch wild hogs and destroy coons, possum, skunks and any feral cat that came in my yard,he was smart enough to know what his "job" was.

My grandson has a Pit/Cur.

It's just a pup but it is so tolerant of children.
