The worst vehicle I have ever owned was a 1972 Ford Maverick. When I bought it, it had a broken 3 on the tree shifter. I converted it to a floor shift, only to find out the synkronizers in the transmission were gone. I could not down shift the thing without grinding the gears. Upshifting was no problem.
It burned oil so bad, it would foul out at least 2 sparkplugs in 5-10 miles. So I got the hottest plugs I could find for it, and put 90W gear lube in it instead of oil. That fixed the spark plug foul out issue, but it sure stunk as the gear lube got burnt.
Then of course, the rust factors. I got a flat on the left front tire. I slid my floor jack under the sub frame rail. As I jacked it up, the rail gave way. My jack went up through the floorboard. I had to borrow another jack from my neighbor, put that jack under the control arm, get the car up to change out my flat. Then I hammered my original jack back down to get it free. A real gem of a car.
I went over a railroad crossing, only to have the body flex break my exhaust system in 1/2. If that wasn't bad enough, the rear subframe rails split down the middle after installing rear spring shackle extenders to fix my shagging rear leaf springs.
The people who bad mouthed the Pinto, never owned a Maverick.

that brings back some crappy memories on my parents maverick they bought in the late 70's.
I remember they ended up selling it for $100.00.
my father used to swear at that car all the time.

most unreliable . have to be a tie with two cars. a l969 volwagon squarback . and a l978 or so chrler lebaron with the lean burn system . dropping headliner. lousy wiring that would burn up turn signal switches. lean burn computer messed up tried converting to regular ignit ion stilll a dog .
most reliable 69 dodge cornet with 318 engine. was great car. right now 2000 corolla is very reliable even a l82 thousand . vvt efi engine seems pretty solid so far. all t ime most reliable family car was 50 desto with fluid drive that was my granddads. 66 dodge dart with slant six was also reliable as all get out. well guess there were more than one or two either way ..

Hmmm.
I guess that would be a 69 Dodge 1/2 ton pickup. The truck/motor (318) itself was pretty bulletproof despite having over 225K on it. But a lifetime of salt air in the Fla Keys had eaten the electrical system to the point where it caught itself on fire every couple weeks.
Some folks carry spare oil/gas.....I carried a few gallon jugs of water & fire extinguisher.

1958 Simca back in the early sixties. This thing had to be the worst POS ever made. To make sure nobody else had to put up with this pile of crap I set it on fire and let it burn to the ground then had a junk yard haul it off never to be seem again.

Worst I've seen personally was my roommate's (back in the 80s) Renault Fuego. Brand new, still w/ the new car smell...it rarely made it out of the university parking lot.
Heck, with a whopping 81 HP, it barely COULD make it out....even if it managed to stay running for more than a day or two. Needless to say, there wasn't dealership within 300 miles.

I never really had a unreliable vehicle to be honest, then again I don't keep a car longer than 3-4 years..Never had an American vehicle or European cause I tend to work on them the most, so I guess I already know better on what not to get

Worst car: 1971 Simca ( french dodge )
Best car:1971 Toyota Corona
Trucks: The bigger the better, or the way International built pickups.
There's a1931 Binder pickup on craigslist with the original 2-speed rearend still in it, the guy put a 4 cylinder perkins diesel in it, $8500 is a smokin deal for a truck that will be worth that or more forever.
16 years from next month it will be 100 years old, that's dependable in my book!

The most unreliable was a brand new truck a 1990 chevy Z71 step side. I had to have psgr window repaired, brake lights fixed and tranny went out with 18,000 highway miles. Chevy like a rock on the side of the road. Quickly got rid of it thank god Chevy never again.

My most reliable was also most embarrassing to drive. A shitty harvest gold '72 Plymouth Valiant with 3 on the tree. That damn slant-6 just would not die. It always ran and drove fine, but not fast or pretty.

Doubt many would believe this but the most reliable vehicle I've owned was a 1994 Chevy cavalier. I bought it in 2000 with 34k cheap and drove it till it had 84k then sold it and the only thing I put in it was gas and a battery. Then my buddies daughter drove it another 80k and wrecked it she was a nurse dozzed off and it was running perfectly up until that point. Say what you want about those little shit boxes there are tones still on the road today they are cheap to fix reliable and dependable.

The worst rental I ever had was a 2008 Dodge Avenger with only 800 miles on it. What a pile of garbage that vehicle was. Underpowered, slow, noisy, rattled, poor fuel economy, cramped, you name it.
Later on when I got home, I did a Wikipedia search on it. Almost every complaint I had on it, was repeated word for word.

I bought a new Ford Tempo when they first came out. Maybe some cars were just produced in order to show how bad some cars could be. Talk about rattle, clatter, driver's door lock froze and the door couldn't be opened. I am talking about a new showroom car...not a used vehicle. It went directly back to the dealership and then I began leasing for a while because I wanted to experience some of the models I liked before I purchased again.

Yea it was a rough car...but I made lots of money as a mechanic.Sadly it's replacement,Contour, was even worse.A Tempo could be fixed not a Contour.

they are pretty awesome to drive,, handle like a Mofo,
great thing about it is they are popular with the homosexuals so they usually haven't been abused and wore out like most sporty fun cars driven by real men

The last year and a half, ive been so disappointed.
I was happy to cosign for the mom, after we looked at some vehicles she would be interested in.
im not a fan of minivans or anything along those lines at all.
I do think the Chevy HHR's are sharp little vehicles, with the loaded package.
they no longer make them,ofcourse.
I always thought a beefier motor would of been in the making, but it wasn't.
the 4 yrs shes owned it,its been a great vehicle.
but then....over the last year and a half, theres been about 4 recalls on this thing, and I can see why they're not making them anymore.

Most reliable has been Dad's old Jeep. I upgraded the carb & ignition for him way back when and since then all it's needed was a radiator that some dumb Florida boy (me) blew up for not having enough anti-freeze in the mix when I moved to NC. Did front brake pads once, also.
Never once has if broken down despite pulling boats & such over 500 miles at a time.
I beat it up pretty badly off road, too.
The big 6 is bullet proof.

Reliability would be tough, between a 93 escort wagon with 1.9 5speed and a 74 torino with a 302 and an 81 olds cutlass with a 3.8.
Ran all 3 super hard many times, and all 3 were fun.
Escort wagons were granny cars with the automatic that could be found everywhere, but the little 5speed was rare and fun and super cheap on gas.
